The umbral regions of sunspots and pores in the solar photosphere are generally dominated by 3 mHz oscillations, which are due to p-modes penetrating the magnetic region. In these locations, wave power is also significantly reduced with respect to the quiet Sun. However, here we study a pore where the power of the oscillations in the umbra is not only comparable, or even larger than that of the quiet Sun, but the main dominant frequency is not 3 mHz as expected, but instead 5 mHz. By combining Doppler velocities and spectropolarimetry and analysing the relationship between magnetic field strength and frequency, the resultant B − ω diagram reveals distinct ridges which are remarkably clear signatures of resonant MHD oscillations confined within the pore umbra. In addition to velocity oscillations, we demonstrate that these modes are also accompanied by magnetic oscillations, as predicted from MHD theory. The novel technique of B − ω analysis, proposed in this Letter, opens an exciting new avenue for identifying MHD wave modes in the umbral regions of both pores and sunspots. T2K2: The twitter top-k keywords benchmark

Information retrieval from textual data focuses on the construction of vocabularies that contain weighted term tuples. Such vocabularies can then be exploited by various text analysis algorithms to extract new knowledge, e.g., top-k keywords, top-k documents, etc. Topk keywords are casually used for various purposes, are often computed on-the-fly, and thus must be efficiently computed. To compare competing weighting schemes and database implementations, benchmarking is customary. To the best of our knowledge, no benchmark currently addresses these problems. Hence, in this paper, we present a top-k keywords benchmark, T2K2, which features a real tweet dataset and queries with various complexities and selectivities. T2K2helps evaluate weighting schemes and database implementations in terms of computing performance. To illustrate T2K2's relevance and genericity, we show how to implement the TF-IDF and Okapi BM25 weighting schemes, on one hand, and relational and document-oriented database instantiations, on the other hand. Reinterpretation and adaptation of knowledge from technical sciences into the field of sports science is at the forefront of advancing performance. Evolution-based systems open the possibility of evaluating different stress factors that appear in the systematization of training programs. Our aim was to demonstrate that it is possible to use evolution mechanisms to model the real life influence of stress factors during performance training of athletes, a concept that can be generalized to other supervised or controlled systems. We have recorded data from one former basketball player to be used in the development of a simulation model based on immune genetic algorithms. We developed an immunization scheme that is parameterized for simulating different training outcomes based on type of athlete. Results confirm one of these cases is possibly the most similar to real life situations. Thus, we obtained an evolution model that aligns with the generative experiment as proof of concept for the evaluation of performance under stress. In particular, for sports science, we may have found a way to analyze training programs before their execution and to spot weaknesses in them.

Boolean networks is a well-established formalism for modelling biological systems. A vital challenge for analysing a Boolean network is to identify all the attractors. This becomes more challenging for large asynchronous Boolean networks, due to the asynchronous updating scheme. Existing methods are prohibited due to the well-known state-space explosion problem in large Boolean networks. In this paper, we tackle this challenge by proposing a SCCbased decomposition method. We prove the correctness of our proposed method and demonstrate its efficiency with two real-life biological networks. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper addresses the problem of constructing bearing rigid networks in arbitrary dimensions. We first show that the bearing rigidity of a network is a generic property that is critically determined by the underlying graph of the network. A new notion termed generic bearing rigidity is defined for graphs. If the underlying graph of a network is generically bearing rigid, then the network is bearing rigid for almost all configurations;otherwise, the network is not bearing rigid for any configuration. As a result, the key to construct bearing rigid networks is to construct generically bearing rigid graphs. The main contribution of this paper is to prove that Laman graphs, which can be generated by the Henneberg construction, are generically bearing rigid in arbitrary dimensions. As a consequence, if the underlying graph of a network is Laman, the network is bearing rigid for almost all configurations in arbitrary dimensions. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. The advances in Internet of Everything (IoE) and the market-oriented cloud computing have provided opportunities to resolve the challenges caused by the Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure virtualization, capacity planning, data storage or complexity. The volume and types of IoT data motivate the need for a data storage framework towards the integration of both structured and unstructured data. In this paper, we propose a novel game theoretic technique for efficient and dynamic storage allocation in cloud-centric IoT systems. The benefit maximization problem is formulated as a cost-benefit analysis game investigating the storage capacity currently used in the cloud. In view of each player's strategy to lease additional storage capacity, the game property is analyzed and we prove that the game always admits a pure strategy Nash equilibrium. Since the player's decision affects the level of benefit maximization, we elaborate on a cost-optimal storage allocation incentive mechanism, which scales effectively once non-linear or linear demand for storage capacity occurs, towards achieving optimal leasing conditions on cloud storage and computing capacity level. The experimental validation tests prove the effectiveness of the proposed game theoretic approach allocating the requests for more storage capacity in a cost-effective manner, which achieves to maximize the benefits. © 2017 IFIP.

Trial-varying disturbances are a key concern in Iterative Learning control (ILC) and may lead to inefficient and expensive implementations and severe performance deterioration. The aim of this paper is to develop a general framework for optimization-based ILC that allows for enforcing additional structure, including sparsity. The proposed method enforces sparsity in a generalized setting through convex relaxations using 1norms. The proposed ILC framework is applied to the optimization of sampling sequences for resource efficient implementation, trial-varying disturbance attenuation, and basis function selection. The framework has a large potential in control applications such as mechatronics, as is confirmed through an application on a wafer stage. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The timber's drying process is a mandatory operation before any action of the wood processing. In the recent years, the fundamental research in the field of timber's drying has made progress, the physical laws regarding the removal of the water from the wood through different procedures (convection, vacuum, microwave etc.) being elucidated. The using of the calculus techniques allows the accurate simulation of heat and mass transfer phenomena, as well as of the mechanical aspects (internal stresses, deformations), which accompany the wood's drying process. The paper presents the implementation of the monitoring and the control system of the timber's conventional drying, using programmable controllers (Siemens), dedicated devices and dedicated software (Step 7).
