Construction of Fe/Ag galvanic couple by mechanochemical in-situ reduced Ag to accelerate the degradation of Fe-based implant

Orthopedic applications of Fe have been hindered by the insufficient degradation *** with noble elements(such as Ag,Au,and Pt)to generate galvanic couples is a feasible ***,the direct preparation of homogenous alloys by mechanical alloying or metallurgy is difficult because of the differences in strength,density,and *** this study,Ag_(2)O was selected as the precursor phase for incorporation into Fe to achieve a homogeneous distribution of Ag,which was then reduced in situ to Ag via a mechanochemical reduction reaction during mechanical *** composite powders were printed as implants by selective laser melting,where a fast cooling rate contributed to the retention of the phase distribution of the obtained *** electrochemical tests showed that the Fe-Ag_(2)O implant had a high corrosion current density(21.88±0.12μA/cm^(2))and instantaneous corrosion rate(0.23±0.05 mm/year).Moreover,the implant exhibited a faster degradation rate(0.22 mm/year)than Fe(0.15 mm/year)and Fe-Ag(0.21 mm/year)after immersion for 28 *** acceleration mechanism of the implant could be attributed to the uniformly distributed Ag particles triggering many galvanic couples with the Fe grains,which was confirmed by the observation of the corrosion *** addition,the composite implants exhibited good biocompatibility and antibacterial properties.

In bone tissue engineering,good structural and forming qualities are prerequisites for the long-term implantation of *** mitigate the stress-shielding effect between porous bone scaffolds and the human skeleton,this study proposes a method for designing non-linear gradient gyroid porous structures with radial-axial hybrid gra-dients that are precisely controlled by multivariate polynomial functions to simulate human bone *** influence of the volumetric energy density on the forming quality of the porous structures was evaluated by characterizing the internal strut morphology and measuring the strut width and *** element analysis combined with experimental observations revealed that during compression,the thin struts at the top and bottom of the hybrid-gradient porous structure deformed first,and the compressive stress and shear stress were gradually transferred from the thin struts at the upper and lower ends of the structure to the thicker struts in the *** with the axial gradient,the edge struts of the hybrid-gradient porous structures can withstand higher shear and compressive ***,owing to the variation in the radial gradient,compared to struc-tures with 20%axial porosity variation,the hybrid-gradient porous structure with 40%radial porosity variation and 20%axial porosity variation exhibited an 18.10%increase in elastic modulus and a 4.29%increase in yield ***,its effective energy absorption was 20.39%higher than that of the homogeneous *** to radial-gradient porous structures,the hybrid-gradient porous structure showed a lower sensitivity of the elastic modulus and yield strength to the volumetric energy density.

Implant denture is the most essential method of oral repair, and its processing depends heavily on the precision machining center. Most special denture machine tools do not take into account the requirement of automatic machining of parts. During processing, the parts need to be double-clamped, which changes the geometry of the parts. In this paper, a small special machine tool with seven axes has been developed to realize the automatic processing of implant dentures. Firstly, the processing technology of implant dentures is introduced, and the function of a special machine tool is analyzed. Then, the mechanical structure of the machine tool is established. It has seven moving axes and two cylinders, with the capability of five-axis linkage and combined turning and milling. Uniquely, it has a backside machining unit, which allows the entire automated machining process to be completed after only one clamping. The topological movement chain of the machine tool under different working modes is introduced emphatically. The results show that the machine structure can satisfy the automatic machining process of denture parts. Meanwhile, the spatial geometric error model under each topology is established, which provides a theoretical basis for the error compensation of the machine tools. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The silicone resin-modified epoxy resin-based flame retardant thermal insulation coating was prepared from epoxy resin as the main film-forming agent, silicone resin diluted with isopropanol as a copolymerization modifier, ammonium polyphosphate (APP) as dehydration catalyst, melamine (MEL) as foaming agent, pentaerythritol (PER) as char forming agent, and palygorskite and sepiolite as fillers. The effect of silicone resin on the flame retardancy, physicochemical properties and mechanical properties of the coatings were investigated by large plate combustion, ultimate limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical combustion, cone calorimetry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier infrared analysis, thermogravimetric differential scanning calorimetry analysis, N2 absorption and desorption test, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and tensile, flexural, compressive strength tests. The addition of silicone resin not only accelerated the thermal reaction of the coating when exposed to heat, but also improved the thermal stability and oxidation resistance of the coating. The silica generated by the decomposition of silicone resin not only increased the residual char content of the coating but also optimized the structure of the coating. The surface of residual char was denser, and the internal pore structure was finer and high-density, which effectively reduced the smoke emission of the coating, enhanced the anti-ablation effect, improved the insulation effect, and increased the mechanical performance. Through comprehensive comparison, when the amount of silicone resin added was 20wt.%, the performance of E80S20 coating was the best. After 2h of butane flame ablation, the backside temperature was just 198.8 C with no molten pits. The peak heat release rate (PHRR), total heat release (THR), total smoke production (TSP), and peak smoke production rate (PSPR) were significantly improved, with 17.3%, 33.8%, 32.0%, and 49.2% lower than those of blank sample E10S0. Natural selection has driven arthropods to evolve fantastic natural compound eyes(NCEs)with a unique anatomical structure,providing a promising blueprint for artificial compound eyes(ACEs)to achieve static and dynamic perceptions in complex ***,each NCE utilises an array of ommatidia,the imaging units,distributed on a curved surface to enable abundant *** has inspired the development of many ACEs using various microlens arrays,but the reported ACEs have limited performances in static imaging and motion ***,it is challenging to mimic the apposition modality to effectively transmit light rays collected by many microlenses on a curved surface to a flat imaging sensor chip while preserving their spatial relationships without *** this study,we integrate 271 lensed polymer optical fibres into a dome-like structure to faithfully mimic the structure of *** ACE has several parameters comparable to the NCEs:271 ommatidia versus 272 for bark beetles,and 180° field of view(FOV)versus 150–180° FOV for most *** addition,our ACE outperforms the typical NCEs by~100 times in dynamic response:31.3 kHz versus 205 Hz for Glossina *** with other reported ACEs,our ACE enables real-time,180° panoramic direct imaging and depth estimation within its nearly infinite depth of ***,our ACE can respond to an angular motion up to 5.6×10^(6)deg/s with the ability to identify translation and rotation,making it suitable for applications to capture high-speed objects,such as surveillance,unmanned aerial/ground vehicles,and virtual reality.

