A rear-end collision risk assessment model based on drivers’ collision avoidance process under influences of cell phone use and gender—A driving simulator based study

Driver's collision avoidance performance has a direct link to the collision risk and crash severity. Previous studies demonstrated that the distracted driving, such as using a cell phone while driving, disrupted the driver's performance on road. This study aimed to investigate the manner and extent to which cell phone use and driver's gender affected driving performance and collision risk in a rear-end collision avoidance process. Forty-two licensed drivers completed the driving simulation experiment in three phone use conditions: no phone use, hands-free, and hand-held, in which the drivers drove in a car-following situation with potential rear-end collision risks caused by the leading vehicle's sudden deceleration. Based on the experiment data, a rear-end collision risk assessment model was developed to assess the influence of cell phone use and driver's gender. The cell phone use and driver's gender were found to be significant factors that affected the braking performances in the rear-end collision avoidance process, including the brake reaction time, the deceleration adjusting time and the maximum deceleration rate. The minimum headway distance between the leading vehicle and the simulator during the rear-end collision avoidance process was the final output variable, which could be used to measure the rear-end collision risk and judge whether a collision occurred. The results showed that although cell phone use drivers took some compensatory behaviors in the collision avoidance process to reduce the mental workload, the collision risk in cell phone use conditions was still higher than that without the phone use. More importantly, the results proved that the hands-free condition did not eliminate the safety problem associated with distracted driving because it impaired the driving performance in the same way as much as the use of hand-held phones. BACKGROUND:Distinction between pre-microRNAs (precursor microRNAs) and length-similar pseudo pre-microRNAs can reveal more about the regulatory mechanism of RNA biological processes. Machine learning techniques have been widely applied to deal with this challenging problem. However, most of them mainly focus on secondary structure information of pre-microRNAs, while ignoring sequence-order information and sequence evolution information. RESULTS:We use new features for the machine learning algorithms to improve the classification performance by characterizing both sequence order evolution information and secondary structure graphs. We developed three steps to extract these features of pre-microRNAs. We first extract features from PSI-BLAST profiles and Hilbert-Huang transforms, which contain rich sequence evolution information and sequence-order information respectively. We then obtain properties of small molecular networks of pre-microRNAs, which contain refined secondary structure information. These structural features are carefully generated so that they can depict both global and local characteristics of pre-microRNAs. In total, our feature space covers 591 features. The maximum relevance and minimum redundancy (mRMR) feature selection method is adopted before support vector machine (SVM) is applied as our classifier. The constructed classification model is named MicroRNA -NHPred. The performance of MicroRNA -NHPred is high and stable, which is better than that of those state-of-the-art methods, achieving an accuracy of up to 94.83% on same benchmark datasets. CONCLUSIONS:The high prediction accuracy achieved by our proposed method is attributed to the design of a comprehensive feature set on the sequences and secondary structures, which are capable of characterizing the sequence evolution information and sequence-order information, and global and local information of pre-microRNAs secondary structures. Employing the relativized quark model and the quark-interchange model, we investigate the decay of the charged heavy quarkonium-like states Zc(3900), Zc(4020), Zc(4430), Zb(10610) and Zb(10650) into the ground and radially excited heavy quarkonia via emitting a pion meson. The Zc and Zb states are assumed to be hadronic molecules composed of open-flavor heavy mesons. The calculated decay ratios can be compared with the experimental data, which are useful in judging whether the molecule state assignment for the corresponding Zc or Zb state is reasonable or not. The theoretical framework constructed in this work will be helpful in revealing the underlying structures of some exotic hadrons. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Deuteron-like states composed of two doubly charmed baryons

We present a systematic investigation of the possible molecular states composed of a pair of doubly charmed baryons (ΞccΞcc) or one doubly charmed baryon and one doubly charmed antibaryon (ΞccΞ¯cc) within the framework of the one-boson-exchange-potential model. For the spin-triplet systems, we take into account the mixing between the S31 and D31 channels. For the baryon-baryon system ΞccΞcc with (R,I)=(3¯,1/2) and (3¯,0), where R and I represent the group representation and the isospin of the system, respectively, there exist loosely bound molecular states. For the baryon-antibaryon system ΞccΞ¯cc with (R,I)=(8,1), (8,1/2) and (8,0), there also exist deuteron-like molecules. The BccB¯cc molecular states may be produced at LHC. The proximity of their masses to the threshold of two doubly charmed baryons provides a clean clue to identify them.

