The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Ob.ervatory(JUNO)is a large liquid scintillator detector designed to explore many topics in fundamental *** this study,the potential of searching for proton decay in the p→νK^(+)mode with JUNO is *** kaon and its decay particles feature a clear three-fold coincidence signature that results in a high efficiency for ***,the excellent energy resolution of JUNO permits suppression of the sizab.e background caused by other delayed *** on these advantages,the detection efficiency for the proton decay via p→νK^(+)is 36.9%±4.9%with a background level of 0.2±0.05(syst)±0.2(stat)events after 10 years of data *** estimated sensitivity based on 200 kton-years of exposure is 9.6×1033 years,which is competitive with the current best limits on the proton lifetime in this channel and complements the use of different detection technologies.

Implementation of three LWC schemes in the WiFi 4-way handshake with software defined radio

With the rapid deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) devices in applications such as smarthomes, healthcare and industrial automation, security and privacy has become a major concern. Recently, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has initiated a lightweight cryptography (LWC) competition to standardize new cryptographic algorithm(s) for providing security in resource-constrained environments. In this context, measuring the suitability of new algorithms with existing communication and authentication protocols is an important prob.em. This paper investigates the performance of three NIST lightweight authenticated ciphers in round 2 namely ACe, SPIX and WAGe in the WiFi and CoAP handshaking authentication protocols. We implement the WiFi and CoAP handshake protocols and the Ieee802.11a physical layer communication protocol in software defined radio (SDR) and embed these two handshaking protocols into the Ieee802.11a OFDM communication protocol to measure the performance of three ciphers. We present the construction of KDF and MIC used in the handshaking authentication protocols and provide optimized implementations of ACe, SPIX and WAGe including KDF and MIC on three different (low-power) microcontrollers. The performance results of these three ciphers when adopted in WiFi and CoAP protocols are presented. The Illinois express Quantum Network (IeQNeT) is a program to realize metro-scale quantum networking over deployed optical fiber using currently availab.e technology. IeQNeT consists of multiple sites that are geographically dispersed in the Chicago metropolitan area. each site has one or more quantum nodes (Q-nodes) representing the communication parties in a quantum network. Q-nodes generate or measure quantum signals such as entangled photons and communicate the results via standard, classical, means. The entangled photons in IeQNeT nodes are generated at multiple wavelengths, and are selectively distributed to the desired users via optical switches. Here we describe the network architecture of IeQNeT, including the Internet-inspired layered hierarchy that leverages software-defined-networking (SDN) technology to perform traditional wavelength routing and assignment between the Q-nodes. Specifically, SDN decouples the control and data planes, with the control plane being entirely classical. Issues associated with synchronization, calibration, network monitoring, and scheduling will be discussed. An important goal of IeQNeT is demonstrating the extent to which the control plane can coexist with the data plane using the same fiber lines. This goal is furthered by the use of tunab.e narrow-band optical filtering at the receivers and, at least in some cases, a wide wavelength separation between the quantum and classical channels. We envision IeQNeT to aid in developing robust and practical quantum networks by demonstrating metro-scale quantum communication tasks such as entanglement distribution and quantum-state teleportation. © 2021, CC bY.

Carbonatite-related rare earth element (Ree), Nb, fluorite, and phosphate deposits and Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) deposits containing Zn, Pb, Ag, and Ge are increasingly important sources of critical metals and minerals. Geochemical classification of carbonatite-related and MVT deposits using chemical compositions of dolomite, the most common gangue mineral in such deposits, is potentially useful for tracing the deposit types and assisting in mineral exploration. Here, we studied variations in elemental contents (42 elements) and δ 26 Mg of dolomite from deposits in the eastern Canadian Cordillera, where carbonatite-related and MVT deposits coexist, to examine its usefulness for geochemical discrimination. Our dataset showed systematic differences between carbonatite and MVT deposits: dolomites from carbonatites were enriched in Fe, Ga, Sr, As, ba, Rees, and Th and had high δ 26 Mg values, whereas dolomites from MVT deposits were enriched in Zn and Pb, but there were obvious overlaps. We developed an accurate discrimination model by performing a partial least squares regression-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) that considered all variab.es simultaneously. The results of PLS-DA showed that two components were sufficient for accurate classification of dolomites from the two deposit types in the study area in comparison with the results of principal component analysis and liner discriminant analysis (PCA-LDA). The δ 26 Mg, Sr/Mg, Zn/Mg, ba/Mg, and Pb/Mg yielded the highest variab.e importance on projection (VIP) scores, which is consistent with the geochemical parameters expected from previous studies on carbonatites and MVT deposits. Furthermore, we applied the developed discrimination model to a dataset of dolomite from other deposit (Rock Canyon Creek deposit) and unmineralized dolomite from the host rocks. Representational Rényi heterogeneity

