Accounting for process industry changes to ensure consistency requires careful control loop tuning, and, in more complex scenarios, can necessitate advanced process control strategies. In the process industries, change is constant in product composition, production rates and even personnel. Processes are subject to a wide variety of factors impacting quality and performance. Many plants struggle with maintaining enough personnel to perform loop tuning and advanced control.

This paper proposes a framework for efficient remote service support in meta-verse. This work was initiated by a empathy-driven sensitive listening counselor bot enhanced by real and virtual services including digital twins selected by a powerful need/offer matching. This matching is leveraged on ADN (Autonomous Decentralization Network) IBN (Intention Based Network) for efficiency (high performance) exploiting DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) for safety. This framework makes it possible to provide highly efficient teleservice including telemedicine in virtual spaces, which enables eternal evolution. Moreover, this paper introduces a concept for an integrated learning and evolutionary self-improvement of our metaverse system. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper describes and motivates a standard for heavy-duty hydrogen fuel-cell modules in terms of their form factors and interfaces, both physical and digital. The goal is that the standardised fuel cell modules shall be suitable for multiple applications such as ships, trains, stationary generator sets in addition to heavy duty vehicles. While standards have been developed for test protocols, safety, and fuelling operations, little to no work has been done to define an interchangeable standard for fuel-cell modules. Such a standard can prove decisive to pool several heavy-duty markets together, accelerate design and realisation of hydrogen vehicles, enable competition among fuel-cell module manufacturers, and reduce their total cost of ownership. The StasHH project is developing prototypes from eight major manufacturers and will test them during 2023.

Turbulence load prediction for manned and unmanned aircraft by means of anticipating differential pressure measurements

This paper focuses on the prediction of disturbance effects of the vertical acceleration of an aircraft flying in atmospheric turbulence. To this end, 5-hole probes with high-dynamic differential pressure sensors are installed in front of a fixed-wing unmanned aircraft system (UAS) and a manned experimental aircraft to measure the local airspeed and angle of attack of the airflow. Test flights are performed in light, moderate and severe turbulence to assess the anticipating character and the accuracy of the predicted acceleration. Thereby, depending on the flown airspeed, anticipation times up to 0.1 s are observed. For the UAS the prediction accuracy is assessed to be 71.19% for moderate turbulence and 71.05% for severe turbulence, where vertical acceleration disturbances higher than 30 m/s2 are measured. The first manned test flight revealed a prediction accuracy of 61.97%. © 2021, The Author(s).

Using a traditional automation approach for modern production challenges that require highly flexible, deliberative, adaptive, and collaborative solutions is inadequate. Instead of explicitly programming control code and performing virtual verification for topologically static and fully automatic roboticcells, intelligent automation systems have emerged to offer an alternative to how automation is currently performed. This entails the use of behavior modeling, planning, scheduling, control, and testing algorithms which are not yet integrated in the traditional automation tool-chain, as well as virtual modeling, preparation, commissioning, and verification tools which offer more flexibility compared to well established and commercially available tools. To address the gap between the need of intelligent automation systems and the lack of tools that are needed to implement such systems,this paper presents a framework for virtual preparation and commissioning of intelligent automation systems, with the main goal to depict the steps that have to be taken in order to develop such systems, and to offer support for engineers to take those steps. The framework consists of steps such as virtual preparation, resource emulation, and several steps such as constructive, hardware-in-the-loop, reality-in-the-loop, and physical commissioning. This paper aims to lay down some of the groundwork for fast and integrated preparation and virtual commissioning of intelligent automation systems, and provides an industrial use-case to exemplify the application of this framework. © 2022, The Authors. High-quality production scheduling is increasingly important in modern industry operations. We study a class of scheduling problems where jobs take place at predefined locations, as is common in mining, forestry and logistics. The proposed neighborhood selection algorithm is able to find high- quality solutions fast and guarantees that a globally optimal solution is eventually found. Preliminary results are promising. © 2020 IEEE.

The highly individualized production processes for long products in the steel industry is subject to a variety of influencing variables with mutual interactions in a complex manner. To handle this complexity, modern data mining methods can be used for a highly efficient analysis of process data, to detect process anomalies in the process data, e.g. from rolling mills by statistical pattern recognition. This paper proposes a data-based strategy for detecting process anomalies within a hot rolling mill for long products. Suitable data are identified and selected from existing sensors and processed within a new database. This central database is used to train classification algorithms. The reliability of two prominent classifiers based on Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and One-Class Support Vector Machines (OC-SVM) has been evaluated. From the comparison in this respective use case, it has been concluded that satisfying results can be obtained, but PCA is highly dependent on the data distribution. The OC-SVM has also been implemented and tested and offers advantages when the data sets have a more complex distribution.

LSTM water prediction for feedforward control of moulding sand compressibility ⁎

This paper presents a databased approach for improving the precision of the moulding sand compressibility in the moulding sand mixer of a foundry. In this approach, the deviation between the measured and the target compressibility is reduced by controlling the water addition. The complex dynamic behaviour of the process variables and their influence on the water addition is modelled with a long short-term memory (LSTM) network. Another LSTM network as control path simulates the impact of the water addition on the compressibility. Simulation and experimental results with the applied model for water prediction in a feedforward control yield relevant improvements of the moulding sand compressibility.
