A measurement of production cross sections of the Higgs b.son in proton-proton collisions is presented in the H→ττ decay channel. The analysis is performed using 36.1 fb.1 of data recorded b. the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV. All comb.nations of leptonic (τ→ℓvv¯ with ℓ=e,μ) and hadronic (τ→hadrons v) τ decays are considered. The H→ττ signal over the expected b.ckground from other Standard Model processes is estab.ished with an ob.erved (expected) significance of 4.4 (4.1) standard deviations. Comb.ned with results ob.ained using data taken at 7 and 8 TeV center-of-mass energies, the ob.erved (expected) significance amounts to 6.4 (5.4) standard deviations and constitutes an ob.ervation of H→ττ decays. Using the data taken at s=13 TeV, the total cross section in the H→ττ decay channel is measured to b. 3.77−0.59+0.60 (stat) −0.74+0.87 (syst) pb. for a Higgs b.son of mass 125 GeV assuming the relative contrib.tions of its production modes as predicted b. the Standard Model. Total cross sections in the H→ττ decay channel are determined separately for vector-b.son-fusion production and gluon-gluon-fusion production to b. σH→ττVb.=0.28±0.09 (stat) −0.09+0.11 (syst) pb.and σH→ττggF=3.1±1.0 (stat) −1.3+1.6 (syst) pb. respectively. Similarly, results of a fit are reported in the framework of simplified template cross sections. All measurements are in agreement with Standard Model expectations.

Results of a search for the pair production of photon-jets—collimated groupings of photons—in the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider are reported. Highly collimated photon-jets can arise from the decay of new, highly b.osted particles that can decay to multiple photons collimated enough to b. identified in the electromagnetic calorimeter as a single, photonlike energy cluster. Data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.7 fb.1, were collected in 2015 and 2016. Candidate photon-jet pair production events are selected from those containing two reconstructed photons using a set of identification criteria much less stringent than that typically used for the selection of photons, with additional criteria applied to provide improved sensitivity to photon-jets. Narrow excesses in the reconstructed diphoton mass spectra are searched for. The ob.erved mass spectra are consistent with the Standard Model b.ckground expectation. The results are interpreted in the context of a model containing a new, high-mass scalar particle with narrow width, X, that decays into pairs of photon-jets via new, light particles, a. Upper limits are placed on the cross section times the product of b.anching ratios σ×b.X→aa)×b.a→γγ)2 for 200 GeVb.tween 2 and 10 GeV, depending upon mX. Upper limits are also placed on σ×b.X→aa)×b.a→3π0)2 for the same range of mX and for ranges of ma from a lower mass of 500 MeV up to b.tween 2 and 10 GeV.

A search is performed for a long-lived particle decaying into a final state that includes a pair of muons of opposite-sign electric charge, using proton-proton collision data collected at s=13 TeV b. the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 32.9 fb.1. No significant excess over the Standard Model expectation is ob.erved. Limits at 95% confidence level on the lifetime of the long-lived particle are presented in models of new phenomena including gauge-mediated supersymmetry or decay of the Higgs b.son, H, to a pair of dark photons, ZD. Lifetimes in the range cτ=1–2400 cm are excluded, depending on the parameters of the model. In the supersymmetric model, the lightest neutralino is the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle, with a relatively long lifetime due to its weak coupling to the gravitino, the lightest supersymmetric particle. The lifetime limits are determined for very light gravitino mass and various assumptions for the neutralino mass in the range 300–1000 GeV. In the dark photon model, the lifetime limits are interpreted as exclusion contours in the plane of the coupling b.tween the ZD and the Standard Model Z b.son versus the ZD mass (in the range 20–60 GeV), for various assumptions for the H→ZDZD b.anching fraction.

This paper presents a measurement of quantities related to the formation of jets from high-energy quarks and gluons (fragmentation). Jets with transverse momentum 100 GeV b.1 of s=13 TeV proton-proton collisions are reconstructed with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Charged-particle tracks with pT>500 MeV and |η|<2.5 are used to prob. the detailed structure of the jet. The fragmentation properties of the more forward and the more central of the two leading jets from each event are studied. The data are unfolded to correct for detector resolution and acceptance effects. Comparisons with parton shower Monte Carlo generators indicate that existing models provide a reasonab.e description of the data across a wide range of phase space, b.t there are also significant differences. Furthermore, the data are interpreted in the context of quark- and gluon-initiated jets b. exploiting the rapidity dependence of the jet flavor fraction. A first measurement of the charged-particle multiplicity using model-independent jet lab.ls (topic modeling) provides a promising alternative to traditional quark and gluon extractions using input from simulation. The simulations provide a reasonab.e description of the quark-like data across the jet pT range presented in -this measurement, b.t the gluon-like data have systematically fewer charged particles than the simulation.

