This paper deals with the problem of faulty and perturbed class of nonlinear systems. The universal approximator system is used to cope with the nonlinearities and the actuator faults. Two controllers are proposed, the first is an adaptive controller and the second is a robust controller. The proposed scheme allows to deal with the external disturbances theoretically instead of approximation. The stability is proved using Lyapunov theory. Simulation example on an inverted pendulums is carried out to show the prompt and the accuracy of the proposed strategy. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In this paper we study an ODE model on the microRNA-mRNA dynamics. Actual industrial processes and production lines contain two or more control loops. One of the main challenges consists in ratio control in case one or more included parameters / elements fails or in disturbances presence. The paper presents solutions of real time balance for two or more parallel control structures and maintaining the ratio between controlled parameters. Applicability is proved on a real time hardware and software control structure of three ratios, a situation encountered to the modern transportation, chemical and other real processes.

MISROBÆRTA: TRANSFORMERS VERSUS MISINFORMATION

Misinformation is considered a threat to our democratic values and principles. The spread of such content on social media polarizes society and undermines public discourse by distorting public perceptions and generating social unrest while lacking the rigor of traditional journalism. Transformers and transfer learning proved to be state-of-the-art methods for multiple wellknown natural language processing tasks. In this paper, we propose MisRoBÆRTa, a novel transformer-based deep neural ensemble architecture for misinformation detection. MisRoBÆRTa takes advantage of two state-of-the art transformers, i.e., BART and RoBERTa, to improve the performance of discriminating between real news and different types of fake news. We also benchmarked and evaluated the performances of multiple transformers on the task of misinformation detection. For training and testing, we used a large real-world news articles dataset (i.e., 100,000 records) labeled with 10 classes, thus addressing two shortcomings in the current research: (1) increasing the size of the dataset from small to large, and (2) moving the focus of fake news detection from binary classification to multi-class classification. For this dataset, we manually verified the content of the news articles to ensure that they were correctly labeled. The experimental results show that the accuracy of transformers on the misinformation detection problem was significantly influenced by the method employed to learn the context, dataset size, and vocabulary dimension. We observe empirically that the best accuracy performance among the classification models that use only one transformer is obtained by BART, while DistilRoBERTa obtains the best accuracy in the least amount of time required for fine-tuning and training. However, the proposed MisRoBÆRTa outperforms the other transformer models in the task of misinformation detection. SIMPLEX: A LEXICAL TEXT SIMPLIFICATION ARCHITECTURE

Text simplification (TS) is the process of generating easy-to-understand sentences from a given sentence or piece of text. The aim of TS is to reduce both the lexical (which refers to vocabulary complexity and meaning) and syntactic (which refers to the sentence structure) complexity of a given text or sentence without the loss of meaning or nuance. In this paper, we present SIMPLEX, a novel simplification architecture for generating simplified English sentences. To generate a simplified sentence, the proposed architecture uses either word embeddings (i.e., Word2Vec) and perplexity, or sentence transformers (i.e., BERT, RoBERTa, and GPT2) and cosine similarity. The solution is incorporated into a user-friendly and simple-to-use software. We evaluate our system using two metrics, i.e., SARI, and Perplexity Decrease. Experimentally, we observe that the transformer models outperform the other models in terms of the SARI score. However, in terms of Perplexity, the Word-Embeddings-based models achieve the biggest decrease. Thus, the main contributions of this paper are: (1) We propose a new Word Embedding and Transformer based algorithm for text simplification;(2) We design SIMPLEX - a modular novel text simplification system - that can provide a baseline for further research;and (3) We perform an in-depth analysis of our solution and compare our results with two state-of-the-art models, i.e., LightLS [19] and NTS-w2v [44]. A Proportional-Integral Model for Fractional Voltage Tripping of Distributed Energy Resources

