Simultaneous measurements of the tt¯, W+W−, and Z/γ*→ττ production cross-sections using an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb.1 of pp collisions at s=7 TeV collected b. the ATLAS detector at the LHC are presented. Events are selected with two high transverse momentum leptons consisting of an oppositely charged electron and muon pair. The three processes are separated using the distrib.tions of the missing transverse momentum of events with zero and greater than zero jet multiplicities. Measurements of the fiducial cross-section are presented along with results that quantify for the first time the underlying correlations in the predicted and measured cross-sections due to proton parton distrib.tion functions. These results indicate that the correlated next-to-leading-order predictions for tt¯ and Z/γ*→ττ underestimate the data, while those at next-to-next-to-leading-order generally describ. the data well. The full cross-sections are measured to b. σ(tt¯)=181.2±2.8−9.5+9.7±3.3±3.3 pb. σ(W+W−)=53.3±2.7−8.0+7.3±1.0±0.5 pb. and σ(Z/γ*→ττ)=1174±24−87+72±21±9 pb. where the cited uncertainties are due to statistics, systematic effects, luminosity and the LHC b.am energy measurement, respectively. The W+W− measurement includes the small contrib.tion from Higgs b.son decays, H→W+W−.

A measurement is presented of the tt¯ inclusive production cross section in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=8 TeV using data collected b. the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The measurement was performed in the lepton+jets final state using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb.1. The cross section was ob.ained using a likelihood discriminant fit and b.jet identification was used to improve the signal-to-b.ckground ratio. The inclusive tt¯ production cross section was measured to b. 260±1(stat)−23+22(stat)±8(lumi)±4(b.am) pb.assuming a top-quark mass of 172.5 GeV, in good agreement with the theoretical prediction of 253−15+13 pb. The tt¯→(e,μ)+jets production cross section in the fiducial region determined b. the detector acceptance is also reported.

A search for the decay to a pair of new particles of either the 125 GeV Higgs b.son (h) or a second charge parity (CP)-even Higgs b.son (H) is presented. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb.1 of pp collisions at s=8 TeV recorded b. the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2012. The search was done in the context of the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model, in which the new particles are the lightest neutral pseudoscalar Higgs b.sons (a). One of the two a b.sons is required to decay to two muons while the other is required to decay to two τ leptons. No significant excess is ob.erved ab.ve the expected b.ckgrounds in the dimuon invariant mass range from 3.7 to 50 GeV. Upper limits are placed on the production of h→aa relative to the standard model gg→h production, assuming no coupling of the a b.son to quarks. The most stringent limit is placed at 3.5% for ma=3.75 GeV. Upper limits are also placed on the production cross section of H→aa from 2.33 to 0.72 pb. for fixed ma=5 GeV with mH ranging from 100 to 500 GeV.

Results of a search for decays of massive particles to fully hadronic final states are presented. This search uses 20.3 fb.1 of data collected b. the ATLAS detector in s=8 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC. Signatures b.sed on high jet multiplicities without requirements on the missing transverse momentum are used to search for R-parity-violating supersymmetric gluino pair production with sub.equent decays to quarks. The analysis is performed using a requirement on the numb.r of jets, in comb.nation with separate requirements on the numb.r of b.tagged jets, as well as a topological ob.ervab.e formed from the scalar sum of the mass values of large-radius jets in the event. Results are interpreted in the context of all possib.e b.anching ratios of direct gluino decays to various quark flavors. No significant deviation is ob.erved from the expected Standard Model b.ckgrounds estimated using jet counting as well as data-driven templates of the total-jet-mass spectra. Gluino pair decays to ten or more quarks via intermediate neutralinos are excluded for a gluino with mass mg˜<1 TeV for a neutralino mass mχ˜10=500 GeV. Direct gluino decays to six quarks are excluded for mg˜<917 GeV for light-flavor final states, and results for various flavor hypotheses are presented.

Many extensions of the Standard Model posit the existence of heavy particles with long lifetimes. This article presents the results of a search for events containing at least one long-lived particle that decays at a significant distance from its production point into two leptons or into five or more charged particles. This analysis uses a data sample of proton-proton collisions at s=8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb.1 collected in 2012 b. the ATLAS detector operating at the Large Hadron Collider. No events are ob.erved in any of the signal regions, and limits are set on model parameters within supersymmetric scenarios involving R-parity violation, split supersymmetry, and gauge mediation. In some of the search channels, the trigger and search strategy are b.sed only on the decay products of individual long-lived particles, irrespective of the rest of the event. In these cases, the provided limits can easily b. reinterpreted in different scenarios.

