This work deals with the main control problems found in solar power systems and the solutions proposed in literature. The paper first describes the main solar power technologies, its development status and then describes the main challenges encountered when controlling solar power systems. While in other power generating processes, the main source of energy can be manipulated, in solar energy systems, the main source of power which is solar radiation cannot be manipulated and furthermore it changes in a seasonal and on a daily base acting as a disturbance when considering it from a control point of view. Solar plants have all the characteristics needed for using industrial electronics and advanced control strategies able to cope with changing dynamics, nonlinearities and uncertainties.

In this paper we propose a supervised multi-agent control strategy for leather manufacturing processes. In a tannery numerous processes are performed and in order to control them we use an agent for each process. Due to the control from distance, the systems are affected by varying communication delays which can affect the quality of the final product. The supervisor is used to adjust, by using the fuzzy logic, the command provided by each agent. Simulation results are presented. The results show performance improvement when our control strategy is used.

Long term prediction such as multi-step time series prediction is a challenging prognostics problem. This paper proposes an improved AR time series model called ND-AR model (Nonlinear Degradation AutoRegression) for Remaining Useful Life (RUL) estimation of lithium-ion batteries. The nonlinear degradation feature of the lithiumion battery capacity degradation is analyzed and then the non-linear accelerated degradation factor is extracted to improve the linear AR model. In this model, the nonlinear degradation factor can be obtained with curve fitting, and then the ND-AR model can be applied as an adaptive datadriven prognostics method to monitor degradation time series data. Experimental results with CALCE battery data set show that the proposed nonlinear degradation AR model can realize satisfied prognostics for various lithium-ion batteries with low computing complexity.

The new modular walking robots MERO by reconfiguring their architecture are built to displace the heavy loads on the unaligned terrain. The main characteristic of the modular walking robots is that they are able to move away on unarranged, horizontal and rough terrain The modular walking system protects much better the environment when its contact with the soil is discrete, a fact that limits appreciately the area that is crushed. The new modular walking robots may have a lower or higher autonomy degree. This autonomy has in view the power source's supply capability but also orientation and perception capabilities as regards the terrain configuration the robot is running upon and its decision making and the motion manner towards a target. Architecture of the reference structure of the walking robot has three two-legged modules. Every leg has three degrees of freedom (RRP), a slip sensor and tactile sensor to measure the contact which consists of lower and upper levels. The body of the MERO (MEchanism RObot) walking robot carries a gyroscopic bearing sensor to measure the pitch and roll angles of the platform. The legs are powered by hydraulic drives and are equipped with transducers and sensors. They are used to control the walking robot in the adaptability to a natural ground.
