The contribution of the present paper is a new, more refined method for the automated creation of large-scale detailed distribution grid models based solely on publicly available GIS and statistical data. Utilizing the street layouts in Open Street Maps as potential cable routes, a graph representation is created and complemented by residential units that are extracted from the same data source. This graph structure is adjusted to match the electrical low-voltage grid topology by solving a variation of the minimum cost flow linear optimization problem with provided data on secondary substations. In a final step, the generated grid representation is transferred to a DIgSILENT PowerFactory model including photovoltaic systems. The presented workflow uses open source software and is fully automated and scalable. It allows the generation of ready-to-use distribution grid simulation models for given 20kV substation locations and additional data on residential unit properties for improved results. The performance of the developed method with respect to grid utilization is presented for a selected suburban residential area with power flow simulations for eight scenarios including current residential photovoltaic installation and a future scenario with full photovoltaic expansion. For the latter, the simulation results indicate heavy congestion in the low-voltage grid for full photovoltaic capacity deployment without batteries. Furthermore, the suitability of the generated models for quasi-dynamic simulations is shown. © 2022 IEEE.

One of the most common and important tasks in control is to maintain a specified constant output value. While constant output is typically achieved for linear time-invariant systems by controlling a state equilibrium, it is also possible to achieve with nonequilibrium state trajectories. These include superpositions with the zero dynamics trajectories, as well as nonequilibrium non-zero-dynamics trajectories. We give a geometric description of the state subspace which allows a constant output. For a nondegenerate system with no invariant zero at s = 0, the subspace is the sum of the equilibrium subspace and the maximal output-nulling subspace. Furthermore, for minimal systems, a stronger statement in the form of a necessary and sufficient condition is given.

Supervised Neural Networks are used for segmentation in many biological and biomedical applications. To omit the time-consuming and tiring process of manual labeling, unsupervised Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) can be used to synthesize labeled data. However, the training of GANs requires extensive computation and is often unstable. Due to the lack of established stopping criteria, GANs are usually trained multiple times for a heuristically fixed number of epochs. Early stopping and epoch selection can lead to better synthetic datasets resulting in higher downstream segmentation quality on biological or medical data. This article examines whether the Frechet Inception Distance (FID), the Kernel Inception Distance (KID), or the WeightWatcher tool can be used for early stopping or epoch selection of unsupervised GANs. The experiments show that the last trained GAN epoch is not necessarily the best one to synthesize downstream segmentation data. On complex datasets, FID and KID correlate with the downstream segmentation quality, and both can be used for epoch selection. © 2023 the author(s), published by Walter de Gruyter Berlin/Boston.

Application of Robust Control Toolbox for Time Delay Systems implemented in the Matlab system to the oscillating plant with uncertain time delay using the D-K iteration and algebraic approach. The algebraic approach combines the structured singular value, algebraic theory and algorithm of global optimization solving remaining issues in structured singular value framework. The algorithm of global optimization can be alternated with direct search methods such as Nelder-Mead simplex method giving solutions for problems with one local extreme. As a global optimization method, Differential Migration is used proved to be reliable in solving this type of problems. The D-K iteration represents a standard method in the structured singular value theory. The results obtained from the D-K iteration are compared with the algebraic approach. © 2023 IEEE.

IoT devices can advantageously be used to monitor various variables. IoT communication is usually limited to shorter distances. The presented IoT device design allows use for areas where the data needs to be secured over longer distances and the frequency of sending is uncritical for control. It can be used for farmers or for cities where data sending can be done by multiple, must secure the communication of IoT device over long distances. LoRaWAN is one option to provide this type of communication. The demonstration is an IoT device that monitors soil moisture and provides data collection. The prepared IoT device can be used for designing IoT devices where data transmission over longer distances needs to be achieved. Collecting data using an IoT device, in this way, allow data to be obtained for analysis. The protocol can impact the power consumption of a device. The design of the IoT device is implemented in a way that it can be functional for as long as possible on battery power. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Internet of Things (IoT) devices are not just simple devices anymore. The introduction of industry IoT (IIoT) and Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) creates new challenges in terms of communication. The presented comparation shows the advantages and disadvantages of two communication protocols, which are suitable for new coming generation of IoT devices. Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) and Representational State Transfer (REST) can provide extended functions for data acquisition and they offer different options in terms of data transfer. A demonstration of the integration of IoT devices is shown, based on both protocols and there are classified from the functional perspective in terms of Industry 4.0. The experiment is built on the ESP32 S3 development board and data are processed by Node-Red flow. Data are acquired and saved into relation database. Verification of data transfer is performed and is visible on the dashboard. The transfer of data and connections were also recorded. The IoT device sends three data types, which are produced by sensors. Data types were selected to demonstrate a possibility how to work with standard data types like char variables or numerical values but main topic is to show how to transfer binary or complex data structures like JavaScript Object Notation (JSON). The experiment also demonstrates how communication protocol can impact the power consumption of a device. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

We are currently witnessing a gradual increase in interest in digital shadow and digital twin solutions in the field of industrial automation. These solutions require advanced approaches in the process of their creation and are gradually becoming an integral part of industrial automation. This paper focuses on the creation of a digital shadow of a physical robotic cell and progressively goes through all the phases from the analysis of communication problems through the design of possible solutions to the actual implementation of one of the proposed solutions. The connection between the virtual robotic cell and the industrial camera is based on the processing of the data sent by the camera located above the physical robotic cell. This data is processed by a program in the PLC and then transferred to the virtual environment of the digital shadow by communication between the two OPC servers. This paper provides a more detailed overview of one possible technique for connecting the virtual environment with the physical robotic cell. © 2023 IEEE.

The integration of technology in education has provided a more interactive and engaging experience through the creation of Serious Games. By using 3D virtual environments and Virtual Reality, interactive experiences which simulate real-life situations and environments can be created. The development process of such applications often proves to be slow and cumbersome. However, the addition of a trigger system or scenario editor could enable educators to easily create scenarios for students without requiring much programming knowledge. Designing the trigger system should be based on the principles of reusability, applicability and extensibility. This paper focuses on the creation of such a trigger system and its uses throughout the development of a 3D VR Serious game called Visit UPT. This game enables students to explore the university campus and simulate small scientific experiments. © 2023 IEEE.

The goal of whitespace correction is to fix space errors in arbitrary given text. For example, given the text whi te space correctio nwithTransf or mers, produce whitespace correction with Transformers. We compare two Transformer-based models, a characterlevel encoder-decoder model and a byte-level encoder-only model. We find that the encoderonly model is both faster and achieves higher quality. We provide an easy-To-use tool that is over 900 times faster than the previous best tool, with the same high quality. Our tool repairs text at a rate of over 200 kB/s on GPU, with a sequence-Averaged F1-score ranging from 87.5% for hard-To-correct text up to 99% for text without any spaces. © ACL-DEMO 2023. A quadratic regression model-based predictive control method is presented for grid-side converters. The control scheme calculates the cost function for seven voltage vectors of the inverter and extends it to the entire modulation region using regression. Then a constrained optimization problem must be solved to find the most feasible control action in this continuous control space. The found optimal voltage vector can be generated using Pulse-Width Modulation methods. The control method is validated in a custom Hardware-in-the-Loop environment using model-based rapid-prototyping tools of Matlab/Simulink.
