In today’s digital age, fake news has become a major problem that has serious consequences, ranging from social unrest to political upheaval. To address this issue, new methods for detecting and mitigating fake news are required. In this work, we propose to incorporate contextual and network-aware features into the detection process. This involves analyzing not only the content of a news article but also the context in which it was shared and the network of users who shared it, i.e., the information diffusion. Thus, we propose GETAE, Graph Information Enhanced Deep Neural Network Ensemble ArchitecturE for Fake News Detection, a novel ensemble architecture that uses textual content together with the social interactions to improve fake news detection. GETAE contains two Branches: the Text Branch and the Propagation Branch. The Text Branch uses Word and Transformer Embeddings and a Deep Neural Network based on feed-forward and bidirectional Recurrent Neural Networks ([Bi]RNN) for learning novel contextual features and creating a novel Text Content Embedding. The Propagation Branch considers the information propagation within the graph network and proposes a Deep Learning architecture that employs Node Embeddings to create novel Propagation Embedding. GETAE Ensemble combines the two novel embeddings, i.e., Text Content Embedding and Propagation Embedding, to create a novel Propagation-Enhanced Content Embedding which is afterward used for classification. The experimental results obtained on two real-world publicly available datasets, i.e., Twitter15 and Twitter16, prove that using this approach improves fake news detection and outperforms state-of-the-art models. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Medical procedures, in particular those invasive, generate significant ethical, legal, and social concerns, including the issues of humanity and person-hood, stigma, autonomy, privacy and security, research ethics, safety, moral and legal responsibility, fair access, and justice. It was pointed out that future research should focus on developing practical solutions to the ethical challenges of medical experimental procedures with human participants, facilitated by the collection of empirical data on the perspectives shared by the general public, researchers and of course study participants. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper successfully developed and studied a phase shift control system for a two-rotor vibration mechatronic setup, aiming to maintain the desired revolving speed of the rotors. The sliding mode motion was achieved by utilizing a relay controller in the phase loop, while PI controllers were employed in the velocity control loops. Through numerical study and simulations using the parameters of the Mechatronic Vibration Setup SV-2M, the effectiveness of the proposed velocity and phase shift control laws was demonstrated. The possibility of sliding mode occurrence in the phase shift loop was examined through analytical and numerical analysis, confirming its presence. The relationship between the relative degree of the transfer function of the plant and the possibility of the occurrence of a sliding mode is analyzed based on the locus of a perturbed relay system approach. Simulation results indicated that sliding mode motion appeared after a finite transient time and showcased the dynamical properties of the closed-loop system. In conclusion, the findings of this study validate the efficacy of the phase shift control system in achieving the desired rotor speed and demonstrate the feasibility of implementing sliding mode motion in the mechatronic setup. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Deficit of attention, anxiety, sleep disorders are some of the problems which affect many persons. As these issues can evolve into severe conditions, more factors should be taken into consideration. The paper proposes a conception which aims to help students to enhance their brain performance. An electrocephalogram headset is used to trigger the brainwaves, along with a web application which manages the input data which comes from the headset and from the user. Factors like current activity, mood, focus, stress, relaxation, engagement, excitement and interest are provided in numerical format through the use of the headset. The users offer information about their activities related to relaxation, listening to music, watching a movie, and studying. Based on the analysis, it was found that the users consider the application easy to use. As the users are more equilibrated emotionally, their results are improved. This allowed the persons to be more confident on themselves. In the case of students, the neurofeedback can be studied for the better sport and artistic performances, including the case of the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Aptitudes for a subject can be determined based on the relevant generated brainwaves. The learning environment is an important factor during the analysis of the results. Teachers, professors, students and parents can collaborate and, based on the gathered data, new teaching methods can be adopted in the classroom and at home. The proposed solution can guide the students while studying, as well as the persons who wish to be more productive while solving their tasks. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Paths planning of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)in a dynamic environment is considered a challenging task in autonomous flight control *** this work,an efficient method based on a Multi-Objective MultiVerse Optimization(MOMVO)algorithm is proposed and successfully applied to solve the path planning problem of quadrotors with moving *** a path planning task is formulated as a multicriteria optimization problem under operational *** proposed MOMVO-based planning approach aims to lead the drone to traverse the shortest path from the starting point and the target without collision with moving *** vehicle moves to the next position from its current one such that the line joining minimizes the total path length and allows aligning its direction towards the *** choose the best compromise solution among all the non-dominated Pareto ones obtained for compromise objectives,the modified Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution(TOPSIS)is investigated.A set of homologous metaheuristics such as Multiobjective Salp Swarm Algorithm(MSSA),Multi-Objective Grey Wolf Optimizer(MOGWO),Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization(MOPSO),and Non-Dominated Genetic Algorithm II(NSGAII)is used as a basis for the performance *** results and statistical analyses show the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed MOMVO-based planning *** obtained results are satisfactory and encouraging for future practical implementation of the path planning strategy.

This paper presents a novel computer vision-based approach for assessing leg length discrepancy (LLD) in individuals with prosthetic limbs. The proposed solution uses image processing techniques to detect markers placed on the patient's knee, prosthesis, and a reference wall, allowing for precise measurement of limb alignment. Through a comparative analysis of the initial reference position, set by a specialist, and the current limb positioning, the algorithm identifies discrepancies in leg length. The system employs a non-invasive methodology, utilizing an IP camera to capture images and communicate them via Wi-Fi to a computing unit for further analysis. Experimental validation, conducted on simulated LLDs ranging from 1mm to 10mm, demonstrates the system's high sensitivity and accuracy in detecting subtle changes in limb alignment. This approach offers a scalable, automated alternative to traditional manual methods, improving both the reliability and ease of prosthetic adjustments.

On the link between explicit MPC and the face lattice of the lifted feasible domain

The paper provides a geometric interpretation for the explicit solution of the quadratic cost, linear-constrained MPC (model predictive control) problem. We link the face lattice of the lifted feasible domain (defined in the input and parameter space) with the critical regions which partition the parameter space and serve as polyhedral support for the piecewise affine explicit MPC solution. We provide geometric (face visibility) and algebraic (polyhedron emptiness) tests for the pruning of the candidate sets of active constraints.

Research into the engineering of infrastructure systems is increasingly data intensive. Researchers build computational models to explore scenarios such as investigating the merits of infrastructure plans, analysing historical data to inform system operations or assessing the impacts of infrastructure on the environment. Models are more complex, at higher resolution and with larger coverage. Researchers also require a 'multi-systems' approach to explore interactions between systems, such as energy and water with urban development, and across scales, from buildings and streets to regions or nations. Consequently, researchers need enhanced computational resources to support cross-institutional collaboration and sharing at scale. The Data and Analytics Facility for National Infrastructure (DAFNI) is an emerging computational platform for infrastructure systems research. It provides high-throughput compute resources so larger data sets can be used, with a data repository to upload data and share these with collaborators. Users' models can also be uploaded and executed using modern containerisation techniques, giving platform independence, scaling and sharing. Further, models can be combined into workflows, supporting multi-systems modelling and generating visualisations to present results. DAFNI forms a central resource accessible to all infrastructure systems researchers in the UK, supporting collaboration and providing a legacy, keeping data and models available beyond the lifetime of a project. © 2023 Emerald Publishing Limited: All rights reserved.

The micro RNA-messenger RNA dynamics is a topic of constant interest. In this paper we analyze the stability of equilibria of a mathematical model associated to this interaction. After proving the existence and uniqueness of an equilibrium point in the positive ortant, we provide numerically tractable conditions (by using Linear Matrix Inequalities techniques) to check the asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point.
