The KM3NeT Collaboration has tackled a common challenge faced by the astroparticle physics community, namely adapting the experiment-specific simulation software to work with the CORSIKA air shower simulation output. The proposed solution is an extension of the open source code gSeaGen, which allows the transport of muons generated by CORSIKA to a detector of any size at an arbitrary depth. The gSeaGen code was not only extended in terms of functionality but also underwent a thorough redesign of the muon propagation routine, resulting in a more accurate and efficient simulation. This paper presents the capabilities of the new gSeaGen code as well as prospects for further developments. Solution method: The readout of CORSIKA simulation was adapted from the base script provided together with CORSIKA and implemented as a standalone flux driver in gSeaGen. The propagation routine has b.en redesigned to support the geometry of extensive air shower simulations and to improve its efficiency in propagating particles to the detector. The KM3NeT Collaboration is constructing two deep-sea Cherenkov detectors in the Mediterranean Sea, aiming at neutrino oscillation measurements with the ORCA array, while the ARCA array aims at neutrino astronomy in the TeV range. In April 2021, 5 additional detection units were deployed in the ARCA site. The KM3NeT/ARCA instrumented volume is currently similar to the one of the ANTAReS neutrino telescope. In this contribution, an analysis of the data obtained with the detector before April 2021 is presented as well as the analysis of the very first data from the new KM3NeT/ARCA configuration. The discovery of a high-energy cosmic neutrino flux has paved the way for the field of neutrino astronomy. For a large part of the flux, the sources remain unidentified. The KM3NeT detector, which is under construction in the Mediterranean sea, is designed to determine their origin. KM3NeT will instrument a cubic kilometre of seawater with photomultiplier tubes that detect Cherenkov radiation from neutrino interaction products with nanosecond precision. For single cascade event signatures, KM3NeT already showed that it can reach degree-level resolutions, greatly increasing the use of these neutrinos for astronomy. In this contribution, we further refine the cascade reconstruction by making a more detailed model of the neutrinos events and including additional information on the hit times. The arrival time of light can be used to improve the identification of doub.e cascade signatures from tau neutrinos, and the angular resolution of both single and doub.e cascade signatures. The real-time working conditions of the ball mill in the grinding process are complicated, which makes it difficult to accurately obtain the internal load status of the ball mill. In this paper, the energy difference between the original cylinder vibration signal and the intrinsic mode function is proposed as the evaluation parameter of the adaptive variational mode decomposition (VMD) layer number, and a new autocorrelation function is constructed. The intrinsic mode function is processed by introducing the energy centrobaric method of the Nuttall self-convolution window. Accordingly, a ball mill load feature extraction method based on adaptive VMD and improved power spectrum estimation is proposed, and the ball mill load identification system based on LabVIeW is developed. The number of layers of intrinsic mode function could be adaptively determined. And the algorithm's ability to resist mode aliasing and false components of this method is improved, which improves the accuracy of ball mill load detection. The measured results show that internal load features of ball mill during the grinding process are effectively extracted, and the mill load status is accurately identified, which provide an accurate and reliab.e basis for grinding optimization control and efficiency.

The KM3NeT research infrastructure in the Mediterranean is a multi-purpose cubic-kilometre neutrino ob.ervatory consisting of two detectors optimised to study cosmic and atmospheric neutrinos between GeV to PeV energies. Additionally, KM3NeT multi-photomultiplier optical modules allow the detection of interaction products from neutrinos with energies of a few MeV by selecting nanosecond coincidences within the photomultipliers of the same module. The distribution of the number of photomultipliers forming a coincidence (multiplicity) for the duration of the supernova emission is used as a proxy of the average neutrino energy. Using an optimised coincidence selection the KM3NeT detectors will be sensitive to supernovae in our Galaxy and beyond. A high number of detected events from a core collapse supernova explosion is expected in KM3NeT thanks to its large effective volume. The measurement of the neutrino light curve properties, such as the light curve start time and the presence of the standing accretion shock instability oscillations is possib.e with such statistics. Sub-millisecond time synchronisation between KM3NeT detectors allows joint ob.ervation. Such a scheme can be also a viab.e solution to synchronise the KM3NeT telescopes with other detectors aiming to ob.erve neutrino emission from core collapse supernovae through the SNeWS network. © Copyright owned by the author(s).

