Image-based region mapping requires an image-stitching process to produce a complete map while preserving the details of the mapped objects. Image acquisition can be done using UAVs such as drones, and image stitching can be performed using the Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF (ORB) techniques. However, this algorithm has a drawback: There are many mismatches during feature matching. In this study, a maximum pixel displacement constraint between images was applied during the feature-matching process. Applying this constraint improved the feature-matching results due to a significant reduction of the mismatch rate from 84.28% to 25.17%. This reduction positively impacted subsequent stages, including map stitching. The mismatch removal process and the acquisition of transformation models during image registration became faster, reducing the processing time from 17m 36.8s to 1m 17.2s. Additionally, there was an improvement in the SSIM metric score, indicating that the stitched image results had a higher similarity to the reference image captured by a digital camera, increasing from 0.8423 to 0.8489. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. This paper explains the development of an electric cart that helps the elderly maintain or improve their physical strength. Unlike commercially available ones, it has a pedal unit that provides some exercise for a user in training his lower limbs. An impedance model describes the feeling of pushing the pedals. The largest pedal load is determined based on a pedaling experiment. An H∞ controller is designed for each of the largest pedal load and virtually no load. A control law, which is based on the concept of dynamic parallel distributed compensation, is designed using the rating of perceived exertion of a driver as a criterion to choose a pedal load between the largest and almost zero. Five university students and twelve elderly people participated experiments to verify the system design and the validity of the system.

Iron ore pellets measurement using deep learning based on YOLACT

The thermal efficiency for the pelletizing process is intrinsically linked to the diameter and humidity of the iron ore pellets, so that the sensing of the granulometric range in the formation of the pellets becomes essential to the flow of the pelletizing process in the steel industry;this paper presents the assembly of a computer vision system for the detection and segmentation of pellets aiming at the automation of the granulometric measurement, following its formation in the pelletizing disk, using the instance segmentation method to verify whether the particle granulometric distribution (PSD) is adequate for "real-time" applications. The system calculates the normal distribution of the diameter in millimeters, evaluating the normal curve and the standard deviation of the segmented pellets, using a deep neural network based on the You Only Look At CoefficienTs (YOLACT) network, adding speed and precision in the granulometric analysis. In the sample sets, the need for adjustment factors inherent to the pelletizing process became evident. This led to the establishment of the computer vision system, termed the Volumetric Correction Factor (VCF) and Visual Overlay Factor (VOF). The VCF is utilized to estimate the volume of pellets within the pelletizing disk during operation, while the VOF adjusts the millimeter-per-pixel (mpp) ratio. This paper proposes the analysis of the material can be protected from transformer testing and presents a mathematical model of the power transformer. In this research, transformers were study in four protective materials, wood, rubber, glass and acrylic that are used in between the electric field measurement and the transformer. By simulating the test results of a transformer with a voltage of 230 kV. Computer-based simulation utilizing the finite element method (FEM) is exploited as a tool for visualizing electric fields distribution volume a power transformer. The simulation results showed that the material with the best protection against the electric field was wood insulation and the best installation location was a distance of 5 m from the transformer. © 2023 IEEE.

Micro-inverters usually are used to connect photovoltaic panels (PV) to the electricity grid. If the energy provided by the panel is not enough to satisfy the demands, the system becomes dependent exclusively of the grid. This constraint demands the use of a battery bank, therefore it is necessary to add a third port to the micro-inverter to connect this energy backup. In this paper, a two stage micro-inverter is proposed, the first stage is a DC/DC Triple Active Bridge (TAB) converter that integrates a back-up battery and works in soft switching;and the second stage is a Voltage Source Inverter (VSl) that operates in both grid-connected mode (GCM) and Stand Alone Mode (SAM). The grid-multimode operation controller developed detects the islanding fault and maintains the energy quality for a typical nonlinear load. Reliability and robustness of Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPS) are increased by the proposed control. © 2017 IEEE.

