Enabling Stateful TCP Performance Profiling with Key Event Capturing

TCP ensures reliable transmission through its stateful implementation and remains crucial today. TCP performance profiling is essential for tasks like diagnosing network performance problems, optimizing transmission performance, and developing new TCP variants, etc. Existing profiling methods lack enough attention to TCP state transition to provide detailed insights on TCP performance. Thus, we build TcpSight, a tool focusing on TCP state transition throughout connection lifetimes. TcpSight conducts stateful analysis by capturing key events using an efficient per-connection lock-free data management mechanism. Besides, TcpSight enhances profiling by integrating application layer information collected from the TCP stack. With the profiling results, users can identify the culprit of TCP performance degradation, and evaluate the performance of TCP algorithms. We design optional modules and filtering mechanisms to reduce TcpSights overhead. Our evaluation presents that TcpSight incurs an additional CPU consumption of about 16.6% (without filtering) and 10.6% (with filtering) when the server's load is 55.7%, and generates storage consumption about 1.88 KB per connection on average. We also give application cases of TcpSight and the deployment experiences in Alibaba Cloud. TcpSight helps in revealing meaningful findings and insights into exploiting TCP in the production deployment. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

This paper proposes a state observer and controller based on the second-order sliding mode scheme for under-actuated overhead cranes with load hoisting and lowering. The designed state observer can effectively estimate the uncertainty and unmodeled dynamics of crane systems, and provide appropriate driving force compensations for the sliding mode controller designed by coupling the load swing angle. This guarantees an accurate load positioning and residual swing elimination. Based on the Lyapunov stability criterion, the asymptotic stability of the control system is proved. Several simulations are implemented to verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed controller for anti-sway and positioning controls.

Energy interconnection system integrating “Internet+” has become a new developing form of energy industry with the increase of Chinese urbanization level. It features the characteristics of multiple energy entities interconnection and independent decision. The decision-making structure, requirements of massive data processing, real-time communication and privacy security prevent the further application of centralized optimization method based on independent decision-making entities. Additionally, the difference of optimization among the energy entities cannot be ignored in the distributed optimization application. Integrating the concepts of “cloud supervision” and “weak centralization”, this paper proposes a centralized distributed collaborative regulation and control architecture, and studies the decision-making method under this architecture to accelerate the local and global optimization. Based on this, this paper analyzes and summarizes the key technologies involved, including edge-cloud collaborative deployment mechanism, engineering data processing and service technology for energy interconnection system in new-type towns. The purpose is to provide a way to realize the optimal dispatch of energy interconnection system in new-type towns, and provide some suggestions for the development of energy interconnection system in new-type towns.

Evasion strategies of a three-player lifeline game

This study examines a multi-player pursuit-evasion game, more specifically, a three-player lifeline game in a planar environment, where a single evader is tasked with reaching a lifeline prior to capture. A decomposition method based on an explicit policy is proposed to address the game qualitatively from two main aspects:(1) the evader's position distribution to guarantee winning the game(i.e., the escape zone),which is based on the premise of knowing the pursuers' positions initially, and(2) evasion strategies in the escape zone. First, this study decomposes the three-player lifeline game into two two-player sub-games and obtains an analytic expression of the escape zone by constructing a barrier, which is an integration of the solutions of two sub-games. This study then explicitly partitions the escape zone into several regions and derives an evasion strategy for each region. In particular, this study provides a resultant force method for the evader to balance the active goal of reaching the lifeline and the passive goal of avoiding capture. Finally,some examples from a lifeline game involving more than one pursuer are used to verify the effectiveness and scalability of the evasion strategies.

Initialization is essential to monocular Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) problems. This paper focuses on a novel initialization method for monocular SLAM based on planar features. The algorithm starts by homography estimation in a sliding window. It then proceeds to a global plane optimization (GPO) to obtain camera poses and the plane normal. 3D points can be recovered using planar constraints without triangulation. The proposed method fully exploits the plane information from multiple frames and avoids the ambiguities in homography decomposition. We validate our algorithm on the collected chessboard dataset against baseline implementations and present extensive analysis. Experimental results show that our method outperforms the ne-tuned baselines in both accuracy and real-time.

Policy iteration based Q-learning for linear nonzero-sum quadratic differential games

In this paper, a policy iteration-based Q-learning algorithm is proposed to solve infinite horizon linear nonzero-sum quadratic differential games with completely unknown dynamics. The Q-learning algorithm, which employs off-policy reinforcement learning(RL), can learn the Nash equilibrium and the corresponding value functions online, using the data sets generated by behavior policies. First, we prove equivalence between the proposed off-policy Q-learning algorithm and an offline PI algorithm by selecting specific initially admissible polices that can be learned online. Then, the convergence of the off-policy Qlearning algorithm is proved under a mild rank condition that can be easily met by injecting appropriate probing noises into behavior policies. The generated data sets can be repeatedly used during the learning process, which is computationally effective. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed Q-learning algorithm.

Real-time and accurate water supply forecast is crucial for water supply control. However, most existing methods are likely affected by factors such as weather and holidays, which lead to a decline in the reliability of water supply prediction. In this paper, we address a generic artificial neural network, Initialized Attention Residual Network (IARN), to tackle the time series prediction problem in water supply domain. Specifically, instead of continuing to use the recurrent neural network (RNN) in time-series tasks, we try to build a convolution neural network (CNN) to recede the disturb from other factors and get a more credible results. Experiments show that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on several datasets in terms of accuracy, robustness and generalization ability. The paper discusses fuzzy comparison matrices, consistency check, weight prioritization methods and weight evaluation methods in fuzzy group analytic hierarchy process. There are various methods of weight prioritization, however, they are not critically evaluated. In the paper, two measures are introduced for the evaluation of the group weights. Then, a new method is proposed to improve the process of deriving weights and use it in an application compared to another common three methods. Our results show that the new method is a good method for deriving weights of indexes.

Water demand prediction is the key link for the effective operation of urban intelligent water supply system. Since the non-linearity and complex variability of water consumption, it is difficult for traditional water demand prediction models to guarantee high accuracy for a long period. Different holiday types and even tiny changes in temperatures can affect urban water demand seriously. This paper proposes a Stacking-based hybrid model which integrates multi-correction mechanisms to address these problems. A better stacking model is proposed to minimize the generalization error. The stability and reliability of predictions are improved through the design of multi-correction mechanisms such as high temperature weather compensation feature, holiday-type correction model and water quantity fluctuation correction model. Comparing different models before and after stacking also before and after correcting, the prediction accuracy of the proposed hybrid model is much higher and the predictions are more stable and reliable.