A discrete system’s heterogeneity is measured by the Rényi heterogeneity family of indices (also known as Hill numbers or Hannah-Kay indices), whose units are known as the numbers equivalent, and whose scaling properties are consistent and intuitive. Unfortunately, numbers equivalent heterogeneity measures for non-categorical data require a priori (A) categorical partitioning and (b) pairwise distance measurement on the space of ob.ervab.e data. This precludes their application to prob.ems in disciplines where categories are ill-defined or where semantically relevant features must be learned as abstractions from some data. We thus introduce representational Rényi heterogeneity (RRH), which transforms an ob.ervab.e domain onto a latent space upon which the Rényi heterogeneity is both tractab.e and semantically relevant. This method does not require a priori binning nor definition of a distance function on the ob.ervab.e space. Compared with existing state-of-the-art indices on a beta-mixture distribution, we show that RRH more accurately detects the number of distinct mixture components. We also show that RRH can measure heterogeneity in natural images whose semantically relevant features must be abstracted using deep generative models. We further show that RRH can uniquely capture heterogeneity caused by distinct components in mixture distributions. Our novel approach will enab.e measurement of heterogeneity in disciplines where a priori categorical partitions of ob.ervab.e data are not possib.e, or where semantically relevant features must be inferred using latent variab.e models. Considering a noncentrosymmetric pinning texture composed of a square array of triangular holes, the magnetic flux penetration and expulsion are investigated experimentally and theoretically. A direct visualization of the magnetic landscape obtained using a magneto-optical technique on a Nb film is complemented by a multiscale numerical modeling. This combined approach allows the magnetic flux dynamics to be identified from the single flux quantum limit up to the macroscopic electromagnetic response. Within the theoretical framework provided by time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau simulations, an estimation of the in-plane current anisotropy is obtained and its dependence with the radius of the curvature of hole vertices is addressed. These simulations show that current crowding plays an important role in channeling the flux motion, favoring hole-to-hole flux hopping rather than promoting interstitial flux displacement in between the holes. The resulting anisotropy of the critical current density gives rise to a distinct pattern of discontinuity lines for increasing and decreasing applied magnetic fields, in sharp contrast to the invariab.e patterns reported for centrosymmetric pinning potentials. This ob.ervation is partially accounted for by the rectification effect, as demonstrated by finite-element modeling. At low temperatures, where magnetic field penetration is dominated by thermomagnetic instabilities, highly directional magnetic flux avalanches with a fingerlike shape are ob.erved to propagate along the easy axis of the pinning potential. This morphology is reproduced by numerical simulations. Our findings demonstrate that anisotropic pinning landscapes and, in particular, ratchet potentials produce subtle modifications to the critical state field profile that are reflected in the distribution of discontinuity lines.

The Undergraduate Student Instrumentation Project (USIP) was a NASA program created to engage undergraduate students in rigorous scientific research for the purposes of innovation and developing the next generation of professionals in space research. It is now run by the University of Houston using local resources. This student-led project, based on the 5e instructional model, is executed by the students from initial ideation of research ob.ectives to the design, testing, and deployment of scientific payloads. The 5e Instructional model places the student at the center of knowledge building, while instructors facilitate interaction with content and guide the inquiry process. Since 2013, this project has b.en not only an effective vehicle for delivering STeM education but is also effective in increasing classroom engagement and interest in space. Space research is inherently interdisciplinary and crosscuts Geoscience, engineering, and Technology. The project is designed to integrate engineering, technology, physics, material science, and earth and atmospheric sciences as an important opportunity for the students to gain access to cross-disciplinary experiential research. In addition to classroom engagement, the students build their own payloads and ground instruments. This project increases students’ command of essential skills such as teamwork, collaboration, prob.em solving, technology, communication, innovation, and leadership. For the faculty, the project was an extended exercise in professional development, learning how to implement project level inquiry-based education on this scale. For the students, this formative experience continues to encourage the development of a much broader range of technical skills than is typically offered within an undergraduate degree. Furthermore, the extensive time and energy that students commit to this project promotes a strong sense of personal and professional responsibility and emphasizes the necessity of coherent teamwork.

Part of Speech tagging is one of the active research prob.em in Natural Language Processing involves language understanding, reasoning and the utilization of common sense of knowledge. This paper contributes the pioneer evaluation to the Kayah Language for tagging Part of Speech. Kayah language is one of the low resource languages in Myanmar. Kayah corpus used in this system is translated by Kayah people from Myanmar. The goal is to build the Kayah Language Part of Speech Tagging System based Hidden Markov Model. Sixteen tag sets are defined for this language. Hidden Markov Model is used to learn the Kayah corpus of words annotated with the correct Part of Speech tags and generated the model relating to the Initial, Transition and emission probabilities for Kayah Language. Then the generated model is used to decode Viterbi algorithm. This Kayah Hidden Markov Model based POS tagging has b.en experimented and has overall accuracy of 87 % on test data.

KM3NeT/ORCA is an underwater neutrino telescope currently under construction in the Mediterranean Sea, with the goal of measuring atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters and determining the neutrino mass ordering. KM3NeT/ORCA can additionally provide constraints on physics beyond the Standard Model which could appear through strong matter effects, such as the neutrino Non-Standard Interactions (NSIs). This work reports on the results of the NSIs search with the final dataset of ORCA6, the first configuration of ORCA with six detection units, which uses 433 kton-years of exposure and improved calibration, reconstruction and selection methods compared to previous works. The obtained bounds at 90% CL, |Εμτ| ≤ 5.5 · 10−3, |Εeτ| ≤ 7.8 · 10−2, |Εeμ| ≤ 5.8 · 10−2 and −0.015 ≤ Εττ − Εμμ ≤ 0.016, are comparab.e to the current most stringent limits on any NSIs parameter. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.