A novel control strategy is proposed for a bidirectional multiport single phase two stage microinverter without electrolytic capacitor. The application of this converter is for power factor correction under non-linear grid tied load. The converter is composed of a triple active bridge series-resonant DC/DC converter cascaded with a voltage source inverter where a film capacitor is used in the DC-Link. Power decoupling is obtained due to a high ripple low frequency voltage in the DC-Link. The proposed controller has three cascaded loops to control the DC-Link average voltage, the instantaneous grid current and the point of common coupling voltage respectively. This strategy allows having a high speed steady-state response, good stability, low harmonic distortion in the grid, bidirectional power flow and low computational cost unlike other controllers. Two different cases have been tested, the first one when only the grid delivers power to the non-linear load, and the second one when the power flow is shared between the grid and any other DC source (renewable source or battery). Simulation results validate the controller functionality. © 2017 IEEE.

Deep-operator-network-based Mars entry parametric bank angle profile optimization

Rapid and reliable onboard optimization of bank angle profiles is crucial for mitigating uncertainties during Mars atmospheric entry. This paper presents a neural-network-accelerated methodology for optimizing parametric bank angle profiles in Mars atmospheric entry missions. The methodology includes a universal approach to handling path constraints and a reliable solution method based on the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. For illustrative purposes, a mission with the objective of maximizing terminal altitude is considered. The original entry optimization problem is converted into optimizing three coefficients for the bank angle profiles with terminal constraints by formulating a parametric Mars entry bank angle profile and constraint handling methods. The parameter optimization problem is addressed using the PSO algorithm, with reliability enhanced by increasing the PSO swarm size. To improve computational efficiency, an enhanced Deep Operator Network (DeepONet) is used as a dynamics solver to predict terminal states under various bank angle profiles rapidly. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed methodology ensures reliable convergence with a sufficiently large PSO swarm while maintaining high computational efficiency facilitated by the neural-network-based dynamics solver. Compared to the existing methodologies, this methodology offers a streamlined process, the reduced sensitivity to initial guesses, and the improved computational efficiency.

The development of interoperability is more and more an essential task for all kinds of organizations. It needs to be measured, verified, and continuously improved. With the advent of the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, Digital Transformation, as well as all technologies it brings, such as big data, cloud computing, and mobile applications, this subject become quite ordinary and necessary, not only in a manufacturing scenario but also in a business process. As crucial benefits, it can bring possible gains for developers and users, also reduce the efforts to communicate multiple and different platforms. Like all new implementations, there are significant challenges that have to be overcome to allow satisfactory results. In this paper, after a systematic literature review to better understand the technologies and this new situation, we conduct a study involving a case in a business process, presenting some actions that can be executed and technologies that can be implemented to reach a well interoperable environment. For instance, to analyze the interoperability maturity level and to adopt ontologies as an alternative to integrate heterogeneous systems. Finally, in the last part of the paper, we give conclusions and perspectives for futures works. © 2021 The authors and IOS Press.

The objective of this study was to compare and correlate the Portable Ultra Sound (US) measuring technique to the skinfold measuring technique (SF) to estimate body fat percentage (%F) in young adults. Sixty military were evaluated, all males, divided in two groups: Group 1 (normal) composed by 30 military with Body Mass Index (BMI) until 24.99 kg/m(2) and Group 2 (overweight) composed by 30 military with BMI > 25 kg/m(2). Weight, height, skinfolds and ultrasound were measured in 9 points (triceps, subscapular, biceps, chest, medium axillary, abdominal, suprailiac, thigh and calf). Body fat average values obtained by skinfold thickness and ultrasound measurements were 13.25 +/- 6.32 % and 12.73 +/- 5.95 % respectively. Despite significant differences in measurements of each anatomical site, it was possible to verify that the total final body fat percentage calculated by both techniques did not present significant differences and that overweight group presented greater similarity between the values obtained using caliper and ultrasound equipment.

The Cahn-Hilliard equation, known for describing the evolution of interfaces in multicomponent systems, can also be employed to noise reduction in mathematical functions and concentration-dependent heat transfer simulations. This work presents a finite difference method discretization of the Cahn-Hilliard equation and explores its applications. For noise reduction, three different noisy functions are simulated, demonstrating effective recovery of original functions despite significant noise levels. In heat transfer simulations, three initial temperature distributions are explored with concentration-dependent thermal diffusivity. Results show that concentration significantly affects thermal diffusivity and heat propagation, leading to non-uniform temperature distributions. Comparative simulations without concentration influence highlight the distinct impact of concentration on thermal behavior. The study underscores a reliable approach to noise reduction and insight into concentration-dependent heat transfer dynamics. © 2024 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, All Rights Reserved.
