We analyze the effects of the Zb states in the dipion transitions from the ϒ(3S,4S) to the lower ϒ states. It is found that the Zb’s, together with the properly treated ππ final-state interaction, are essential to reproduce the double-bump structure in the dipion invariant mass distribution of the ϒ(3S) →ϒ(1S)ππ transitions. We also point out that a reliable extraction of the Zbϒ(nS)π coupling constants is crucial to finally settle the Zb contributions to these transitions. © Copyright owned by the author(s).

Effect of gamma-ray irradiation at low doses on the performance of PES ultrafiltration membrane

The influence of gamma irradiation on the performance of polyether sulfone (PES) ultrafiltration (UF) membrane was investigated at low absorbed doses (0-75 kGy) using a cobalt source. The performance of the UF membranes was tested using low level radioactive wastewater (LLRW) containing three types of surfactants (anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants). The physical and chemical properties of membrane surface were analyzed, and relationships between these properties and separation performance and fouling characteristics were determined. At 10-75 kGy irradiation, there were no significant changes observed in the membrane surface roughness or polymer functional groups, however the contact angle decreased sharply from 92° to ca. 70° at irradiation levels as low as 10 kGy. When membranes were exposed to the surfactant-containing LLRW, the flux decreased more sharply for higher dosed irradiated membranes, while flux in virgin membranes increased during the filtration processes. The study highlights that fouling properties of membrane may be changed due to the changes of surface hydrophilicity at low dose irradiation, while other surface properties and retentions remain stable. Therefore, a membrane fouling test with real or simulated wastewater is recommended to fully evaluate the membrane irradiation resistance. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd.

Due to the peculiarities of pebble-bed high temperature reactor (HTR), especially the movable core and double heterogeneity characteristics, a reliable uncertainty evaluation method that can take these peculiarities into account is urgently needed. In our work, the VSOP program is used for its effective treatments on the particularity of the pebble-bed HTR and the statistical sampling method is applied to quantify uncertainty propagation in the VSOP model. Since an on-line spectral calculation strategy without separable assembly spectral calculation is used in VSOP, the uncertainty propagation from nuclear data to core effective multiplication factor and power distribution can be directly evaluated. The results are compared to those of SCALE TSUNAMI-3D module for verification. Although the difference of keff between VSOP and TSUNAMI-3D calculation is ∼10%, primarily due to the lack of double heterogeneity treatment in TSUNAMI-3D, the uncertainty results obtained from the two calculations are in good agreement. In addition, the Direct Numerical Perturbation method is used to perform sensitivity analysis and the resulting sensitivity coefficients are consistent. The method proposed in this paper could be used to directly evaluate the effect of nuclear data uncertainty on core key parameters and to help determine pebble-bed HTR design margins.

To test the software and hardware functions of VSC-HVDC control and protection device, an efficient way is to carry out the hardware-in-loop (HIL) tests and setup a detailed AC/DC transient model in real-time digital simulator. However, taking into account capability of the simulator and details of the simulation, the large scale AC network outside the converters should be simplified and equivalent. In this paper, based on a principle that the short circuit levels should be consistent before and after equivalent, a new equivalent method to calculate the equivalent generator parameters for large scale AC power system is proposed. Firstly, rated capacity and access reactance of equivalent generators are calculated according to equivalent bus's short-current. Secondly, a new criterion is provided based on short-current contribution ratio, according to short-current and short-reactance of the equivalent bus. Finally, this criterion is used to choose dominate controller of the equivalent generators, and calculate controller parameters. At the same time, the Ward method is improved. The negative line resistance and generator active output are corrected. Finally, the proposed method is used for Xiamen equivalent grid which derived from a large scale of “Sanhua” China power grids and validated by comparison of the bus voltages, power flows, short-circuit levels and the dynamic response characteristics of the equivalent network, the validity of the proposed method is proved.