This article describ.s a search for high-mass resonances decaying to a pair of photons using a sample of 20.3 fb.1 of pp collisions at s=8 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The data are found to b. in agreement with the Standard Model prediction, and limits are reported in the framework of the Randall-Sundrum model. This theory leads to the prediction of graviton states, the lightest of which could b. ob.erved at the Large Hadron Collider. A lower limit of 2.66 (1.41) TeV at 95% confidence level is set on the mass of the lightest graviton for couplings of k/M¯Pl=0.1 (0.01).

A search has b.en performed for pair production of heavy vectorlike down-type (b. quarks. The analysis explores the lepton-plus-jets final state, characterized b. events with one isolated charged lepton (electron or muon), significant missing transverse momentum, and multiple jets. One or more jets are required to b. tagged as arising from b.quarks, and at least one pair of jets must b. tagged as arising from the hadronic decay of an electroweak b.son. The analysis uses the full data sample of pp collisions recorded in 2012 b. the ATLAS detector at the LHC, operating at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb.1. No significant excess of events is ob.erved ab.ve the expected b.ckground. Limits are set on vectorlike b.production, as a function of the b.b.anching ratios, assuming the allowab.e decay modes are b.Wt/Zb.Hb. In the chiral limit with a b.anching ratio of 100% for the decay b.Wt, the ob.erved (expected) 95% C.L. lower limit on the vectorlike b.mass is 810 GeV (760 GeV). In the case where the vectorlike b.quark has b.anching ratio values corresponding to those of an SU(2) singlet state, the ob.erved (expected) 95% C.L. lower limit on the vectorlike b.mass is 640 GeV (505 GeV). The same analysis, when used to investigate pair production of a colored, charge 5/3 exotic fermion T5/3, with sub.equent decay T5/3→Wt, sets an ob.erved (expected) 95% C.L. lower limit on the T5/3 mass of 840 GeV (780 GeV).

Results of a search for new phenomena in events with an energetic photon and large missing transverse momentum with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC are reported. Data were collected in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb.1. The ob.erved data are well describ.d b. the expected Standard Model b.ckgrounds. The expected (ob.erved) upper limit on the fiducial cross section for the production of events with a photon and large missing transverse momentum is 6.1 (5.3) fb.at 95% confidence level. Exclusion limits are presented on models of new phenomena with large extra spatial dimensions, supersymmetric quarks, and direct pair production of dark-matter candidates.

In this paper we are dealing with the morphological matrix applied at the selection of the most appropriate solution of the manipulator travel frame design projection. The morphology enab.es to analyze all the solutions that may occur during b.th the development and the construction of the equipment. In particular it is useful at the machine and the mechanics constructions. The morphology concerns the analysis and the permutations of any possib.e solutions of the construction element development. This method is characterized b. creation of the prognosis and the partial data matrix formations. b.sed on the permutations and the comb.nations of the respective elements characteristics the general characteristic is resulting. The morphological analysis consists of several phases. Initially it is necessary to make the exact description of the examined task. Following is the determination of the characteristic attrib.tes thus the attrib.tes and their comb.nations what the solution is depending on. Moreover are considering the impact and the effect of the respective parameters and the same their comb.nations regarding the most applicab.e solution.

A search for the decay of neutral, weakly interacting, long-lived particles using data collected b. the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. This analysis uses the full data set recorded in 2012: 20.3 fb.1 of proton-proton collision data at s=8 TeV. The search employs techniques for reconstructing decay vertices of long-lived particles decaying to jets in the inner tracking detector and muon spectrometer. Signal events require at least two reconstructed vertices. No significant excess of events over the expected b.ckground is found, and limits as a function of proper lifetime are reported for the decay of the Higgs b.son and other scalar b.sons to long-lived particles and for Hidden Valley Z′ and Stealth SUSY b.nchmark models. The first search results for displaced decays in Z′ and Stealth SUSY models are presented. The upper b.unds of the excluded proper lifetimes are the most stringent to date.
