We introduce a method to evaluate the similarities between classes of objects based on the confusion matrices coming from the multi-class machine learning (ML) predictors that operate in the vector space generated by the classes. Operation in the confusion domain allows us to use the distance as evaluation metric of the closeness of the relevant properties carried by the classes. We applied the method to semiquantitatively evaluate the effects of X-ray and carbon ion radiation on cultured SW1353 chondrosarcoma cells with respect to the non-irradiated reference. We prove that it is possible to draw useful information on the strength of cells nuclei changes. © 2025, Politechnica University of Bucharest. All rights reserved.

Information security plays a major role in the dynamics of today’s interconnected world. Despite the successful implementation and effectiveness of modern cryptographic techniques, their inherent limitations can be exploited by quantum computers. In this article we discuss Grover’s quantum searching algorithm, given its relevance in such context. We begin by providing a formal presentation of the algorithm, followed by an implementation using IBM’s Qiskit framework, which allows us to both simulate and run the algorithm on a real device. The program we developed is modular and scalable, managing to properly run on any input state. Furthermore, it has several modes of operation that highlight its functionality. We compare the performance of the algorithm running on simulators against its execution on a quantum processor from IBM’s lineup, noting the discrepancies between the results due to physical factors. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The Co-operative Adaptive Cruise control (CACC) is one of the key subsystems of Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) that have the potential to increase the road traffic capacity and improve traffic safety with shorter inter-vehicle spacing between vehicles. The spacing strategies are the core of all CACC control algorithms which are chosen based on design purposes for the system. This work presents a comparative research to evaluate the effectiveness of two spacing strategies, consisting of the constant spacing strategy and, constant time headway strategy, which is suitable for information flow topologies. The main focus of this research analyzes the benefits of operating mechanisms as well as the characteristics of each spacing strategy. The results of the simulations using software Matlab/Simulink have demonstrated the performances and applicability of each spacing policy. © 2021, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Considering the evolution of technology, the need to secure data is growing fast. When we turn our attention to the healthcare field, securing data and assuring privacy are critical conditions that must be accomplished. The information is sensitive and confidential, and the exchange rate is very fast. Over the years, the healthcare domain has gradually seen a growth of interest regarding the interconnectivity of different processes to optimize and improve the services that are provided. Therefore, we need intelligent complex systems that can collect and transport sensitive data in a secure way. These systems are called cyber-physical systems. In healthcare domain, these complex systems are named medical cyber physical systems. The paper presents a brief description of the above-mentioned intelligent systems. Then, we focus on wireless sensor networks and the issues and challenges that occur in securing sensitive data and what improvements we propose on this subject. In this paper we tried to provide a detailed overview about cyber-physical systems, medical cyber-physical systems, wireless sensor networks and the security issues that can appear.

Gait analysis can provide relevant information about the physical and neurological conditions of individuals. For this reason, several studies have recently been carried out in an attempt to monitor people's gait and automatically detect gait anomalies. Among the various monitoring systems available for gait analysis, wearable sensors are considered the gold standard due to their wide capture range and low cost. However, in the case of people that require assistive devices for walking, some studies have proposed the use of sensorized devices in order to minimize invasiveness. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of comparative works that evaluate the performance of sensorized assistive devices for walking with widely used wearable sensors. Hence, this paper presents a comparison between the performance of accelerometer-based wearable sensors and a sensorized tip developed by the authors to detect gait anomalies. The comparative study has been carried out in a controlled environment with five healthy subjects, in which three different physical states have been simulated. A machine-learning based anomaly detection approach has been implemented based on the data captured by a set of wearable sensors and the sensorized tip, and the overall performance of both monitoring systems has been evaluated. Results show that even if both devices can provide an average accuracy of more than 80% in gait anomaly detection, the sensorized tip provides better performance.

In response to the escalating demand for electricity, the aging process and inherent failures in power lines have become unavoidable challenges in their operational integrity. This research addresses the imperative need for a robust method to detect damage in power insulator disc images, introducing a novel feature extraction technique grounded in color intensity profile transformation and ensemble learning. For the purposes of the research, a specific dataset was developed based on publicly available images of power insulators. The collection consists of 9232 images of insulator discs which included 2184 images of damaged discs. The discernible damages include breakages and burnouts. Two distinct analysis variants were employed. In the first variant (V1), two classification groups were selected: disc with damages and disc without damages. In the second variant (V2), three classification groups were selected: discs without damage, broken discs, and burnout discs. The described research was divided into two successive stages. In the first of them (S1), the transformed color intensity profiles for the prepared data set were built and various machine learning models for their classification were trained and evaluated. In the next stage (S2), previously developed, highest efficient machine learning models, were used to make the detection of various damaged types of overhead line insulator discs. For the first stage of research high-performance results and a high value of the F1 score parameters were obtained (F1 score = 0.999 for the first variant (S1V1) and F1 score = 0.992 for the second variant (S1V2). In the second stage of research and the first variant (S2V1), the highest result of the F1 score was 0.932 and for the second variant (S2V2) F1 score was 0.930. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

This paper aimed to develop an IoT gateway that takes data from a repository and transmits it to a PowerApps application. There the data is stored for users in tables and graphics and compared with information from other sources available inside the PowerApps. Moreover, due to the large data storage capacity as well as the connection to APIs we can see at any time of the day various meteorological information, but we can also compare them with those of the past.

A well-known advanced driver assistance technology that can be employed for that is the Adaptive Cruise control System (ACC). Cars equipped with ACC system are to control the car speed to follow a driver's set speed closely when there is no leading car. When a slower leading car is present based on distance sensor, the ACC controlled car are able to keep desired distance with respect to the position and velocity of the car in front. This paper presents a design methodology of Adaptive Cruise control (ACC) system for two smart car platform consist of the leading smart car and a host smart car move on a single lane on a laboratory installation. RST algorithm in the multi algorithms structure is proposed to design in real-time architecture for ACC system. RST algorithm is one of the most effective solutions for the real-time control of nonlinear systems or working regimes. The results of the experiment have been conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. © 2023 IEEE.

To overcome the disadvantages that traditional controllers bring, in this study, it is proposed to use fractional order controller PIλ instead of conventional PI controller, the research also focuses on improving the quality of the controller. the order controller itself by selecting the computational methods, the discretization methods, and the implementation methods that give the best results. The study conducted simulations and experiments and compared the results with conventional PI controllers, in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the fractional order controller. © 2023 IEEE.