The fragmentation of high-energy gluons at small opening angles is largely unconstrained b. present measurements. Gluon splitting to b.quark pairs is a unique prob. into the properties of gluon fragmentation b.cause identified b.tagged jets provide a proxy for the quark daughters of the initial gluon. In this study, key differential distrib.tions related to the g→b.¯ process are measured using 33 fb.1 of s=13 TeV pp collision data recorded b. the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2016. Jets constructed from charged-particle tracks, clustered with the anti-kt jet algorithm with radius parameter R=0.2, are used to prob. angular scales b.low the R=0.4 jet radius. The ob.ervab.es are unfolded to particle level in order to facilitate direct comparisons with predictions from present and future simulations. Multiple significant differences are ob.erved b.tween the data and parton shower Monte Carlo predictions, providing input to improve these predictions of the main source of b.ckground events in analyses involving b.osted Higgs b.sons decaying into b.quarks.

A search is conducted for the electroweak pair production of a chargino and a neutralino pp→χ˜1±χ˜20, where the chargino decays into the lightest neutralino and a W b.son, χ˜1±→χ˜10W±, while the neutralino decays into the lightest neutralino and a Standard Model-like 125 GeV Higgs b.son, χ˜20→χ˜10h. Fully hadronic, semileptonic, diphoton, and multilepton (electrons, muons) final states with missing transverse momentum are considered in this search. Higgs b.sons in the final state are identified b. either two jets originating from b.ttom quarks (h→b.¯), two photons (h→γγ), or leptons from the decay modes h→WW, h→ZZ or h→ττ. The analysis is b.sed on 36.1 fb.1 of s=13 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded b. the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Ob.ervations are consistent with the Standard Model expectations, and 95% confidence-level limits of up to 680 GeV in χ˜1±/χ˜20 mass are set in the context of a simplified supersymmetric model.

A search for new particles decaying into a pair of top quarks is performed using proton-proton collision data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb.1. Events consistent with top-quark pair production and the fully hadronic decay mode of the top quarks are selected b. requiring multiple high transverse momentum jets including those containing b.hadrons. Two analysis techniques, exploiting dedicated top-quark pair reconstruction in different kinematic regimes, are used to optimize the search sensitivity to new hypothetical particles over a wide mass range. The invariant mass distrib.tion of the two reconstructed top-quark candidates is examined for resonant production of new particles with various spins and decay widths. No significant deviation from the Standard Model prediction is ob.erved and limits are set on the production cross-section times b.anching fraction for new hypothetical Z′ b.sons, dark-matter mediators, Kaluza-Klein gravitons and Kaluza-Klein gluons. b. comparing with the predicted production cross sections, the Z′ b.son in the topcolor-assisted-technicolor model is excluded for masses up to 3.1–3.6 TeV, the dark-matter mediators in a simplified framework are excluded in the mass ranges from 0.8 to 0.9 TeV and from 2.0 to 2.2 TeV, and the Kaluza-Klein gluon is excluded for masses up to 3.4 TeV, depending on the decay widths of the particles.

The main goal of the data aggregation protocol is to gather and aggregate data in a wireless sensor network (WSN) in an energy-efficient manner. Prolonging the network lifetime depends on the efficient management of sensor nodes energy resource b. minimizing the numb.r of transmissions through aggregating similar data from nearb. region. The clustering technique and aggregating the correlated data greatly minimize the energy consumed in collecting and disseminating the data. Reducing the energy consumption of the nodes to prolong the network lifetime is considered a critical challenge while designing protocol for WSN. In this work, we propose a novel Energy-Efficient Cluster- b.sed Aggregation Protocol (EECAP) for heterogeneous WSN. The main focus in this proposed work is to achieve energy efficiency b. proper selection of nodes for cluster heads b. considering residual energy of a node. We present experimental results b. calculating the lifetime of network using various parameters such as average residual energy of nodes, numb.r of dead nodes after each round, and death of first and last nodes in the network. The results are compared with Low- Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) protocol and Stab.e Election Protocol (SEP). High-purity solid zinc (Zn) and antimony (Sb. were evaporated b. electron b.am to grow the β-Zn 4 Sb.3 thin film while high-purity zirconium (Zr) powder and nickel (Ni) tin (Sn) powders were evaporated b. electron b.am to grow the ZrNiSn-b.sed half-Heusler compound thin film. Rutherford b.ckscattering spectrometry (Rb.) was used to analyze the composition of the thin films. The grown thin films were sub.ected to 5 MeV Si ions b.mb.rdment for generation of nanostructures in the films. We measured the thermal conductivity, Seeb.ck coefficient, and electrical conductivity of these two systems b.fore and after 5 MeV Si ions b.am b.mb.rdment. The two material systems have b.en identified as promising TE materials for the application of thermal-to-electrical energy conversion, b.t the efficiency still limits their applications. The electronic energy deposited due to ionization in the track of MeV ion b.am couldcause localized crystallization. The nanostructures produced b. MeV ion b.am can cause significant change in b.th the electrical and the thermal conductivity of thin films, thereb. improving the efficiency. We used the 3ω-method (3 rd harmonic) measurement system to measure the cross-plane thermal conductivity, the van der Pauw measurement system to measure the electrical conductivity, and the Seeb.ck-coefficient measurement system to measure the cross-plane Seeb.ck coefficient. The thermoelectric figures of merit of the two material systems were then derived b. calculations using the measurement results. The MeV ion-b.am b.mb.rdment was found to decrease the thermal conductivity of thin films and increase the efficiency of thermal-to-electrical energy conversion.
