This paper investigates the distributed feedback optimization problem of nonlinear multi-agent systems. In such systems, each agent can measure the relative outputs between itself and its neighbors but lacks access to their absolute states and internal controller states. By combining distributed optimization and singular perturbation methods, a novel distributed controller design is presented, that relies solely on each agent's real-time gradient values of its local objective function and its relative output measurements to neighboring agents. The boundedness of the closed-loop signals and the convergence of the agent outputs to the minimizer of the total cost are proved rigorously. A numerical example is conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Robust PID Control of Second-Order Uncertain Nonlinear System with Time-Varying Delay: An Input-Output Approach ⁎

This paper studies the PID robust tracking control problem for second-order nonlinear systems with time-varying input delay. An input-output approach is adopted to show the existence of robust PID control, which can tolerant the time-varying delay and the uncertain nonlinearity. First, the uncertain nonlinearity can be scaled by unknown bounds and the time-varying input delay is approximated by using the three-term approximation method. Next, the uncertain nonlinear time-varying delay system under PID control can be transferred into two interconnected subsystems, which is prone to be analyzed by the input-output approach. Then, by using the scaled small-gain theorem and constructing the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, a sufficient condition on the existence of robust PID controller to stabilize the closed-loop system against time-varying delay and uncertain nonlinearity is proposed, which implies the tracking performance of the original PID control system. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Wastewater treatment processes (WWTPs) contribute significantly to water recycling and energy conservation, because their failures can lead to the potential risk of adverse environmental impacts. WWTPs are acknowledged to be largely nonlinear systems with a series of biological reactors. Additionally, the presence of process uncertainties and measurement noises in WWTPs makes it difficult for the purpose of fault detection. This paper focuses on the data-driven realization of fault detection for sludge bulking and toxic impact in WWTPs. The fault detection model employs NARXbased neural networks to construct the residual generator through the maximum likelihood approach. The maximum likelihood-based NARX neural network can optimize both the model parameters and covariance matrix related to stochastic noises, based on which the model delivers more robustness performance against uncertainties than the existing work. Therefore, the nonlinearity and unknown system uncertainties of WWTPs can be processed simultaneously. The superiority and effectiveness of the maximum likelihood-based NARX neural network are validated through the benchmark simulation model no.1, where the successful detection rates for detecting sludge bulking faults and toxic impact faults are proved to be significantly higher than the traditional methods. © 2023, The Authors. The motor system is a complex system and widely applied in industrial production process. In this paper, the mechanism model and common faults of the motor are analyzed firstly, and the motor model is established by the LabVIEW software. Secondly, the methods used to realize motor fault diagnosis are introduced. Based on the diagnosis result of various fault diagnosis methods, the advantages and disadvantages of various fault diagnosis methods are analyzed. Considering that random forest (RF) has strong classification ability and convolutional neural network (CNN) has strong feature extraction ability, a fault diagnosis model of CNN-RF is proposed combining the CNN and RF algorithm. The proposed CNN-RF model can realize the fault diagnosis of motor effectively. Finally, the motor fault diagnosis system based on C# language is built. The experiments show that the proposed method has good performance in fault diagnosis.

This paper mainly considers the wireless communication scenario where equipment in different working conditions switches its channel state in the actual industrial field. To address the problem of uncertain communication delays in wireless control systems, we model the randomness introduced by the inevitable multipath fading channels as a Markov process. The distribution of communication delays is controlled in a statistical sense, given the probability density function(PDF) of power gain under various channel states and the Markov transition matrix. Based on the principle of Shannon channel capacity, we propose an algorithm for controlling the shape of the PDF to find the optimal transmission power for each channel state in the sense of minimizing delay variance. Then the transmission power is adjusted according to the channel state in real-time, and the PDF shape of the communication delays is controlled to present a Gaussian distribution of minimized variance. Compared with the delay variance of 80 ms by using fixed transmission power, the simulation results show that the variance of the communication delays is reduced to 0.1 ms when the wireless channel states is known.

Limited information availability represents a fundamental challenge for control of multi-agent systems, since an agent often lacks sensing capabilities to measure certain states of its own and can exchange data only with its neighbors. The challenge becomes even greater when agents are governed by high-order dynamics. The present work is motivated to conduct control design for linear and nonlinear high-order leader-follower multi-agent systems in a context where only the first state of an agent is measured. To address this open challenge, we develop novel distributed observers to enable followers to reconstruct unmeasured or unknown quantities about themselves and the leader and on such a basis, build observer-based tracking control approaches. We analyze the convergence properties of the proposed approaches and validate their performance through simulation. © 2022, CC BY.

The collections and statistical analysis of production data are essential for process monitoring in modern industries, yet often faces challenges such as multi-sample rates and dynamics. In this paper, we propose a uniformly spaced double-latent variable probabilistic (USDLVP) model that can obtain the measurement correlations within diverse sampling rates (SR). The model utilizes the greatest common divisors of the SR to construct a latent variable structure, effectively addressing the challenges encountered by conventional methods in handling practical multi-sampling rate data. Moreover, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics in multi-sampling rate processes, a Markov-enhanced double latent variable structure is presented to extract data autocorrelation features from both quality-correlated and uncorrelated perspectives. The expectation maximization (EM) algorithm is employed for model training. Finally, the model is adopted to develop a fault detection method, which is subsequently applied in two industrial plants. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed model in handling multi-sampling rate issues. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Containment Control of Multi-Agent Systems over Directed Graphs: A Delay Robustness Perspective ⁎

This paper investigates the delay range optimization for robust containment control of first-order multi-agent systems over directed graphs. The purpose is to find the maximum allowable delay range within which the multi-agent system can achieve containment robustly under P and PD containment control protocols subject to communication delay. This means that a group of follower agents converge to the convex hull formed by the multiple leader agents under a distributed control protocol. In this paper we focus on a continuous first-order multi-agent system in which each individual agent has an unstable real pole. The connected graph among agents is directed graph, and followers can receive information from leaders as well as from other followers, in which each leader has at least one global accessible path for all followers, and leaders do not communicate with each other. By using the frequency domain analysis method, we provide the exact expression and the bounds on the maximum allowable delay range for robust containment control of multi-agent systems. The results show that the position of the pole and the network connectivity will affect the delay bound. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of our proposed results.

Several data compressors have been proposed in distributed optimization frameworks of network systems to reduce communication overhead in large-scale applications. In this paper, we demonstrate that effective information compression may occur over time or space during sequences of node communications in distributed algorithms, leading to the concept of spatio-temporal compressors. This abstraction classifies existing compressors as spatio-temporal compressors, with their effectiveness described by constructive stability criteria from nonlinear system theory. Subsequently, we apply these spatio-temporal compressors to standard continuous-time consensus flows and distributed prime-dual flows, establishing conditions ensuring convergence. Additionally, we introduce a novel observer-based distributed primal-dual continuous flow integrated with spatio-temporal compressors, which provides broader convergence conditions. These continuous flows achieve exponential convergence to the global optimum when the objective function is strongly convex and can be discretized using Euler approximations. Finally, numerical simulations illustrate the versatility of the proposed spatio-temporal compressors and verify the convergence of algorithms. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