The multi-bolt joints has been widely used in many industries. A few bolts looseness may gradually lead to structure failures and catastrophic consequences if undetected. In this paper, a bolt looseness location identification method using band-limited intrinsic multiscale entropy analysis and convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed. First, different from the traditional excitation signals, the chaotic ultrasonic signals are used as excitation signals to obtain high-frequency nonlinear responses of bolt joint. Then, the response signal received by the sensing piezoelectric patch is decomposed by variational mode decomposition to obtain band-limited intrinsic modal functions (BLIMFs). Each BLIMF is an amplitude-modulated-frequency-modulated signals, which carries the protentional bolt looseness information. The multiscale sample entropy values of each BLIMF are calculated to construct a feature matrix containing the looseness feature of each signal component in the multiscale. Finally, the looseness feature matrixes are transferred to CNN for training a classifier to identify which bolt is loose. To verify the proposed method, an experiment with piezoelectric active sensing is designed. The bolt looseness in different positions is controlled by loosening one or more M1 bolts which are mounted on an aluminum alloy plate. The experimental result shows that all loosened bolts at different locations are effectively identified, which verify the validity of the proposed method in this paper. © 2022 IEEE.

Machine tools play a vital role in the manufacturing industry and their wide application leads to high energy consumption. Considering energy saving and emission reduction, it becomes particularly important to reduce the energy consumption of machine tools while improving processing efficiency. Selecting appropriate milling parameters while optimizing the processing power and efficiency of the machine tools is a challenge. In this paper, an adaptive multi-objective differential evolutionary PSO based on analytic hierarchy process (AMDEPSO) is proposed to optimize the two objectives. Firstly, an accurate multi-objective optimization model integrating the processing power and time of machine tools is established. In order to solve this optimization model, this study sets adaptive weights based on PSO and incorporates the differential evolution (DE) method to update particles in the local search. Subsequently, the Pareto solution set is filtered to obtain the optimal solution through analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Finally, the algorithm is verified by processing experiments, and compared with the two existing methods, the proposed method effectively reduces the processing power and improves the processing efficiency. Combining the relationship between the two optimization objectives, it can be obtained that the algorithm reduces the machining energy consumption by 45.58% and 47.15% respectively. High-temperature nickel-based alloy Inconel 718 is a commonly used material in aerospace, ships, heat exchangers, turbines, storage tanks and other fields because of its good physical and chemical properties, and is usually widely used in the manufacture of aero-engine blisks, blades and other key components. In this paper, the temperature field of the material is analyzed. First, through the simulation, observe the influence law of the laser on the temperature field distribution of the material, and through the experimental comparison, the validity of the laser parameters is verified. The surface quality of the workpieces of conventional cutting and laser-assisted cutting is analyzed, and the advantages of laser-assisted machining are obtained. © 2022 IEEE.

Influence of crevice width on sulfate-reducing bacteria(SRB)-induced corrosion of stainless steel 316L

In the present work, the distribution of sulfate-reducing-bacteria(SRB) inside the crevice and the effect of crevice width on SRB-induced corrosion of stainless steel 316L(SS 316L) were systematically investigated. A cambered crevice configuration consisting of a convex lens and a wire beam electrode(WBE) was employed to measure the current and potential distributions under different crevice widths. Subsequently, scanning electronic microscopy(SEM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) were adopted to study SRB-induced corrosion behavior of SS 316L in different crevice locations. Results show that crevice width plays an essential role in corrosion on SS 316L in crevice environment with SRB. The most severe corrosion with dense pits occurred at the crevices with 150 μm in width due to the combined effects of microbiological corrosion and crevice corrosion. In narrow crevices, corrosion is much slighter since SRB can hardly enter into the crevices to induce corrosion. In contrast, the crevices with 700 μm in width suffer the mildest corrosion because the influence of crevice corrosion is negligible with a weakened crevice corrosion tendency. Additionally, it was found that SRB could affect the composition of the passive film and destroy its compactness, thus accelerate the crevice corrosion of SS 316L in artificial seawater. The findings of this work are beneficial to understanding the mechanisms of MIC-induced corrosion in various environments.
