Modern wave power generation plants are capable to work in variable speed operations. These wave power generation plants are provided with adjustable speed generators, like the double feed induction generator. One of the main advantage of adjustable speed generators is that they improve the system efficiency compared to fixed speed generators, because turbine speed can be adjusted as a function of the flow coefficient to maximize the output power. However these systems requires a suitable speed controller in order to track the optimal turbine reference speed. In this work, a sliding mode control for variable speed wave power generation plants is proposed. The proposed sliding-mode control law incorporates an adaptive switching gain, which avoids having to calculate an upper limit of the system uncertainties that is necessary in the traditional sliding-mode control laws. The stability analysis of the proposed controller is provided under disturbances and parameter uncertainties by using the Lyapunov stability theory. Finally simulated results show, on the one hand that the proposed controller provides high-performance dynamic characteristics, and on the other hand that this scheme is robust with respect to the uncertainties that usually appear in the real systems.

The current situation of environmental resources requires their efficient usage through efficient process control. But, process control can not be achieved without an essential component: the communication between all devices, such as sensors, controllers, actuators, programming stations etc. The aim is to achieve the irrigation process of plants in greenhouse conditions. Therefore, it is submitted a comprehensive application that proposes to be a distributed control system including data acquisition and processing, both local and remote monitoring of the process parameters. The distributed system is based on modern equipment: Siemens Simatic PLCs and HMI, Memsic e̅Ko Pro wireless sensors network, level sensors for irrigation tanks and actuators such as on/off valves and pumps. In terms of communication between equipments, an industrial bus and protocols were used - Profinet and wireless communication. The software part is provided by TIA Portal with STEP 7 and WinCC flexible RT and LOGO! Soft Comfort for programming the automation devices. ModbusTCP was used to develop the communication protocol between central devices.

This document describes and demonstrates the features of a new innovative hydraulic Power take-Off(PTO)to be used for Wave Energy *** device is able to transform low frequency oscillating movement into a continuous high frequency angular speed,absorbing high fluctuated torque at the input shaft,which can reach up to ***,the major breakthrough of this device is that it can control the braking torque through the modification of some geometrical parameters,L and R,and through the activation of more than one hydraulic cylinder together with the *** output shaft of the PTO is able to rotate at different continuous rated speed through the actuation on a specific control valve at the inlet of the hydraulic *** to check the behavior of the PTO related to the smoothening of the power output and concerning the time needed to increase the high pressure and the time available after the accumulation of some quantity of energy in different initial conditions are presented.

This paper presents the development of quadriceps muscle model based on Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES). Artificial Neural Network (ANN) were used to study the impact of stimulation frequency, pulse width and pulse duration towards the output torque produce by paraplegic.722 data are used by randomly divide 70% for training, 15% for validation and another 15% is for testing process. Two types of training approaches which is Levenberg Marquardt Back propagation (LM) and Resilient Back propagation (RP) are used in developing of quadriceps muscle model. The model developed are validate with the clinical data to see the accuracy of the torque output predicted with the identified parameter. From the study, LM is found to be the most accurate with accuracy up to 99.98% The identified parameter used from model developed in this study will be used to control various strategies on the Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) system.

It has been recently suggested that concrete processes occurring on the Sun (e.g. sunspots) significantly affect the tropical cyclogenesis. Despite this finding the current understanding of the processes that generate tropical cyclones is still limited. We herewith present a new complex monitoring tool for the collection and storage of relevant environmental information to solve the problem of the tropical cyclone prediction. More specifically, a three-level methodology for making decisions on the dynamical evolution of the ocean-atmosphere system is suggested. This methodology is based on a recently proposed environmental instability indicator and the use of sequential analysis process within which a stage of training is established, when all boundaries are located. Effectiveness of this methodology is assessed by examination of several examples of tropical hurricanes. More specifically, it is demonstrated how this tool can be employed to monitor the tropical hurricanes, like Katrina (2005), Irene (2011) and Isaac (2012).

With a fast growing of wind power installed capacity, an efficient monitoring system for wind energy conversion system (WEC) is required to ensure operational reliability, high availability of energy production and at the same time reduce operating and maintenance costs. In this paper, an efficient, scaleable data-driven on-line WEC monitoring method is introduced, which consists of three parts: 1) off-line training process 2) on-line monitoring phase 3) on-line diagnosis phase. The performance and effectiveness of this method for the detection of process abnormalities are demonstrated using the data obtained from different wind turbines in a wind farm.

The constant increase of life expectancy in the last decades is constantly prompting for new and better solutions to support the overstressed medical system. Solutions for tele monitoring of elder patients in their own homes are seen as one of the key solutions in reducing the financial and human resources demand on a medical system that needs to address a constantly growing number of elder patients with fewer resources. This paper presents an efficient location tracking system design for monitoring elder patients in home environments. This system is designed to be integrated in complex context aware systems, which can provide valuable information and alerts to responsible care takers.

The proposed robust control law is based on a sliding mode control theory, that presents a good performance under system uncertainties. The proposed sliding-mode control law incorporates an adaptive switching gain, which avoids having to calculate an upper limit of the system uncertainties that is necessary in the traditional sliding-mode control laws. The stability analysis of the proposed controller under disturbances and parameter uncertainties is provided using the Lyapunov stability theory. Finally simulated results show, on the one hand that the proposed controller provides high-performance dynamic characteristics, and on the other hand that this scheme is robust with respect to plant parameter variations and external disturbances.