In this work, a many-body potential of Nb for radiation damage simulation was developed based on embedded-atom-method (EAM), and most of the point defects of Nb can be predicted properly by this potential. By using the constructed potential, the direction-specific threshold displacement energies (TDE) and displacement cascades up to 20 keV of Nb were performed through molecular dynamics simulations. The calculated results of TDE are in good agreement with previous work for V, Mo and experimental measurements. Lowest TDE was found in direction, and local minas of TDE were found in three low-index directions, which has relation:E[100]dE[111]dE[110]d. The evolution of displacement cascades, number of the created point defects, the cascade efficiency the clustering of point defects, and temperature role of these parameters at different PKA energies were systematic investigated. It is found that the cascade efficiency is low and it is can be fitted by a power function as many published work did. The fraction of clustered point defects obtained in this work is low, and only some small clusters were formed at the end of thermal spike. As the temperature increases, the productions of point defects and cascade efficiency were somewhat decreases, however, the fraction of clustered point defects decreases more obvious. Influence of Low-Level Anionic Surfactant on PES Ultrafiltration Performance: Membrane Fouling and Rejection of Nuclides

Surfactants always play a special role in wastewater processes due to their amphiphilic properties. The performance of ultrafiltration was investigated for the treatment of wastewater containing low-level anionic surfactant and trace-level nuclides. Results showed that sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) below the critical micelle concentration (CMC) caused significant effects on membrane fouling and rejection of nuclides. The membrane flux decreased at SDBS concentrations below the CMC but increased at the concentrations near the CMC. The phenomenon was caused by two distinct effects of SDBS, pore blocking by the monomers and enhancement of nuclide scaling caused a decrease in flux, while hydrophilic modification of the membrane surface by micelles caused an increase in flux. The nuclides alone had no significant effect on membrane fouling, but the flux decreased upon an increase in nuclide concentration when coexisting with SDBS. After the addition of low-level SDBS, the rejections of nuclides increased sharply from 20–30 to 60–98 %. The rejections of Sr(II) and Co(II) were higher than those of Ag(I) and Cs(I) due to stronger complexation of SDBS with divalent cations compared with monovalent cations. Deposition of nuclides increased with the addition of SDBS and with increasing of nuclide concentration, resulting in more radioactive solid waste production and more frequent replacement of membrane module. © 2016, Springer International Publishing Switzerland.

Effective field theory for collective rotations and vibrations of triaxially deformed nuclei

The effective field theory (EFT) for triaxially deformed even-even nuclei is generalized to include the vibrational degrees of freedom. The pertinent Hamiltonian is constructed up to next-to-leading order. The leading order part describes the vibrational motion, and the NLO part couples rotations to vibrations. The applicability of the EFT Hamiltonian is examined through the description of the energy spectra of the ground state bands, γ-bands, and K = 4 bands in the 108,110,112Ru isotopes. It is found that by taking into account the vibrational degrees of freedom, the deviations for high-spin states in the γ-band observed in the EFT with only rotational degrees of freedom disappear. This supports the importance of including vibrational degrees of freedom in the EFT formulation for the collective motion of triaxially deformed nuclei. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. Robust optimization design of the Mars airbag lander

Mars airbag lander was a complex structure with many critical parameters, extreme environment conditions, many uncertain factors and high reliability requirements. Computational efficiency of simulation was always a bottleneck problem in the processes of optimization design for the Mars airbag landers. Based on parallel and distributed computing technologies of super computing platforms and the multi-objective robust optimization method, a robust optimization design for the complex airbag system was carried out. The results show that the applications of supercomputer platform may greatly improve the robust optimization's computational efficiency in the optimization design, and the reliability of the Mars airbag lander will be highly improved. © 2017, Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society. Possible hadronic molecules composed of the doubly charmed baryon and nucleon

We perform a systematical investigation of the possible deuteron-like bound states with configuration ccN( -N ), where N( -N ) denotes the nucleon (anti-nucleon), in the framework of the one-bosonexchange-potential model. In the spin-triplet sector we take into account both the 3S1 and 3D1 channels due to non-vanishing tensor force. There exist several candidates of the loosely bound molecular states for the ccN and cc -N systems, which lie below the threshold of Λc Λc or Λc Λ-c. We also investigate the possible loosely bound states with configurations ΛcN( -N ) and ΣcN( -N ). These molecular candidates may be searched for at Belle II and LHC in the near future.
