The optimization of the operation of chemical plants may require the development of mathematical models of the process units of a plant. These mathematical models can be either first-principles or data-driven models. The former type of modeling may be complex for the use in optimization and especially for online applications such as real time optimization. Available measured process data can be used to develop the latter type of modeling. Although data-driven models offer several benefits for online applications, there are some very significant challenges related to their development in a practical industrial implementation. This paper discusses the important aspects of the building of data-driven models and demonstrates the effects of these types of models on the optimization results. The current work demonstrates the application of a real time optimization framework applied to an industrial air compressor station of an air separation plant when the models are based on operating data.

We study the linear-quadratic-Gaussian(LQG) control for multiple-input/multiple-output(MIMO) discrete-time networked control systems(NCSs) in the presence of data packet drops that are modeled as multiplicative noises,assumed to be white *** will first analyze the mean square(MS) stability problem for MIMO feedback systems in the presence of the multiplicative noises,and provide a new useful MS stability *** LQG control under packet data drops will then be studied in which the critical probability of the received data packet can be computed by solving a set of linear matrices inequalities(LMIs),beyond which the modified algebraic Riccati equations,associated with the LQG control,admit the stabilizing *** a numerical example from the known literature is employed to illustrate our results.

A study of the optimal real-time management of hydrogen H_2 networks in an oil refinery has been carried out. The paper addresses the main problems related to the operation of the networks combining data reconciliation with a real-time optimization RTO system for the optimal production and redistribution of hydrogen. Coherent and robust results have been achieved regarding the data reconciliation stage despite all the uncertainty in measurements and process operation, according to the off-line validation performed. Once the network state has been estimated, a RTO approach was followed aiming at the real-time optimal operation of the global refinery H_2 network;an analysis of the solutions achieved was also performed.

The models of PV arrays with centralized maximum power point tracking（MPPT） and distributed MPPT structures were set up and output characteristics of PV arrays were simulated under different light *** maximum power output of PV arrays is reduced to 40 W from 85 W for centralized MPPT structure when simulating solar light intensity of one of PV arrays is adjusted to 800 W/m from 1200 W/***,the power output of PV arrays is not obviously decreased with sunlight intensity changed from1200 W/m to 800 W/m in the distributed MPPT *** results indicate that the power output of distributed MPPT is superior to that of centralized MPPT under shade ***,the response time of PV arrays with distributed MPPT is 0.08 second to reach a stable state,which is longer than response time（0.005 seconds） of centralized MPPT.

This paper addresses the experimental study on mapping multiple odor sources using the proposed algorithm based on Dempster-Shafer (D-S) theory in outdoor environments where the airflow almost always be strong and change with time both in direction and speed. In the proposed algorithm, by using the time series of the measurements from an anemometer and twelve gas sensors, the robot estimates the air-mass path to compute the belief mass function, and iteratively updates a grid map with D-S inference at each time step, mapping the distribution of two odor sources when the robot is cruising in the given search area. Here the air-mass path is defined as the historical trajectory most likely taken by the air mass contacting with the gas sensor mounted on the mobile robot, and an air mass might contain odor molecules, or just be a mass of clean air. In the grid map, each cell has two possible states, being occupied by an odor source, or not. In order to cut the calculation of the proposed algorithm, only the cells covered by the estimated air-mass path are updated. Experiments were carried out in outdoor nature environments, and the results illustrate that the proposed algorithm based on D-S theory can be applied to map multiple odor sources online.

A modified Elman neural network (MENN) based neural adaptive inverse control scheme is proposed for trajectory tracking of rate-dependent hysteresis. To attenuate the influence of the rate-dependent hysteresis, a modified inverse backlash operator (MIBO) is developed to act as the hidden layer neuron of the MENN to describe the dynamic behavior of the inverse rate-dependent hysteresis. The diagonal recurrent weights of context layer and the recurrent weights from hidden layer to context layer are designed to enhance the dynamic learning capability of the MENN. To determine an appropriate structure and the parameters of the MENN for adaptive inverse control, a MENN is trained first based on the data of inverse rate-dependent hysteresis. In view of the nonsmooth characteristics of the MIBOs, a restricted step proximal bundle (RSPB) method is employed to search the appropriate subgradients at the nonsmooth vertexes of the MIBOs. The relevant Levenberg-Marquardt (L-M) algorithm is developed to acquire an appropriate MENN that is used as the initial controller to implement adaptive inverse control for rate-dependent hysteresis via gradient descent learning algorithm. Numerical control results on a Duhem model of piezoelectric actuators have validated the effectiveness of the proposed method.