In regions with high shares of distributed energy resources (DERs), massive disconnection of small-scale DERs in low-voltage distribution grids during disturbances poses a serious threat to power system security. However, modeling this effect in a computationally efficient way remains challenging. This paper proposes a novel proportional-integral aggregate model for predicting the fraction of tripped DERs based on the voltage at the substation connection point. The model effectively captures the cumulative behavior of the system, is simple to implement, and includes seven parameters for undervoltage tripping and seven for overvoltage tripping behavior, each with a distinct physical meaning. We further propose an optimization-based approach to tune the model parameters. Simulation results show significantly more accurate predictions compared to the DER_A model—a standard dynamic model for aggregate DER behavior—even when the latter is optimized, with only a minor increase in model complexity. The paper describes the energy consumption from the battery based on the current measurements for various cases, i.e., speed (PWL adjustment) and loads. The main purpose of the research is to have additional and reliable information about power consumption and battery life estimation for autonomous guided vehicles (AGV). The authors propose a two-step algorithm. In the first step, a linear classifier was proposed. Then, the KNN classifier was tested; however, it did not give satisfactory results, so it was finally decided to use the random forest to estimate the load and PWL. The time domain current measurement is evaluated, and the beforementioned algorithms process the selected statistical measures. It has been proven that a two-step algorithm allows for achieving high accuracy. Based on the current observation, the paper is a good starting point for further investigation of the AGV because it is usually implemented in the AGV – so it does not require additional hardware. Moreover, it can lead to better energy management and increase battery lifetime.

The skin lesion can be thought of as a biological system, so the morpho-granulometry of significant color clusters found in skin lesions is one of the elements that reproduce in a natural way the structure of the lesion, this novelty is highlighted in this study. Important features of skin lesions can be modulated by fusing neural networks (NN) and machine learning (ML). By choosing the nevus and melanoma classes, the primary goal was accomplished, and three databases were used to test the methodology. The characteristics based on morpho-granulometry allowed for the identification of microstructure within the images, which can be very helpful in characterizing the biological system. Based on random forest (RF) and extreme gradient boosting (XGboost) classifiers, this work aimed to improve the classification performance of important feature selection. The selected features from three free image databases with three NNs were classified. In a binary classification of nevus vs. melanoma, the results showed that the pattern recognition neural network (PRNN), according to the PH2 database, provided an accuracy of 0.923 and an F1-score of 0.876. The classification is interpretable if it is not validated. In our study, the best results were verified with a logistic regression (LR) classifier.

In this paper, multi-objective optimization is used to solve the signal synchronization problem in arterial traffic roads, where a traffic dispersion module is introduced to further expand the solution space. By incorporating the models of delay time, queue length and stop times into the optimization, a first model called M1 is established. In the second model M2, the free flow speed assumption is replaced by a traffic dispersion module for better estimating the link travel time. A simulation study is then carried out on an arterial road, and the results show that the proposed strategy improves the performance of the traffic system compared to the current timing scheme and M2 has the best performance among all solutions in this paper, and the delay is reduced for about 24%. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In recent years, online social networks and online news venues have become some of the main news and event-related information spreading mediums. Although using these mediums has facilitated the speed of accessing information, it also created a new phenomenon used for propaganda and disinformation: fake news. As fake news has detrimental consequences to society, new technologies need to be developed in order to stop their harmful effects. In this paper, we propose two Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) architectures with sentence transformers to solve two tasks: (1) a multi-class mono-lingual fake news detection task (i.e., mono-lingual task);and (2) a multi-class cross-lingual fake news detection task (i.e., cross-lingual task). For the mono-lingual task, we train and test a BiLSTM with BART sentence transformers model on an English dataset and obtain an accuracy of ∼ 0.53 and an F1-Score of ∼ 0.32. For the cross-lingual task, we train a BiLSTM with XLM sentence transformers model on an English dataset and test the model using transfer learning on a German dataset. For this task, we obtain an accuracy of ∼ 0.28 and an F1-Score of ∼ 0.19. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.