Security issue in Internet of Things (IoTs) has long been the topic of extensive research in the last decade. Data encryption and authentication are the most common two methods to address the security issues in IoTs. However, these efforts are ineffective in detecting the diverse malicious attacks, especially in intrusion detection. Comparatively, very few attentions have been paid for detecting intrusive nodes in IoTs research. Therefore, in this paper, we derive an innovative method called granulometric size distribution (GSD) method based on mathematical morphology for detecting malicious attack in IoTs, such as intrusion detection. We successfully generate GSD clusters to directly monitor the number of active nodes in a wireless sensor network because the GSD curves are similar when the number of active nodes in a wireless sensor network is fixed. Link Quality Indicator data of each node are utilized as the network parameters in this method. The results show the effectiveness in intrusion detection. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Large-strain deformation by single electroplastic rolling （EPR） was imposed on AZ31 magnesium alloy strips. During EPR at low temperature （150-250℃）, numerous twins formed in the alloy. After EPR at a high temperature （350℃）, the number of twins reduced and some dynamic recrystallization （DRX） grains formed at grain boundaries and twinned regions. The synergic thermal and athermal effects generated by electropulsing, which promoted dislocation motion, induced a few small DRX grains, and ductile bandings were mainly re- sponsible for large-strain deformation during EPR. The inclination angle of the basal pole stemmed from the counterbalance of the inclina- tion direction of the basal pole between the DRX grains and deformed coarse grains.

Laser micro cladding deposition manufacturing(Ll CDM) is a newly developed rapid manufacturing method for *** Ll CDM technology adopts a novel powder feeding method based on alternating friction and inertia force, and this powder feeding method can effectively improve the accuracy and orientation of the powder injection, resulting in a smaller molten pool size and a higher cooling rate of liquid ***, the components fabricated by Ll CDM could obtain the finer microstructures and the improved mechanical *** is found that the components fabricated by Ll CDM are fully dense free of cracks or pores and exhibit columnar prior b grains with a finer acicular a0 phase *** microhardness(HV0.2) of the thin-wall component is HV 400–HV 500 in the majority part of the cross section and can reach about HV 850 in the top *** ultimate tensile strength(UTS) and elongation show insignificant dependence on the testing directions of the *** UTS is between 1,002 and 1,100 MPa, and the elongation is between 10.0 % and 14.7 %.

Objectives: The 12-item Self-Compassion Scale–Short Form (SCS–SF) is a widely used instrument for the assessment of self-compassion. To date, there have been few examinations of this instrument’s psychometric properties, particularly across nations and languages. Therefore, we used data from the Body Image in Nature Survey (BINS) to assess measurement invariance of the SCS–SF across nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups. Methods: Participants (N = 56,968) from 65 nations completed the SCS–SF in 40 languages. Using these data, we tested various hypothesised models of the SCS–SF in the total sample and, using multi-group confirmatory factor analysis, tested for invariance of the optimal model across national groups, languages, gender identities, and age groups. Results: In the total dataset, we found that an 11-item, 2-factor model (i.e., SCS-11) provided best fit to the data, with the two factors tapping distinct constructs of compassionate and uncompassionate self-responding. The SCS-11 was found to be partially scalar invariant across national groups and languages, and fully scalar invariant across gender identities and age groups. There was wide variation in latent means for the two factors, particularly across national groups and languages. Further analyses showed negligible associations between the two factors and sociodemographic variables, including marital status, financial security, and urbanicity. Conclusions: Our results suggest that it may be possible to derive a stable 2-factor model of the SCS–SF for use in cross-cultural research, but also highlight the likelihood of cross-national and cross-linguistic variations in the way that self-compassion is understood. © The Author(s) 2025.

HVDC transmission has become the most valuable engineering technology because of its own advantages. But the rapid detection and isolation of DC side faults has been one of the major technical matters in the development of DC grids. Highvoltage DC circuit breaker is an important equipment to solve this problem, and becomes the current research hotspot. According to the process of HVDC breaker, this paper analyzes the fault detection and current limiting control of HVDC breakers, and proposes a fault detection method based on ROCOV (Rate Of Change Of Voltage) and a current limiting strategy of operation of arresters by sequence. It can reduce the operation time of the circuit breaker and the peak value of the fault current. Finally, simulation analysis is performed on the PSCAD/EMTDC to verify the correctness of the method.
