Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common disease of central nervous system among the elderly, and its complex symptoms bring up some difficulties for the clinical diagnosis. And Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is an effective treatment method for patients with Parkinson's disease. In this study, a method based on polar coordination system with varied origin was proposed to quantitatively evaluate the availability of DBS operation for patients with Parkinson's disease. Totally, seven patients with Parkinson's disease were participated in the spiral drawing experiment and their scores under Unified Parkinson's disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) were also recorded. According to the characteristics of hand movement in spiral drawing, a set of parameters were defined and calculated before and after DBS operation. Compared with the UPDRS scores, experimental results showed that this method of evaluation was consistent with the clinical diagnosis. The proposed method based on polar coordinate system with varied origin is effective in clinical diagnosis, and it provides a basis for quantitative evaluating the effectiveness of surgery and treatment. © 2011 IEEE.

Parkinson's disease is one of the most common neurodegenerative disorders, and its complex symptoms bring some difficulties for the clinical diagnosis. In this study, a method based on mathematical modeling of hand movement in spiral drawing was proposed to quantitatively evaluate the performance of patients with Parkinson's disease. Unlike the previous works, the hand movement data in spiral drawing were analyzed and modeled under the polar coordinate system with varied origin. Experimental results gained from the model showed that this method of evaluation was consistent with the clinical diagnosis before and after deep brain stimulation operation. The proposed method based on mathematical modeling in polar coordinate system with varied origin is effective in clinical diagnosis, and it provides a basis for quantitative evaluating the effectiveness of surgery and treatment. © 2011 IEEE.

At present, the cooperative operation pattern of manned/unmanned aerial vehicle team has became a focus of international research. To assessment the cooperative effect of manned/unmanned aerial vehicle team, some influential factors are analyzed and a analysis model of cooperative effect is built based on fuzzy cognitive map(FCM). From simulation results, this model can realize organic integration between expert knowledge and quantitative calculation. Through mapping the influential factors with concept nodes of FCM, the dynamic change of cooperative effect can be described more directly. © 2011 IEEE.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common movement disorder caused from the neurological dysfunction in basal ganglia. Patients with Parkinson's disease have serious movement problems, such as movement disorders, tremor and rigidity. In this study, a new technique of hand movement compensation for patients with Parkinson's disease based on spiral drawing tasks was proposed. In order to extract the hand movement feature of patients with Parkinson's disease, the polar coordination system with varied origin was used to gain characteristic parameters more accurately. The compensation model was constructed by using the parameters obtained in spiral drawing tasks, and we also do simulation under this model to verify the effectiveness. The simulation results proved that the proposed compensation technique will be effective for assisting the movement of patients with Parkinson's disease. © 2011 IEEE.

The paper takes National Topographic Database by assuming vector diagram water system with 1:250,000 scale as a data source. A reasonable and efficient coding method for river network is presented, which can solve the coding problem of converged river network, bifurcate river network, crossed river network and water of lake and reservoir. The coding method can reflect the topology of river network and can locate any stream segment of river network directly and operate the topology of river network effectively. At the last, this coding method is applied to parts of stream segments in Taihu Lake basin. As the results, the coding method is made by the paper can solve the coding problem of complicated river network, the upstream-downstream relationship can be easily identified through the coding of stream segment, the self-replicating coding has excellent expansibility and high efficiency, and can be handled easily by the computer. © 2011 IEEE.

In electromagnetic (EM) geophysical surveys the most revealing description of EM distortion occurs due to heterogeneity of medium. Prior to determine EM field behavior for stratified earth model, there is need to understand EM field behavior for topography and single interface model. This study involve ingle interface model which embodies two very different situations of conductive and non-conductive half space using finite-element (FE) method. The efficient and accurate modeling is used to calculate the EM field at interface with topography of layered media. The finite element algorithm is implemented in MATLAB and results obtained are also discussed in this chapter.

Global Positioning system (GPS)-equipped probe vehicles have been one of the principal techniques in detection of traffic flow. In order to guide the application of the different methods using data from GPS probe vehicles, this paper compares two of the most popular methods using the GPS data to estimate traffic state- the method of tracking probe vehicles, and the one of fitting the model with the sample points of probe vehicles. In the experiment, data from thousands of GPS-equipped taxies were taken as the probe vehicles, and the estimate accuracy and operation speed of the two different methods were systematically measured. For the accuracy experiment, the ground truth was obtained by replaying the videos which were shot on 24 links in Shanghai downtown. The experiment results illustrate that the tracking-based method usually bears higher estimate accuracy, and slower operation speed, compared to the model-fitting method. © 2011 ASCE.

Differential Evolution (DE) is a simple and efficient numerical optimization method. Most DE variants in the literature adopt fixed population size. This paper incorporates into DE the mechanisms of lifetime and extinction which regulate DE's population size in an adaptive manner. The population size is adjusted according to the online progress of fitness improvement. Two schemes of inserting new individuals are proposed to match different mechanisms respectively. The performance of these innovations is examined through the optimization of benchmark problems. The results show that the proposed adaptive population sizing strategy is efficient for improving the convergence and efficiency of the DE. © 2011 Asian control Association.

This paper examines robust partially mode delay dependent H ∞ output feedback controller design for discrete-time systems with random communication delays. A finite state Markov chain with partially known transition probabilities is used to model random communication delays between sensors and controller. Based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, a novel methodology for designing a partially mode delay-dependent output feedback controller is proposed. Using cone complementarity linearization algorithm bilinear matrix inequalities (BMIs) are solved to obtain the controller gains. We also show that the results for completely known transition probabilities and completely unknown transition probabilities can be derived as special cases of our result. The effectiveness of the proposed design methodology is demonstrated by a numerical example. To the best of authors' knowledge, the problem of designing an output feedback controller for a partially known transition probability has not been fully investigated. © 2011 AACC American Automatic control Council.

Because the structure and function of a high-rise building is complex and the density of occupants in it is high, fire safety is still a worldwide difficult problem. Safety and timely evacuation is an important issue under fire in the high-rise buildings. Because it is impossible in fact to do experiments about fire safety evacuation in high-rise buildings, in this paper, a research framework based on the artificial system, computational experiments, and parallel excution (ACP) theory is proposed. First, an evacuation process is considered to compose of two stages including pre-evacuation stage and evacuation stage. Second, artifical men with recognition functions based agent technology is proposed. Finally, computational experiments are designed by using an orthogonal experiment table, and experiment procedure of pre-evacuation stage is given. The idea of systimatic research about the influence of fire control facilities to evacuation is also proposed © 2011 IEEE.
