In this paper, we study the distributed nonconvex optimization problem, aiming to minimize the average value of the local nonconvex cost functions using local information exchange. To reduce the communication overhead, we introduce three general classes of compressors, i.e., compressors with bounded relative compression error, compressors with globally bounded absolute compression error, and compressors with locally bounded absolute compression error. By integrating them, respectively, with the distributed gradient tracking algorithm, we then propose three corresponding compressed distributed nonconvex optimization algorithms. Motivated by the state-of-the-art BEER algorithm proposed in [1], which is an efficient compressed algorithm integrating gradient tracking with biased and contractive compressors, our first proposed algorithm extends this algorithm to accommodate both biased and non-contractive compressors. For each algorithm, we design a novel Lyapunov function to demonstrate its sublinear convergence to a stationary point if the local cost functions are smooth. Furthermore, when the global cost function satisfies the Polyak–Lojasiewicz (P–L) condition, we show that our proposed algorithms linearly converge to a global optimal point. It is worth noting that, for compressors with bounded relative compression error and globally bounded absolute compression error, our proposed algorithms’ parameters do not require prior knowledge of the P–L constant. The theoretical results are illustrated by numerical examples, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms in significantly reducing the communication burden while maintaining the convergence performance. Moreover, simulation results show that the proposed algorithms outperform the state-of-the-art compressed distributed nonconvex optimization algorithms. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. A Scalable Test Problem Generator for Sequential Transfer Optimization

Sequential transfer optimization (STO), which aims to improve the optimization performance on a task of interest by exploiting the knowledge captured from several previously-solved optimization tasks stored in a database, has been gaining increasing research attention over the years. However, despite the remarkable advances in algorithm design, the development of a systematic benchmark suite for comprehensive comparisons of STO algorithms received far less attention. Existing test problems are either simply generated by assembling other benchmark functions or extended from specific practical problems with limited scalability. The relationships between the optimal solutions of the source and target tasks in these problems are also often manually configured, limiting their ability to model different similarity relationships presented in real-world problems. Consequently, the good performance achieved by an algorithm on these problems might be biased and hard to be generalized to other problems. In light of the above, in this study, we first introduce four concepts for characterizing STO problems and present an important problem feature, namely similarity distribution, which quantitatively delineates the relationship between the optima of the source and target tasks. Then, we present the general design guidelines of STO problems and a particular STO problem generator with good scalability. Specifically, the similarity distribution of a problem can be easily customized, enabling a continuous spectrum of representation of the diverse similarity relationships of real-world problems. Lastly, a benchmark suite with 12 STO problems featured by a variety of customized similarity relationships is developed using the proposed generator, which would serve as an arena for STO algorithms and provide more comprehensive evaluation results. A T-S model-dependent robust asynchronous fuzzy predictive fault-tolerant tracking control scheme is developed for nonlinear multiphase batch processes with time-varying tracking trajectories and actuator faults. Firstly, considering the influence of the mismatch between the previous phase state and the current phase controller during the switching, a T-S fuzzy switching model including the match and mismatch case is established. Depending on the fuzzy switching model, a robust fuzzy predictive fault-tolerant tracking controller is designed by considering the situation whether the model rules correspond to the controller rules. Secondly, using the related theories and methods, the system stability conditions presented by the linear matrix inequality considering the above conditions are provided to guarantee the stability of the system. By solving these stability conditions, the T-S fuzzy control law gain of each phase, the minimum running time of each match case and the maximum running time of each mismatch case are obtained. Then, through the maximum running time, the strategy of the switching signal in advance is adopted to avoid the occurrence of asynchronous switching, so as to ensure that the system can operate stably. Distributed finite-time safety–critical consensus control for multi-agent systems and its application to microgrids

This paper focuses on the problem of distributed finite-time safety–critical consensus control for a class of multi-agent systems with switching networks and external disturbances. All followers with unsafe initial states are expected to enter and stay within a safe set in a finite time, and then track a leader asymptotically. To address this problem, a distributed finite-time robust control framework is formulated from a new perspective, where a stability condition and two soft-minimum barrier function-based safety conditions are derived to drive the follower system to enter and remain within safe zone in a finite time. Additionally, a nominal distributed robust consensus controller is designed by exploiting an improved dynamic compensator and a disturbance observer. Also, a synthesized distributed robust controller can drive the follower system to enter the safe set in a finite time and achieve the safety–critical asymptotic consensus tracking. Finally, the effectiveness is verified by applying the control approach to a microgrid example.

