This paper proposes a lightweight reinforcement network (LRN) and auxiliary label distribution learning (ALDL)based robust facial expression recognition (FER) *** designed representation reinforcement (RR) network mainly comprises two modules,i.e.,the RR module and the auxiliary label space construction (ALSC) *** RR module highlights key feature messaging nodes in feature maps,and ALSC allows multiple labels with different intensities to be linked to one ***,LRN has a more robust feature extraction capability when model parameters are greatly reduced,and ALDL is proposed to contribute to the training effect of LRN in the condition of ambiguous training *** tested our method on FER-Plus and RAF-DB datasets,and the experiment demonstrates the feasibility of our method in practice during rehabilitation robots.

Synchronous reluctance machines (SynRMs) are increasingly used in various applications, such as energy conversion systems and electric drives. In addition to standard control algorithms, some of these applications also require the implementation of flying start methods that aim to estimate the rotor speed and angle before the SynRM is connected to the converter. In this way, synchronization between the SynRM and the converter is achieved, and the inrush current is reduced. This paper proposes a new method for the flying start of SynRMs based on symmetric and opposite active voltage vectors and a second-order generalized integrator (SOGI) with a frequency-locked loop (FLL). Applying such a voltage vector pattern to the terminals of a rotating SynRM induces phase current spikes whose sampled counterparts have a sinusoidal waveform. According to the derived mathematical model of the SynRM in the stationary αβ reference frame, the induced β-axis current contains no DC offset and is therefore passed to the SOGI-FLL structure to estimate the rotor angle and speed. Moreover, applying the opposite active vectors ensures a lower current distortion, guarantees the accuracy of the estimation and reduces the generated torque. The proposed method was verified by simulations in Matlab Simulink. © 2024 IEEE.

Tracking daily paths in home contexts with RSSI fingerprinting based on UWB through deep learning models

The field of human activity recognition has evolved significantly, driven largely by advancements in Internet of Things (IoT) device technology, particularly in personal devices. This study investigates the use of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for tracking inhabitant paths in home environments using deep learning models. UWB technology estimates user locations via time-of-flight and time-difference-of-arrival methods, which are significantly affected by the presence of walls and obstacles in real environments, reducing their precision. To address these challenges, we propose a fingerprinting-based approach utilizing received signal strength indicator (RSSI) data collected from inhabitants in two flats (60 m2 and 100 m2) while performing daily activities. We compare the performance of convolutional neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), and hybrid CNN+LSTM models, as well as the use of Bluetooth technology. Additionally, we evaluate the impact of the type and duration of the temporal window (future, past, or a combination of both). Our results demonstrate a mean absolute error close to 50 cm, highlighting the superiority of the hybrid model in providing accurate location estimates, thus facilitating its application in daily human activity recognition in residential settings. © The Author(s) 2024.

An Interval Multi-Objective Evolutionary Generation Algorithm for Product Design Change Plans in Uncertain Environments

Design change is an important issue in complex product development projects. In a complex product with numerous parts (also known as components), the change of one key part may spread to other parts associated with it, generating a chain reaction throughout the entire project. Therefore, it is necessary to select a suitable change plan involving only fewer crucial parts in order to enhance the product’s performance, minimize change cost, and reduce change duration/time. Focusing on the case where the correlation strength between parts cannot be accurately obtained, in this paper we study an interval multi-objective evolutionary algorithm for finding excellent design change plans. Firstly, on the basis of the established multi-layer product network with interval correlation weights, an interval multi-objective optimization model of the product design change planning problem is established, where three new objective functions regarding product performance, carbon trading cost and supply risk are defined. Then, a constraint multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on interval Pareto dominance is proposed to search for optimal change plans. Several novel operators, including the problem characteristic-guided population update strategy, the probability-based interval Pareto dominance, and the interval constraint handling strategy, are developed to enhance the algorithm’s performance. Finally, the proposed algorithm is compared with eight existing algorithms on the two design change cases, experimental results revealed its effectiveness. IEEE

Lithium-ion battery packs are widely deployed as power sources in transportation electrification solutions. To ensure safe and reliable operation of battery packs, it is of critical importance to monitor battery operation status and diagnose battery faults early. This paper proposes a soft short circuit (SC) fault detection method for a parallel battery pack. Since it is impractical to equip current sensors for all the cells in a parallel pack, a reconstructed state-space equation combining the electrical dynamic of a battery cell and the electrical characteristics of a parallel battery pack is designed for the cell current estimation. Then, the occurrence of an SC fault can be timely detected based on the difference between the measured and estimated branch current flowing through the first interconnected resistance. Simulations on a parallel-connected battery pack under a 10 Ω SC resistance are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

In sensorless motor drive applications, the rotor and the speed of the rotor are usually estimated through state observer algorithms. A key part of such algorithm is the computation of the derivative of the rotor position, resulting in the estimated rotor speed. computing derivatives brings challenges due to their inherent noise amplification characteristic. This paper presents enhanced discrete-time differentiators for state observers of sensorless permanent magnetic synchronous motor drives. A class of discrete-time differentiators based on finite impulse response filters and one based on Kalman filter are proposed. Details about how to obtain the coefficients of the differentiators are presented. To verify the performance of the proposed differentiators, all of them were executed in F28379D LaunchPad microcontroller. Results show that the proposed discrete-time differentiators compute the derivative of the rotor position signal in a satisfactory manner, even in the presence of noise. © 2023 IEEE.

VITMST++: Efficient Hyperspectral Reconstruction Through Vision Transformer-Based Spatial Compression

Hyperspectralchannel reconstruction transforms a subsampled multispectral image into hyperspectral imaging, providing higher spectral resolution without a dedicated acquisition hardware and camera. Multi-stage Spectral-wise Transformer for Efficient Spectral Reconstruction (MST++) is a state-of-the-art channel reconstruction technique, but it faces memory limitations for high spatial-resolution images. In this context, we introduced VITMST++, a novel architecture incorporating Vision Transformer embeddings for spatial compression, multi-resolution image context, and a custom channel-weighted loss. Developed for the ICASSP 2024 HyperSkin Challenge, VITMST++ outperforms the state-of-the-art MST++ in both performance and computational efficiency in channel reconstruction. In this work, we perform a deeper analysis on the main aspects of VITMST++ efficiency, quantitative performance, and generalization to other datasets. Results show that VITMST++ achieves similar values of SAM and SSIM hyperspectral reconstruction metrics when compared to state-of-the-art methods, while consuming up to three fold less memory and needing up to 10 times fewer multiply-add operations. © 2020 IEEE.
