A search is performed for top-quark pairs (tt¯) produced together with a photon (γ) with transverse energy greater than 20 GeV using a sample of tt¯ candidate events in final states with jets, missing transverse momentum, and one isolated electron or muon. The data set used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.59 fb.1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV recorded b. the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. In total, 140 and 222 tt¯γ candidate events are ob.erved in the electron and muon channels, to b. compared to the expectation of 79±26 and 120±39 non-tt¯γ b.ckground events, respectively. The production of tt¯γ events is ob.erved with a significance of 5.3 standard deviations away from the null hypothesis. The tt¯γ production cross section times the b.anching ratio (b.) of the single-lepton decay channel is measured in a fiducial kinematic region within the ATLAS acceptance. The measured value is σtt¯γfid×b.=63±8(stat)−13+17(syst)±1(lumi) fb.per lepton flavor, in good agreement with the leading-order theoretical calculation normalized to the next-to-leading-order theoretical prediction of 48±10 fb.

The final ATLAS Run 1 measurements of Higgs b.son production and couplings in the decay channel H→ZZ*→ℓ+ℓ−ℓ′+ℓ′−, where ℓ, ℓ′=e or μ, are presented. These measurements were performed using pp collision data corresponding to integrated luminosities of 4.5 and 20.3 fb.1 at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, respectively, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The H→ZZ*→4ℓ signal is ob.erved with a significance of 8.1 standard deviations, with an expectation of 6.2 standard deviations, at mH=125.36 GeV, the comb.ned ATLAS measurement of the Higgs b.son mass from the H→γγ and H→ZZ*→4ℓ channels. The production rate relative to the Standard Model expectation, the signal strength, is measured in four different production categories in the H→ZZ*→4ℓ channel. The measured signal strength, at this mass, and with all categories comb.ned, is 1.44−0.33+0.40. The signal strength for Higgs b.son production in gluon fusion or in association with tt¯ or b.¯ pairs is found to b. 1.7−0.4+0.5, while the signal strength for vector-b.son fusion comb.ned with WH/ZH associated production is found to b. 0.3−0.9+1.6.

The transverse polarization of Λ and Λ¯ hyperons produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is measured. The analysis uses 760 μb.1 of minimum b.as data collected b. the ATLAS detector at the LHC in the year 2010. The measured transverse polarization averaged over Feynman xF from 5×10−5 to 0.01 and transverse momentum pT from 0.8 to 15 GeV is −0.010±0.005(stat)±0.004(syst) for Λ and 0.002±0.006(stat)±0.004(syst) for Λ¯. It is also measured as a function of xF and pT, b.t no significant dependence on these variab.es is ob.erved. Prior to this measurement, the polarization was measured at fixed-target experiments with center-of-mass energies up to ab.ut 40 GeV. The ATLAS results are compatib.e with the extrapolation of a fit from previous measurements to the xF range covered b. this measurement.

We report the ob.ervation of Higgs b.son decays to WW* b.sed on an excess over b.ckground of 6.1 standard deviations in the dilepton final state, where the Standard Model expectation is 5.8 standard deviations. Evidence for the vector-b.son fusion (Vb.) production process is ob.ained with a significance of 3.2 standard deviations. The results are ob.ained from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb.1 from s=7 and 8 TeV pp collisions recorded b. the ATLAS detector at the LHC. For a Higgs b.son mass of 125.36 GeV, the ratio of the measured value to the expected value of the total production cross section times b.anching fraction is 1.09−0.15+0.16(stat)−0.14+0.17(syst). The corresponding ratios for the gluon fusion and vector-b.son fusion production mechanisms are 1.02±0.19(stat)−0.18+0.22(syst) and 1.27−0.40+0.44(stat)−0.21+0.30(syst), respectively. At s=8 TeV, the total production cross sections are measured to b. σ(gg→H→WW*)=4.6±0.9(stat)−0.7+0.8(syst) pb.and σ(Vb. H→WW*)=0.51−0.15+0.17(stat)−0.08+0.13(syst) pb. The fiducial cross section is determined for the gluon-fusion process in exclusive final states with zero or one associated jet.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm for lossless transmission of data in a b.uetooth scatternet taking into consideration the mob.lity of the devices. Wireless sensor network (WSN) has emerged as an important application area where nodes are generally placed in an unattended environment and therefore are vulnerab.e to attack b. adversaries. Moreover in real time application domains delay even b. fraction of a second may deceive the purpose of the application. Therefore, designing an attack-defending scheme for WSN without involving any additional delay in data-forwarding is an important challenge in this domain. The present work proposes a data-forwarding scheme having no additional delay to defend jamming attack in WSN. The scheme considers a multilayer architecture where the layers are made up of hexagonal cells each containing sensor nodes in the form of clusters. The nodes are randomly deployed throughout the network and clusters are formed so that every cell hosts two sets of clusters operating in two different predefined frequencies. We have provided design guideline to determine cell size in terms of network parameters. This guideline ensures that for a cluster head there is at least another cluster head at one-hop distance towards the sink and thereb. ensures data-forwarding in shortest path. During data-forwarding, if a frequency is jammed, the cluster operating in that frequency b.comes inoperative and the other cluster acts as b.ck-up. We claim that the scheme defends jamming attack without incurring any additional delay and the claim is sub.tantiated through simulation. © 2011 IEEE.

In this manuscript we recognize the handwritten Devnagari numerals. In our implementation we have used density and b.ckground directional distrib.tion features for the zones, in which we divided the numeral samples already. We used the normalized images of samples of varying sizes of 32*32, 40*40 and 48*48. We divided these normalized images into 4*4 (16), 5*5 (25) and 6*6 (36) zones respectively to compute the features for each zone. In all the cases each zone is of size 8*8 pixels. Each zone contains 9 features consisting of one density feature and 8 b.ckgrounds directional distrib.tion features. The zonal density feature is computed b. dividing the numb.r of foreground pixels in each zone b. total numb.r of pixels in the zone i.e. 64. The other 8 features are b.sed on directional distrib.tion values of b.ckground in eight directions. These directional values are computed for each foreground pixel b. summing up the value corresponding to neighb.uring b.ckground pixels given in the specific mask for each direction. For each direction these directional distrib.tion features are summed up for all pixels in each zone. Thus numb.rs of features finally used for recognition are 144, 225 and 324 for samples of respective sizes in increasing order. For classification purpose we have used SVM classifier with Rb. kernel. Our dataset of handwritten Devnagari numerals used is provided b. Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata. Training data size is 18783 and testing data size is 3763, totally 22546. The optimum 5-fold cross validation accuracies of training data ob.ained for varying sizes of samples in increasing order are 98.76%, 98.91% and 98.94% respectively. b. ob.erving the cross validation results it is conclusive that at the cost of increasing the features size there is only minute increases in the performance. So we recommend 144 sized feature vector to recognize testing samples. The testing accuracy b. using 144 features for 32*32 normalized samples ob.erved is 9

For a geometric graph on a topology, we employ an iterated version of the smallest last coloring algorithm to ob.ain either the largest clique or very tight b.unds on its size. The procedure is topology independent and runs in two phases, glob.l and local. We exploit pruning methods in b.ilding the geometric graphs and in limiting the numb.r of sub.graphs searched. We have performed experiments using random geometric graphs in the plane and on the sphere, and provide computational results. The time complexity of the algorithm is O(|E|V×|V|+|V|2) where |E| and |V| are the cardinalities of a geometric graph's edge set and vertex set, respectively. © 2011 IEEE.
