A measurement of the associated production of a top-quark pair (tt¯) with a vector boson (W, Z) in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is presented, using 36.1 fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events are selected in channels with two same- or opposite-sign leptons (electrons or muons), three leptons or four leptons, and each channel is further divided into multiple regions to maximize the sensitivity of the measurement. The tt¯Z and tt¯W production cross sections are simultaneously measured using a combined fit to all regions. The best-fit values of the production cross sections are σtt¯Z=0.95±0.08stat±0.10syst pb and σtt¯W=0.87±0.13stat±0.14syst pb in agreement with the Standard Model predictions. The measurement of the tt¯Z cross section is used to set constraints on effective field theory operators which modify the tt¯Z vertex.

This paper presents a measurement of quantities related to the formation of jets from high-energy quarks and gluons (fragmentation). Jets with transverse momentum 100 GeV b−1 of s=13 TeV proton-proton collisions are reconstructed with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Charged-particle tracks with pT>500 MeV and |η|<2.5 are used to probe the detailed structure of the jet. The fragmentation properties of the more forward and the more central of the two leading jets from each event are studied. The data are unfolded to correct for detector resolution and acceptance effects. Comparisons with parton shower Monte Carlo generators indicate that existing models provide a reasonable description of the data across a wide range of phase space, but there are also significant differences. Furthermore, the data are interpreted in the context of quark- and gluon-initiated jets by exploiting the rapidity dependence of the jet flavor fraction. A first measurement of the charged-particle multiplicity using model-independent jet labels (topic modeling) provides a promising alternative to traditional quark and gluon extractions using input from simulation. The simulations provide a reasonable description of the quark-like data across the jet pT range presented in -this measurement, but the gluon-like data have systematically fewer charged particles than the simulation.

Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is one of the prominent technologies in the wireless network field. The main goal of WMN is to serve the large community of users with available bandwidth. Hyacinth multichannel architecture is preferable solution for WMN to lever the substantial data and to employ the bandwidth efficiently. The performance of WMN is also depending on the routing protocol to forward the data in the network. The AODV is the most common routing protocol of wireless network technologies and it uses hop count as routing metric. This traditional routing metric is incapable to perform well in multichannel environment. Weighted Cumulative Expected Transmission Time (WCETT) routing metric is well suited for multichannel WMN. In this paper we analyze the performance of Hybrid Multichannel WMN. Two channels are assigned to the nodes and IEEE 802.11 channel assignment strategy is used by HMWMN. Throughput and drop of packets parameters are compared with single channel WMN and HMWMN by varying packet size. We conduct the Chi square test to show the relationship between packet size and throughput. Our results show that HMWMN improves the throughput by 46% and minimizes the drop of packets by 62% than the single channel. HMWMN uses WCETT routing metrics and it is compared against hop count by varying the size of network. Outcomes illustrate that HMWMN has better throughput and End-to-end delay even for large WMN.

In this paper we discuss a GPU implementation of a hybrid deterministic/Monte Carlo method for the solution of the neutron transport equation. The key feature is using GPUs to perform a Monte Carlo transport sweep as part of the evaluation of the nonlinear residual and Jacobianvector product. We describe the algorithm and present some preliminary numerical results which illustrate the effectiveness of the GPU Monte Carlo sweeps.

A search for the narrow structure, X(5568), reported by the D0 Collaboration in the decay sequence X→bs0π±, bs0→J/ψϕ, is presented. The analysis is based on a data sample recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC corresponding to 4.9 fb−1 of pp collisions at 7 TeV and 19.5 fb−1 at 8 TeV. No significant signal was found. Upper limits on the number of signal events, with properties corresponding to those reported by D0, and on the X production rate relative to bs0 mesons, ρX, were determined at 95% confidence level. The results are N(X)<382 and ρX<0.015 for bs0 mesons with transverse momenta above 10 GeV, and N(X)<356 and ρX<0.016 for transverse momenta above 15 GeV. Limits are also set for potential bs0π± resonances in the mass range 5550 to 5700 MeV.

Jet substructure observables have significantly extended the search program for physics beyond the standard model at the Large Hadron Collider. The state-of-the-art tools have been motivated by theoretical calculations, but there has never been a direct comparison between data and calculations of jet substructure observables that are accurate beyond leading-logarithm approximation. Such observables are significant not only for probing the collinear regime of QCD that is largely unexplored at a hadron collider, but also for improving the understanding of jet substructure properties that are used in many studies at the Large Hadron Collider. This Letter documents a measurement of the first jet substructure quantity at a hadron collider to be calculated at next-to-next-to-leading-logarithm accuracy. The normalized, differential cross section is measured as a function of log10ρ2, where ρ is the ratio of the soft-drop mass to the ungroomed jet transverse momentum. This quantity is measured in dijet events from 32.9 fb−1 of s=13 TeV proton-proton collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector. The data are unfolded to correct for detector effects and compared to precise QCD calculations and leading-logarithm particle-level Monte Carlo simulations.

A search for high-mass resonances decaying to τν using proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV produced by the Large Hadron Collider is presented. Only τ-lepton decays with hadrons in the final state are considered. The data were recorded with the ATLAS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1. No statistically significant excess above the standard model expectation is observed; model-independent upper limits are set on the visible τν production cross section. Heavy W′ bosons with masses less than 3.7 TeV in the sequential standard model and masses less than 2.2–3.8 TeV depending on the coupling in the nonuniversal G(221) model are excluded at the 95% credibility level.
