The relentless attack of corrosion on metallic surfaces is a pervasive issue that compromises the structural integrity and operational efficiency of materials in numerous industrial applications. This research aims to enhance the corrosion resistance of metallic surfaces through the application of hydrophobic hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanosheets. The primary objectives of this research are to synthesize hydrophobic h-BN nanosheets (BNNS) and to evaluate the efficacy in providing corrosion protection to a variety of metallic substrates. By utilizing a mechanical exfoliation technique, the BNNS were derived from bulk h-BN, followed by a surface modification process to confer hydrophobicity. The synthesized BNNS underwent comprehensive characterization using an array of analytical tools to comprehensively assess the attributes of hydrophobic BNNS in enhancing the corrosion resistance of metallic surfaces. The corrosion resistance of metallic substrates was assessed by applying the BNNS-based coatings and subjecting them to a series of electrochemical tests and salt spray testing. The key findings of this research demonstrate a marked improvement in the corrosion resistance of metallic surfaces post-coating with hydrophobic BNNS. The hydrophobic nature of the BNNS exhibited a significant increase in hydrophobicity post-coating. Electrochemical tests revealed a positive shift in the corrosion potential and a reduction in the corrosion current density, signifying a diminished corrosion rate. By reducing the interaction between water and metal, the BNNS coatings act as a physical barrier, thereby hindering the electrochemical processes that precipitate corrosion. This study offers valuable insights into the development of advanced nanomaterial-based coatings for corrosion protection, with potential applications across various sectors, including aerospace, automotive, and civil infrastructure. © 2024, The Authors. In practical applications, the SAR image dataset is always insufficient and lacks sample diversity. Generative adversarial nets(GANs) have been widely used to address the problem of insufficient data. However, owing to no restriction on input noise, the generated images are highly random and lack diversity. The paper proposes a data augmentation method based on the information maximizing GAN to generate samples purposefully. The proposed method is realized by using information-theoretic to extend the GAN, maximizing the mutual information between the observations and a fixed subset of noise variables. Finally, it finds out a highly semantic and meaningful hidden representation information in the SAR image and thus increases the sample diversity. The experiment results based on the MSTAD data illustrate the proposed method can effectively improve the robustness and accuracy of the classifier especially for the limited training dataset. ©2021 IEEE

In this study, we present a new three-stage forming and two-stage heating forming process to improve the forming quality of tubing end upsetting. The forming process of the new process is studied by numerical simulation, and the best forming process parameters are obtained. The experimental device is designed, and the experimental results verify the accuracy of the simulation results. Through this process, the quality of the transition zone can be guaranteed while the concave defects of the inner wall can be eliminated, which has certain guiding significance for the actual production. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Metal corrosion incurs substantial economic and safety costs in industry, necessitating effective protective materials. Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanosheets, with their chemical stability and hydrophobicity, are an ideal choice for metal surface protection. However, optimizing their hydrophobic properties remains challenging. This study introduces an explainable AI-driven machine learning model to explore the impact of synthesis variables like temperature, heating time, and additive ratio on h-BN nanosheets' hydrophobicity. The model, with 82% accuracy, identified key variables and their nonlinear relationships, optimizing the nanosheets' hydrophobicity. By evaluating 687,500 conditions, AI-selected strategies significantly enhanced hydrophobicity, verified experimentally. This research underscores AI's potential in materials science, offering a new approach to developing advanced metal protective materials with theoretical and practical implications. © 2024, The Authors. Commutation failure is a typical fault that occurs in the inverter valves of the HVDC transmission system. Continuous commutation failure will lead to serious results to the power system especially in multi-infeed HVDC power transmission system. In this paper, a novel control method to mitigate commutation failure in HVDC systems due to voltage dips caused by AC system faults is proposed. This detection method is based on instantaneous values of the thyristor voltage and it is realized by Thyristor Triggering and Monitoring (TTM) device and valve base electronics (VBE), which makes the control system react quickly and detect commutation failure with high-precision. After detecting the commutation failure, the firing angle at the inverter station is reduced by a certain angle to extend the commutation margin. The proposed commutation failure mitigation method is tested in various fault simulation using the PSCAD/EMTDC software. A single-infeed HVDC transmission system is created to test the method's effectiveness and a two-infeed HVDC transmission system is developed to study the method's performance in the multi-infeed HVDC transmission system. The test results demonstrate that the proposed method is highly effective in mitigating the continuous commutation failure in both the single-infeed and multi-infeed HVDC transmission system. © The Institution of Engineering and technology.

Relay-assisted D2D communication can expand the communication range and improve the spectrum efficiency. However, most relay selection algorithms only consider single-hop information between transmitter and relay. To obtain better communication quality, we propose an Improved Relay Selection Strategy based on the Two-hop Social Relationship which not only considers the social relationship of transmitter-to-relay, but also the social relationship of relay-to-receiver. Besides, we combine the social awareness and channel state information to define the social relationship. The strategy determines the candidate relays according to the maximum D2D communication distance firstly, and then selects the optimal relay among candidate ones based on Two-hop Social Relationship (THSR). The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the system throughput. ©2021 IEEE