An Eth-Based Approach to Securing Industrial Internet Systems Against Mutinous Attacks

In order to defend a distributed industrial Internet network system against two kinds of typical mutinous attacks, i.e., Byzantine attacks and DDoS attacks, that happen inside of the system, this paper proposes an Ethereumbased securing strategy. First, a credit mechanism-based Bayesian inference method is developed to increase the system nodes’ sensitivity to malicious behavior and to improve system’s robustness against false messages. Then, a miner selection method is proposed to avoid the information clog occurring in the system nodes’ txpools and improve the efficiency of the whole system. The constructed securing strategy consists of these two methods and is shown to be applicable to industrial scenarios involving both mobile and static nodes. Financing the Retailer in the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain: Charge Interest or Not?

This study proposes a pharmaceutical supply chain system consisting of a manufacturer, an underfunded retailer, a logistics provider, and a bank. First, in accordance with bank financing (hereafter 'BF'), logistics provider financing (hereafter 'LF'), and manufacturer financing (hereafter 'MF'), we respectively obtain and compare the optimal decisions and profits of the manufacturer, retailer, and logistics provider. This research provides two key conclusions that diverge from existing relevant studies. The logistics provider or manufacturer takes a certain negative interest rate when providing the underfunded retailer with a financing service, which can raise revenues of all enterprises (manufacturer, retailer and logistics provider). To put it differently, for a retailer with relatively high capital, the negative interest financing from the logistics provider or manufacturer is a new incentive mechanism that results in a Pareto improvement of supply chain. Under certain conditions, adopting the MF mode will generate more revenue for the logistics provider, and adopting the LF mode will create greater profit for the manufacturer. © 2022, The Authors. A simple compression sealing method for planar single-cell SOFC testing

A lab high-temperature planar solid oxide fuel cell was designed and built for developing and testing new sealing strategies. The lab cell was developed to allow easy and fast sealing and to be low cost; it was made from AISI316 stainless steel and sealed with vermiculite sheets (Thermiculite). It was applied a low compressive loading (0.2 N m) to avoid the failure of the ceramic membrane (Thermiculite). The ex-situ and in-situ experiments revealed remarkable results; the leakage rate was very low, 0.44 mL min −1 m −1 . The electrochemical tests revealed a high stable open circuit potential of ca . 1.04 V @ 650 °C when hydrogen and oxygen were fed to the cell, indicating minimal crossover between the cathode and anode. The reliability of the cell design was assessed by performing several heating cycles. During the cooling and heating stages, the circuit was open while when running at the nominal temperature, 650 °C, a potential difference of 0.7 V was imposed for a total of 109 h. The open circuit potential remained stable during the whole experiment.

The Forth Party Logistics (4PL) is becoming the main mode of logistics for its effective characteristics, of which the routing problem is the key problem. In order to find a suitable route, stochastic delay time must be considered. Routing problem with stochastic delay time is studied with the objective of minimize cost and the constraint of due date in this paper. First, both chance constrained programming model (CCPM) and expectation model (EM) are established for the problem. Then numerical experiments are used for models comparison and problem analysis. The results show that the CCPM is more corresponding in the face of stochastic delays, so that the optimal route of decision-making is more likely to meet the needs of routing problems in real life.

Aiming at the characteristics of multi-dimensional production data, complicated sources and diverse data structures of metallurgy enterprises, it is of great significance to study how to use energy management-related data to predict metallurgy enterprises' energy consumption. Using with an accurate measurement method, the enterprises can not only reduce the cost of energy consumption but also develop economic efficiency in producing for metallurgy enterprises, which results in low energy use efficiency, high enterprise cost, and weak scalability. In this paper, we establish an LSTM model to achieve energy consumption prediction for metallurgy enterprises by optimizing the model's parameters using a grid search algorithm. We also compare our model's prediction results with other mainstream machine learning algorithms, i.e., MARS and SVM through indexes such as MSE, RMSE, MAPE, and MRAE to evaluate the prediction effect of the learning algorithm. According to our simulation, LSTM performs best in the task of energy consumption prediction. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this paper, we characterize the adaptive multiple path loss exponent (AMPLE) radio propagation model under urban macrocell (UMa) and urban microcell (UMi) scenarios from 0.85-5 GHz using Ranplan Professional. We first enhance the original AMPLE model by introducing an additional frequency coefficient to support path loss prediction across multiple carrier frequencies. By using measurement-validated Ranplan Professional simulator, we simulate four cities and validate the simulations for further path loss model characterization. Specifically, we extract the close-in (CI) model parameters from the simulations and compare them with parameters extracted from measurements in other works. Under the ray-based model characterization, we compare the AMPLE model with the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) path loss model, the CI model, the alpha-beta-gamma (ABG) model, and those with simulation calibrations. In addition to standard performance metrics, we introduce the prediction-measurement difference error (PMDE) to assess overall prediction alignment with measurement, and mean simulation time per data point to evaluate model complexity.
