Aiming at the uncertainty of sonar data in the problem of sonar-based target differentiation for mobile robot, the paper firstly presents a hierarchical reduction approach to reduce a sonar data set based on rough set theory. Then on the basis of the reduction, a multi-neural network based target differentiation algorithm is designed on the fact that the effective combination of multiple neural networks can increase the ability to pattern classification and generalization of the whole system. Parallel network architecture is adopted locally to increase the differentiation accuracy. And the average weighed strategy is applied to fuse the outputs of the parallel neural network classifiers to improve the robustness of the differentiation system to noise, physically plausible failure and missing sonar data situation. The simulation experiments prove that the new method combining with the traditional target differentiation algorithm can increase the accuracy of sonar-based target differentiation for mobile robot in indoor environments

Batch process optimization based on support vector regression model

A support vector regression model based on batch to batch optimal control strategy was proposed. Because of model mismatching and unknown disturbances, the control performance of optimal control profile calculated from empirical model is deteriorated. Due to the repetitive nature of batch processes , it is possible to improve the operation of the next batch using the information of the current and previous batch runs. A batch to batch optimal control strategy based on the linearization of the model around the control profile is proposed. Applications to a simulated batch styrene polymerization reactor demonstrate that the proposed method can improve process performance from batch to batch in the presence of model mismatching and unknown disturbances.

ANTI-SYNCHRONIZATION CHAOS SHIFT KEYING METHOD BASED ON GENERALIZED LORENZ SYSTEM

In this paper, a modified version of the Chaos Shift Keying (CSK) scheme for secure encryption and decryption of data is proposed. The proposed scheme uses the effect of anti-synchronization, rather than synchronization. More specifically, the classical CSK method determines the correct value of binary signal through checking which unsynchronized system is getting synchronized. On the contrary, our novel method determines wrong value of binary signal through checking which already synchronized system is loosing synchronization. The advantage of the proposed method is two-fold. First, it requires very reasonable amount of data to encrypt and time to decrypt a single bit. Secondly, its security can be investigated and estimated as practically unbreakable. The main reason for both advantages is that anti-synchronization is thousand times faster than synchronization, even when using two close each to other chaotic systems. Our method is implemented and thoroughly tested on the recently introduced generalized Lorenz system (GLS) family making advantage of its special parametrization.

This paper deals with the synthesis of linear feedback controllers for constrained discrete-time linear systems with polytopic uncertainty description. This problem was initially tackled using ellipsoidal robust invariant sets in the paper by Kothare (Kothare et al., Automatica, 1996) leading to an LMI-based optimization problem. The contribution of this paper is twofold. First the aforementioned method is extended to also take into account mixed state/input constraints and cross-terms between states and inputs in the objective function. Secondly, polyhedral invariant sets (Pluymers et al., ACC, 2005) are introduced in the synthesis algorithm in order to eliminate conservative constraint handling. This results in a provably more optimal feedback controller. The resulting method can either be used on-line in a receding horizon fashion to obtain a robust constrained controller or off-line in order to obtain a feedback controller with a guaranteed feasible region for use in dual-mode or other robust model-based predictive control algorithms. A numerical example is given to illustrate the new algorithm

The power-loss models for different switching states of IGCTs and diodes in MV (medium voltage) three-level NPC (neutral point clamped) inverters are presented in this paper. The models, simulation implementation and the revisional experiments on IGCT test platform are described in details. The relation between the power losses and the other elements of the inverter is analyzed and discussed.

Autonomous navigation of vehicle running with GPS receiver is an important study aspect of future vehicle navigation field. This paper introduces a self-study type navigation method. In this method, real-time receiving for position information of vehicle running track is carried out by embedded GPS receiver, and linearized processing with unitary regression algorithm for discrete position information received by GPS receiver is carried out by microprocessor, then linear correlation of track information is judged by linear correlation coefficient and track information is divided into sections based on degree of linear correlation. Position information of running track is obtained by self-study and the formed autonomous navigation track information is of high navigation accuracy and predictability of front direction. This method needs no professional GIS technology to support and is of excellent flexibility

In rare earth cascade extraction processes, element component content (ECC) is an important quality measure to assess the control effect. In this paper, a multiple models-based soft-sensor is developed to predict ECC in order to solve the difficulty with on-line measurement. First, the subtraction clustering algorithm is used to locate the operating points and calculate the model number, then around the multiple operating points a set of multiple bilinear models are established. At every sample instant, the parameters of the multiple models are identified by the least square algorithm, and an optimal model is determined according a switching law. The application results show that the proposed soft-sensor is effective and the prediction accuracy is relatively high by comparing with data collected method from industries

The cost of implementing real-time monitoring and control of industrial processes is a significant barrier for many companies. Acoustic techniques provide complementary information to optical spectroscopic sensors and have a number of advantages: they are relatively inexpensive, can be applied non-invasively, are non-destructive, multi-point measurements are possible, opaque samples can be analysed in containers that are made from opaque materials (e.g. steel or concrete) and the analysis can be conducted in real-time. In this paper a new theoretical model is proposed which describes the transport of particles in a stirred reactor, their collision with the reactor walls, the subsequent vibrations which are then transmitted through the vessel walls, and their detection by an ultrasonic transducer. The particle-wall impact is modelled using Hertz-Zener impact theory. Experimental data is then used in conjunction with this (forward) model to form an inverse problem for the particle size distribution using a least squares cost function. Application of an integral smoothing operator to the power spectra greatly enhances the accuracy and robustness of the approach. One advantage of this new approach is that since it operates in the frequency domain, it can cope with the industrially relevant case of many particle-wall collisions. The technique will be illustrated using data from a set of controlled experiments. In the first instance a set of simplified experiments involving single particles being dropped in air onto a substrate are utilised. The second set of experiments involves particles in a carrier fluid being stirred in a reactor vessel. In each case the approach is able to successfully recover the associated particle size

This paper reports the digital-time domain and frequency domain studies on a typical 132 kV capacitor voltage transformer (CVT) model. The transient studies are conducted using alternative transient program (ATP-EMTP). Simulation results corresponding to the CVT transient response under both system fault and ferroresonance condition are reported in this paper. Transient studies are performed (1) to identify the CVT components that contribute to the transient response of CVT, (2) to determine system condition that affect the CVT transient response. A lightning simulation case study is also presented.
