Two new architectures of the third-order low-pass filters (LPF) based on differential (Op-Amp) and differential difference amplifiers (DDA) with a paraphase output are compared. This architectures designed for practical use as anti-aliasing filters in analog-to-digital converters of sensor signals of various physical quantities. The basic equations of the developed LPF modifications that make possible to perform their parametric synthesis are given. The computer simulation results are presented, which show that the LPFs under consideration provide the guaranteed frequency response (FR) attenuation outside the bandwidth being implemented on Op-Amps by Analog Device (AD8132) and Texas Instruments (THS4131). © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this work, discrete-time extremum seeking algorithms for unconstrained optimization problems are developed. A general class of non-commutative maps and one- and two point function evaluation polices are presented to approximate a gradient-descent algorithm, suitable for extremum seeking problems. Moreover, adaptive step size rules are discussed to achieve faster convergence and vanishing steady state oscillations.

In this paper, the authors studied the implementation issues of an explicit model predictive controller on a programmable electronic device. For the implementation of this controller is considered the programmable controller architecture, hardware and software level, so the performance is optimized ensuring the feasibility of functioning. The main outcome is a series of recommendations to help implement the explicit MPC, which are applied to design the MPC of a DC-DC converter.

In this paper, subspace-based algorithms for the simultaneous identification of the linear and nonlinear parts of multivariable Hammerstein and Wiener models are presented. The proposed algorithms consist basically of two steps. The first one is a standard (linear) subspace algorithm applied to an equivalent linear system whose inputs (respectively outputs) are filtered (by the nonlinear functions describing the static nonlinearities) versions of the original inputs (respectively outputs). The second step consists in a 2-norm minimization problem which is solved via a Singular Value Decomposition.

The problem of model-based condition monitoring of aero gas turbine engines is considered. Genetic algorithms are applied for the dynamic modelling of aero engines by estimating parameters of the linear reduced-order model. The use of genetic algorithms affords flexibility in the choice of performance metrics. Real engine data is used to investigate the performance genetic algorithms and this approach is compared with traditional modelling techniques used in industry.

This paper proposes the problem of how to maximize the defensive effect by setting up defensive facilities given the path planning method of the enemy's UAV, and made validations and analysis on the commonly used RRT path planning algorithm. From the simulation experiments, some factors that affect the results of the path planning are summarized. We measure the defensive effect by defining the metric E, and discuss the factors that may affect the metric. Finally, by summarizing the impacts of the distribution of defensive facilities on the path planning results under the RRT algorithm, two kinds of trapping schemes for RRT algorithms are proposed, and the experiments also show the effectiveness of these schemes.

Physics-informed neural networks for parameter learning of wildfire spreading

Wildland fires pose a terrifying natural hazard, underscoring the urgent need to develop datadriven and physics-informed digital twins for wildfire prevention, monitoring, intervention, and response. In this direction of research, this work introduces a physics-informed neural network (PiNN) designed to learn the unknown parameters of an interpretable wildfire spreading model. The considered modeling approach integrates fundamental physical laws articulated by key model parameters essential for capturing the complex behavior of wildfires. The proposed machine learning framework leverages the theory of artificial neural networks with the physical constraints governing wildfire dynamics, including the first principles of mass and energy conservation. Training of the PiNN for physics-informed parameter identification is realized using synthetic data on the spatiotemporal evolution of one- and two-dimensional firefronts, derived from a high-fidelity simulator, as well as empirical data (ground surface thermal images) from the Troy Fire that occurred on June 19, 2002, in California. The parameter learning results demonstrate the predictive ability of the proposed PiNN in uncovering the unknown coefficients of the wildfire model in one- and two-dimensional fire spreading scenarios as well as the Troy Fire. Additionally, this methodology exhibits robustness by identifying the same parameters even in the presence of noisy data. By integrating this PiNN approach into a comprehensive framework, the envisioned physics-informed digital twin will enhance intelligent wildfire management and risk assessment, providing a powerful tool for proactive and reactive strategies. In this paper, a distributed model predictive control algorithm (DMPC) based on Nash optimality is proposed for automated vehicle platoon control. The optimization decision of vehicle platoon is decomposed into the decentralized optimization of single vehicles, in which the Nash optimality algorithm is adopted to solve the decentralized optimization problem. Thus, each vehicle can reach the local optimal target and the whole team can reach its Nash equilibrium. The methodology employs neighborhood information of the entire platoon through on-board sensors and V2V communication to achieve coordination of the entire platoon. The ability of the methods in terms of robustness to disturbances and cyber-physical interaction is demonstrated with simulation case studies.

The Common Spatial Patterns (CSP) algorithm is useful for calculating spatial filters for detecting event-related desynchronization (ERD) for use in ERD-based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). However, basic CSP is a supervised algorithm suited only to two-class discrimination; it is unable to solve multiclass discrimination problems. This paper proposes a new method named the binary common spatial patterns (BCSP) algorithm to extend the basic CSP method to multi-class recognition. Our method arranges the spatial filters and Fisher classifiers in the form of a binary tree whereby N - 1 spatial filters and N - 1 Fisher classifiers are calculated for N class recognition. This is fewer than must be calculated in other methods (e.g. one-versus-rest, OVR). This makes the overall classification procedure less redundant. Simulation results show that BCSP has better performance than the OVR scheme and outperforms the three best teams in the 2008 BCI-competition.

Work-related upper extremity disorders as epycondylitis and tendonitis are closely related to localized muscle fatigue of extensor forearm muscles. The aim of this work is to evaluate levels of activity, fatigue and interactions between the main extensor muscles of the wrist. Surface EMG signals were acquired from extensor carpi radialis (ECR), extensor digitorum comunis (EDC) and extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) muscles during isometric contractions using linear electrode array technique. Parameters such as muscle fiber conduction velocity (CV), EMG average rectified value (ARV) and frequency parameters were estimated to study muscle activity during selective contractions, during a non specific task at different percentage of the maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) level and during a fatiguing exercise at 50% MVC. Results show that it is possible to enhance significantly ECR and ECU muscle ARV during their selective activation. Moreover, in the non selective task, ECU muscle ARV significantly decreases with respect to the other muscles with the increase of the MVC level. The activity of ECR muscle in a non specific task is predominant with respect to the other muscles at 80% MVC. EMG spectral parameters and CV show fatigue in all muscles during a sustained contraction at 50% MVC
