We study the geometric knapsack problem in which we are given a set of d-dimensional objects (each with associated profits) and the goal is to find the maximum profit subset that can be packed non-overlappingly into a given d-dimensional (unit hypercube) knapsack. Even if d = 2 and all input objects are disks, this problem is known to be NP-hard [Demaine, Fekete, Lang, 2010]. In this paper, we give polynomial time (1 + Ε)-approximation algorithms for the following types of input objects in any constant dimension d: disks and hyperspheres, a class of fat convex polygons that generalizes regular k-gons for k ≥ 5 (formally, polygons with a constant number of edges, whose lengths are in a bounded range, and in which each angle is strictly larger than π/2), arbitrary fat convex objects that are sufficiently small compared to the knapsack. We remark that in our PTAS for disks and hyperspheres, we output the computed set of objects, but for a OΕ(1) of them we determine their coordinates only up to an exponentially small error. However, it is not clear whether there always exists a (1 + Ε)-approximate solution that uses only rational coordinates for the disks’ centers. Hierarchical networks are frequently encountered in animal groups,gene networks,and artificial engineering systems such as multiple robots,unmanned vehicle systems,smart grids,wind farm networks,and so *** structure of a large directed hierarchical network is often strongly influenced by reverse edges from lower-to higher-level nodes,such as lagging birds’howl in a flock or the opinions of lowerlevel individuals feeding back to higher-level ones in a social *** study reveals that,for most large-scale real hierarchical networks,the majority of the reverse edges do not affect the synchronization process of the entire network;the synchronization process is influenced only by a small part of these reverse edges along specific *** surprisingly,a single effective reverse edge can slow down the synchronization of a huge hierarchical network by over 60%.The effect of such edges depends not on the network size but only on the average in-degree of the involved *** overwhelming majority of active reverse edges turn out to have some kind of“bunching”effect on the information flows of hierarchical networks,which slows down synchronization *** finding refines the current understanding of the role of reverse edges in many natural,social,and engineering hierarchical networks,which might be beneficial for precisely tuning the synchronization rhythms of these *** study also proposes an effective way to attack a hierarchical network by adding a malicious reverse edge to it and provides some guidance for protecting a network by screening out the specific small proportion of vulnerable nodes.

The paper presents a comparative analysis of the simulation results of a DC-DC buck regulator based on LM2595 on three different simulation platforms: PSpice, LTspice, and Tina. The comparative analysis includes visual comparison of selected waveforms, comparison of statistical parameters of the observed signals, and comparison based on time step signal analysis. The simulation was performed using three different maximal time step conditions. The research focused on examining the differences caused by different simulation platforms under the same maximal time step condition, as well as the differences caused by different maximal time step conditions within a single simulation platform. This analysis is crucial, particularly when comparing different simulation Spice models that require simulations to be conducted on various simulation platforms. By comparing the results obtained from different platforms under the same simulation conditions, the impact of the simulation platform on the accuracy and behavior of the models can be assessed. © 2023 IEEE.

Breast tumor classification plays a crucial role in early detection and treatment planning for breast cancer. In recent years, deep learning models have shown remarkable success in image-based medical diagnosis. This study focuses on improving breast tumor classification using fine-tuned hyperparameter training of deep learning models. By optimizing key parameters such as learning rate, batch size, and network architecture, the classification accuracy of models like ResNet, AlexNet, GoogleNet and VGG is enhanced. The proposed approach leverages advanced techniques such as transfer learning, data augmentation, and hyperparameter optimization algorithms (Bayesian Optimization along with population-based training) to achieve robust performance on breast cancer datasets. The proposed method is able to achieve 98.46% accuracy while classifying breast cancer dataset. Experimental results demonstrate significant improvements in classification accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score compared to conventional approaches, making the fine-tuned models more suitable for clinical applications. The findings suggest that hyperparameter tuning in deep learning models is critical to improving model performance and generalization in breast tumor classification tasks. © 2025 IEEE.

Smart home IoT devices have always been the target of various cyber attacks. By leveraging the smart home monitoring infrastructure, event-based anomaly detection is effective to detect anomalies that cause unfavorable working state of IoT devices. However, IoT events are proven to be vulnerable to event-targeted attacks which could be achieved by exploiting the vulnerabilities embedded in IoT devices, protocols and/or platforms. Thus, existing event-based anomaly detection is not robust in the case of unreliable input. To address this issue, our insight is that the embedded microphone components in many off-the-shelf home devices (e.g., smart doorbells, speakers, cameras, tablets, laptops, etc.) could be utilized to gather acoustic information to help increase the reliability and capability of smart home security monitoring systems. To verify this idea, we propose an audio-assisted framework IoTAudMon for detecting event-targeted attacks. Considering the heterogeneity and sparsity nature of smart homes IoT devices and events, we employ transfer learning to design a practical pipeline for extracting semantic information from audio, eliminating the requirement of human labeling and mitigating the cold start issue in existing solutions. Experiments on public datasets and real devices demonstrate the effectiveness of IoTAudMon. © 2024 IEEE.

