Thanks to the automation of diagnostic processes based on the EEG signal and the creation of classifications of various attention disorders based on the analysis of the EEG signals (as diagnostic markers) - it may be possible to refer patients to appropriate specialists and provide them with appropriate neurofeedback-based treatment. The marker method proposed by the authors of the hereof paper is based on analysis of the EEG, which signal can be widely use in screening diagnostics. The proposed solution in this work may be used for neurofeedback or Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI). In this paper the authors presented implementation of markers for the purpose of analysis of some memory disorders and short-time attention disorder. The study is still in progress. Presented results have initial-study character.

The cubature Kalman filter (CKF) is well-known for a decade as a derivative-free nonlinear Kalman filter that is well-suited for high-dimensional nonlinear estimation problems. This paper further develops this classical CKF in order to cope with time-varying noise statistics as well as inequality constraints on the estimated states. The resulting adaptive filter is suggested to provide more accurate state estimates and to be more robust against filter divergence. Moreover, this contribution proposes an automated filter design based on numerical optimization which uses the normalized estimation error squared (NEES) and the normalized innovation squared (NIS) as part of the objective function. The novel adaptive CKF is applied to wind turbines in order to assess the potential improvement for state and parameter estimation. The simulation results for an illustrative acid test scenario with time-varying measurement noise show the superiority of the novel adaptive CKF since it compensates the noise robustly and thereby outperforms the classical filter.

Defect engineering in metal oxides presents a promising approach for tailoring material properties. This strategy enhances gas sorption, catalysis, and control over key physical characteristics such as bandgap, magnetic behavior, and electrical conductivity. Despite its potential, the role of defect engineering in advancing metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas-sensing performance remains underexplored. This review introduces defect engineering strategies, emphasizing their applications in gas sensing. Gas sensors play a vital role in environmental monitoring, industrial safety, healthcare, and in improving energy efficiency. The demand for advanced gas sensors has never been more critical, given the need for real-time, accurate, and cost-effective detection of pollutant gases. MOS-based gas sensors are widely used in air quality monitoring, industrial safety, and health diagnostics. Vacancies and defect architectures in MOS have been widely studied for their role in sensing performance, as they fundamentally influence sensor efficiency. The effectiveness of MOS sensors largely depends on the type and concentration of defects. This review introduces vacancies and defects in MOS, followed by an in-depth discussion of defect types, factors influencing defect formation, and their role in charge transport. Additionally, it examines the correlation between elemental chemical properties and defect chemistry. Special attention is given to the defect chemistry of metal oxides, including TiO2, ZnO, Co3O4, ZrO2, WO3, and CeO2. It concludes with an examination of surface engineering methods for defect control to improve gas-sensing capabilities. © 2024

automatic language identification for romance languages using stop words and diacritics: Tool/experimental paper

automatic language identification is a natural language processing problem that tries to determine the natural language of a given content. In this paper we present a statistical method for automatic language identification of written text using dictionaries containing stop words and diacritics. We propose different approaches that combine the two dictionaries to accurately determine the language of textual corpora. This method was chosen because stop words and diacritics are very specific to a language, although some languages have some similar words and special characters they are not all common. The languages taken into account were romance languages because they are very similar and usually it is hard to distinguish between them from a computational point of view. We have tested our method using a Twitter corpus and a news article corpus. Both corpora consists of UTF-8 encoded text, so the diacritics could be taken into account, in the case that the text has no diacritics only the stop words are used to determine the language of the text. The experimental results show that the proposed method has an accuracy of over 90% for small texts and over 99.8% for large texts. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper some preliminary results of network anomaly detection for resource-constrained systems have been presented. All described algorithms are embedded into a three-tier system application. The presented solution is a response to nowadays trends in computer/network security domain that indicate gradual shifting from signature-based anomaly detection typically based on some selected statistical measures toward systems that are based on behavioural analysis of computer systems and/or networks. The presented system requirements, explain relevant terminology as well as we include some selected results and their analysis. The solution is potentially destined for very resource-constrained systems (IoT specifically), all tests were carried out in an example network to additionally analyse their effect of the presented approach on the computer resources.

The aim of this article is to show problems with the analysis of various cognitive disorders in the registered EEG signal and the effects of the neurofeedback therapy. Most of the disorders tested in ICD-10 have electroencephalographic readings associated with Beta bands and slow waves. All problems with attention deficit have similar records in the EEG signal and similar training protocols are used in their therapy and the results of the therapy are visible in more than 10 training sessions.

Benchmarking top-k keyword and top-k document processing with T2K2and T2K2D2

Top-k keyword and top-k document extraction are very popular text analysis techniques. Top-k keywords and documents are often computed on-the-fly, but they exploit weighted vocabularies that are costly to build. To compare competing weighting schemes and database implementations, benchmarking is customary. To the best of our knowledge, no benchmark currently addresses these problems. Hence, in this paper, we present T2K2, a top-k keywords and documents benchmark, and its decision support-oriented evolution T2K2D2. Both benchmarks feature a real tweet dataset and queries with various complexities and selectivities. They help evaluate weighting schemes and database implementations in terms of computing performance. To illustrate our benchmarks' relevance and genericity, we successfully ran performance tests on the TF-IDF and Okapi BM25 weighting schemes, on one hand, and on different relational (Oracle, PostgreSQL) and document-oriented (MongoDB) database implementations, on the other hand. The population aging, the need to reduce the cost of elderly care, as well as to increase security and energy efficiency have led to the emergence of many home monitoring systems. However, most of these systems are expensive, are not standardized, are complicated to implement (individualized wiring, wireless nodes) and can only be used with qualified personnel. Our light bulb prototype aims to reduce such deficiencies as well as remove the obstacles to adopting such systems by reducing costs and simplifying installation. The proposed solution aims to capitalize on existing electrical and lighting equipment, to set up a monitoring system only by replacing the luminaires in the existing electrical system with other lighting sources developed specifically for this purpose. Through the periodic replacement process and based on the current trend in light-emitting diode usage, these smart luminaires can be gradually introduced to supervise the location within houses, mostly elders' homes who live alone.

This paper proposes a new strategy for prototypes initialization in linear vector quantization algorithm (LVQ). Three principles which must be satisfied during the learning stage are shown in the paper. These principles are essential to guarantee appropriate learning for the LVQ algorithm. However, all versions of LVQ algorithms try to answer to one of the principles, but unfortunately contradicting with the other ones. The new strategy proposed in the paper aims to solve this issue and consists of two steps: (1) analyse the a-priori data set and (2) apply a pre-learning algorithm to initialize the prototypes. The pre-learned prototypes resulted from step 2 are used by the LVQ algorithm in the learning process. The examples presented in the case study and the criterion used to assess the training performance of the prototypes reinforce that the training strategy of the prototypes proposed in the paper provides better results in certain situations compared to classical LVQ algorithms.