A search for the electroweak production of a vector-like quark T′, decaying to a top quark and a Higgs boson is presented. The search is based on a sample of proton-proton collision events recorded at the LHC at s = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb¹. This is the first T′ search that exploits the Higgs boson decay to a pair of photons. For narrow isospin singlet T′ states with masses up to 1.1 TeV, the excellent diphoton invariant mass resolution of 1–2% results in an increased sensitivity compared to previous searches based on the same production mechanism. The electroweak production of a T′ quark with mass up to 960 GeV is excluded at 95% confidence level, assuming a coupling strength κb>Tb> = 0.25 and a relative decay width Γ/Mb>T′b> < 5%. The first measurement of the top quark pair (tt¯) production cross section in proton-proton collisions at s = 13.6 TeV is presented. Data recorded with the CMS detector at the CeRN LHC in Summer 2022, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.21 fb⁻¹, are analyzed. events are selected with one or two charged leptons (electrons or muons) and additional jets. A maximum likelihood fit is performed in event categories defined by the number and flavors of the leptons, the number of jets, and the number of jets identified as originating from b quarks. An inclusive tt¯ production cross section of 881 ± 23 (stat + syst) ± 20 (lumi) pb is measured, in agreement with the standard model prediction of 924b>−40b>⁺³² pb. © The Author(s) 2023.

Search for new physics in the τ lepton plus missing transverse momentum final state in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV

A search for physics beyond the standard model (SM) in the final state with a hadronically decaying tau lepton and a neutrino is presented. This analysis is based on data recorded by the CMS experiment from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the LHC, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 138 fb⁻¹. The transverse mass spectrum is analyzed for the presence of new physics. No significant deviation from the SM prediction is ob.erved. Limits are set on the production cross section of a W′ boson decaying into a tau lepton and a neutrino. Lower limits are set on the mass of the sequential SM-like heavy charged vector boson and the mass of a quantum black hole. Upper limits are placed on the couplings of a new boson to the SM fermions. Constraints are put on a nonuniversal gauge interaction model and an effective field theory model. For the first time, upper limits on the cross section of t-channel leptoquark (LQ) exchange are presented. These limits are translated into exclusion limits on the LQ mass and on its coupling in the t-channel. The sensitivity of this analysis extends into the parameter space of LQ models that attempt to explain the anomalies ob.erved in b meson decays. The limits presented for the various interpretations are the most stringent to date. Additionally, a model-independent limit is provided. The second-order (v b>2b>) and third-order (v b>3b>) Fourier coefficients describing the azimuthal anisotropy of prompt and nonprompt (from b-hadron decays) J/ψ, as well as prompt ψ(2S) mesons are measured in lead-lead collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sNN = 5.02 TeV. The analysis uses a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.61 nb⁻¹ recorded with the CMS detector. The J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are reconstructed using their dimuon decay channel. The v b>2b> and v b>3b> coefficients are extracted using the scalar product method and studied as functions of meson transverse momentum and collision centrality. The measured v b>2b> values for prompt J/ψ mesons are found to be larger than those for nonprompt J/ψ mesons. The prompt J/ψ v b>2b> values at high p b>Tb> are found to be underpredicted by a model incorporating only parton energy loss effects in a quark-gluon plasma medium. Prompt and nonprompt J/ψ meson v b>3b> and prompt ψ(2S) v b>2b> and v b>3b> values are also reported for the first time, providing new information about heavy quark interactions in the hot and dense medium created in heavy ion collisions. This chapter explains how a mission critical Knowledge-based System (KbS) has b.en designed and implemented within a real case study of a governamental organization. Moreover, the KbS has b.en developed using a novel agile software development methodology. Due to fast changing operational scenarios and volatile requirements, traditional procedural development methodologies perform poorly. Thus, an Agile-like methodology has b.en exploited, called iAgile. The KbS is based on an ontology used to merge different mental models of users and developers. Moreover, the ontology of the system is useful for interoperability and knowledge representation. Mission critical functionalities have b.en developed in 5-week cycles, along with the ontology. So, the KbS serves for three main activities: (i) requirement disambiguation, (ii) interoperability with other legacy systems, and (iii) information retrieval and display of different informative sources. © 2018, Springer International Publishing AG.