Highly reliable and flexible control is required for distributed generation(DG) to efficiently connect to the *** inverters play a key role in the control and integration of DG into the power grid and provide advanced functionalities. In this paper, an energy-based single-phase voltage-source smart inverter(SPV-SSI) of 5 k VA is designed and analyzed in detail. SPV-SSI is capable of supplying the power to local load and the utility load up to the rated capacity of the inverter, injecting the power into the grid, storing the energy in lead-acid battery bank, controlling the voltage at the point of common coupling(PCC) during voltage sags or faults, and making decisions on real-time pricing information obtained from the utility grid through advanced metering. The complete design of smart inverter in dq frame, bi-directional DC-DC buck-boost converter, IEEE standard 1547 based islanding and recloser, and static synchronous compensator(STATCOM) functionalities is presented in this paper. Moreover, adaptive controllers, i. e., fuzzy proportional-integral(F-PI) controller and fuzzy-sliding mode controller(F-SMC) are designed. The performances of F-PI controller and F-SMC are superior, stable, and robust compared with those of conventionally tuned PI controllers for voltage control loop(islanded mode) and current control loop(grid-connected mode).

IEC 61499 is an executable, event-based language for control software that allows visual and textual implementation of individual software components (Function Blocks, FBs). The standardized visual service sequence model specifies the expected input/output behaviour of a component, thus supporting model-based testing. We present our approach for testing an FB on various platforms, which helps manage the variations in execution semantics between different vendors. First, service sequences are generated manually or derived from an existing (partial) implementation. Then, these service sequences serve as unit tests for this implementation. Finally, we create a test application that is executable on any IEC 61499-compliant platform. Executing tests directly in the target platform helps validate the correct functionality of an FB before deploying the control software to a cyber-physical system. © 2023 IEEE.

Electroencephalography (EEG) is widely used in clinical applications and basic research. Dry EEG opened the application area to new fields like self-application during gaming and neurofeedback. While recording, the signals are always affected by artefacts. Manual detection of bad channels is the gold standard in both gel-based and dry EEG but is time-consuming. We propose a simple and robust method for automatic bad channel detection in EEG. Our method is based on the iterative calculation of standard deviations for each channel. Statistical measures of these standard deviations serve as indications for bad channel detection. We compare the new method to the results obtained from the manually identified bad channels for EEG recordings. We analysed EEG signals during resting state with eyes closed and datasets with head movement. The results showed an accuracy of 99.69 % for both gel-based and dry EEG for resting state EEG. The accuracy of our new method is 99.38 % for datasets with the head movement for both setups. There was no significant difference between the manual gold standard of bad channel identification and our iterative standard deviation method. Therefore, the proposed iterative standard deviation method can be used for bad channel detection in resting state and movement EEG recordings. © 2022 The Author(s), published by De Gruyter.

In the context of traditional PID model-based control, where sinusoidal or PRBS excitation on a real plant is not advisable or desirable, this paper outlines a method to obtain some relevant information by merely comparing model-based and actual time-domain reaction curves. This comparative analysis yields valuable information that can be subsequently translated into a practical estimate of uncertainty in the frequency domain. This, in turn, will enable the control designer to gain some insight into imposing realistic boundaries for closed-loop response specifications, which will ultimately be consistent with what can be expected from the actual plant response. The conditions for robust stability and robust performance are outlined and further assessed through academic simulation experiments.

In this paper, a novel approach for extrinsic calibration of GNSS/IMU and multiline LiDAR sensors in ground-based SLAM systems is presented. LiDAR and GNSS/IMU sensors are widely used in SLAM systems for sensing and localization. However, precise calibration of the extrinsic parameters between these sensors is crucial for successful sensor fusion. The extrinsic calibration involves determining the translation and rotation matrices, denoted as t and R respectively, which characterize the relative position and orientation between the GNSS/IMU and LiDAR sensors. To achieve accurate calibration, a specially designed calibration plate is introduced in this approach. One major advantage of this method is that it can be performed in a static setting, eliminating the need to calculate LiDAR odometry. This allows for continuous and highly accurate GNSS/IMU positional data acquisition. Additionally, by moving the combination to accumulate multiple poses, the method ensures that the GNSS/IMU and multiline LiDAR sensors have only one fixed attitude during calibration. This increases the robustness of the calibration results. To validate the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, simulated and measured datasets are used for quantitative and qualitative assessments. The results demonstrate the accuracy and reliability of the extrinsic calibration approach. © 2023 IEEE.
