Today multiprocessors, multicores, clusters and heterogeneous computing are becoming the most popular architectures to achieve high performance computing. The different approaches are made by system designers to enhance the system performance such as increasing clock frequency of CPUs from MHz to GHz and addition of more number of CPU cores i.e from single core processor to dual core, quad core, hexa core, octo core, ten core and more processors. Still, multicore processing creates some challenges of its own. The extra core results into increased processor size and also high power consumption. Meanwhile, General Purpose Graphics Processing Units (GPGPUs) are designed and implemented that contain hundreds of cores with more number of Arithmetic and Logic Units and Control Units. These GPGPUs can be used in addition to CPU for heterogeneous computing for the enhancement of system performance for selected applications by data parallelism. The heterogeneous programming environment that includes other processors like GPGPU in addition to CPU can be used to enhance the execution performance of computational intensive programs. So, it is necessary for the programmer to run and analyze the selected computational intensive programs on both homogeneous and heterogeneous programming platform. The homogeneous programming environment makes the use of multi core CPU, where as the heterogeneous programming environment makes the use of different processors such as General Purpose Graphics Processing Unit (GPGPUs), Field Programmab.e Gate Arrays (FPGAs), Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) in addition to CPU. Hence, the programmer needs to write the code that makes the use of both CPU and other processors by using heterogeneous software environment such as parallel MATLAb with GPU enab.ed functions, MATLAb supported CUDA kernels and CUDA C for the execution of parallel code to achieve high performance in heterogeneous programming environment in comparison with homogeneous (sequential)

This paper presents a measurement of forward-forward and forward-central dijet azimuthal angular correlations and conditional yields in proton-proton (pp) and proton-lead (p+Pb) collisions as a probe of the nuclear gluon density in regions where the fraction of the average momentum per nucleon carried by the parton entering the hard scattering is low. In these regions, gluon saturation can modify the rapidly increasing parton distribution function of the gluon. The analysis utilizes 25pb−1 of pp data and 360μb−1 of p+Pb data, both at sNN=5.02 TeV, collected in 2015 and 2016, respectively, with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The measurement is performed in the center-of-mass frame of the nucleon-nucleon system in the rapidity range between −4.0 and 4.0 using the two highest transverse-momentum jets in each event, with the highest transverse-momentum jet restricted to the forward rapidity range. No significant broadening of azimuthal angular correlations is ob.erved for forward-forward or forward-central dijets in p+Pb compared to pp collisions. For forward-forward jet pairs in the proton-going direction, the ratio of conditional yields in p+Pb collisions to those in pp collisions is suppressed by approximately 20%, with no significant dependence on the transverse momentum of the dijet system. No modification of conditional yields is ob.erved for forward-central dijets.

This paper reports on a search for electroweak diboson (WW/WZ/ZZ) production in association with a high-mass dijet system, using data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.5 fb−1, were recorded with the ATLAS detector in 2015 and 2016 at the Large Hadron Collider. The search is performed in final states in which one boson decays leptonically, and the other boson decays hadronically. The hadronically decaying W/Z boson is reconstructed as either two small-radius jets or one large-radius jet using jet substructure techniques. The electroweak production of WW/WZ/ZZ in association with two jets is measured with an ob.erved (expected) significance of 2.7 (2.5) standard deviations, and the fiducial cross section is measured to be 45.1±8.6(stat.)−14.6+15.9(syst.) fb.

A search for a heavy charged-boson resonance decaying into a charged lepton (electron or muon) and a neutrino is reported. A data sample of 139 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2015–2018 is used in the search. The ob.erved transverse mass distribution computed from the lepton and missing transverse momenta is consistent with the distribution expected from the Standard Model, and upper limits on the cross section for pp→W′→ℓν are extracted (ℓ=e or μ). These vary between 1.3 pb and 0.05 fb depending on the resonance mass in the range between 0.15 and 7.0 TeV at 95% confidence level for the electron and muon channels combined. Gauge bosons with a mass below 6.0 and 5.1 TeV are excluded in the electron and muon channels, respectively, in a model with a resonance that has couplings to fermions identical to those of the Standard Model W boson. Cross-section limits are also provided for resonances with several fixed Γ/m values in the range between 1% and 15%. Model-independent limits are derived in single-bin signal regions defined by a varying minimum transverse mass threshold. The resulting visib.e cross-section upper limits range between 4.6 (15) pb and 22 (22) ab as the threshold increases from 130 (110) GeV to 5.1 (5.1) TeV in the electron (muon) channel.

Studies of the fragmentation of jets into charged particles in heavy-ion collisions can provide information about the mechanism of jet quenching by the hot and dense QCD matter created in such collisions, the quark-gluon plasma. This paper presents a measurement of the angular distribution of charged particles around the jet axis in sNN=5.02 TeV Pb+Pb and pp collisions, using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The Pb+Pb and pp data sets have integrated luminosities of 0.49nb−1 and 25pb−1, respectively. The measurement is performed for jets reconstructed with the anti-kt algorithm with radius parameter R=0.4 and is extended to an angular distance of r=0.8 from the jet axis. Results are presented as a function of Pb+Pb collision centrality and distance from the jet axis for charged particles with transverse momenta in the 1- to 63-GeV range, matched to jets with transverse momenta in the 126- to 316-GeV range and an absolute value of jet rapidity of less than 1.7. Modifications to the measured distributions are quantified by taking a ratio to the measurements in pp collisions. Yields of charged particles with transverse momenta below 4 GeV are ob.erved to be increasingly enhanced as a function of angular distance from the jet axis, reaching a maximum at r=0.6. Charged particles with transverse momenta above 4 GeV have an enhanced yield in Pb+Pb collisions in the jet core for angular distances up to r=0.05 from the jet axis, with a suppression at larger distances.

This paper presents a measurement of quantities related to the formation of jets from high-energy quarks and gluons (fragmentation). Jets with transverse momentum 100 GeV eV and pseudorapidity |η|<2.1 from an integrated luminosity of 33 fb−1 of s=13 TeV proton-proton collisions are reconstructed with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Charged-particle tracks with pT>500 MeV and |η|<2.5 are used to probe the detailed structure of the jet. The fragmentation properties of the more forward and the more central of the two leading jets from each event are studied. The data are unfolded to correct for detector resolution and acceptance effects. Comparisons with parton shower Monte Carlo generators indicate that existing models provide a reasonab.e description of the data across a wide range of phase space, but there are also significant differences. Furthermore, the data are interpreted in the context of quark- and gluon-initiated jets by exploiting the rapidity dependence of the jet flavor fraction. A first measurement of the charged-particle multiplicity using model-independent jet labels (topic modeling) provides a promising alternative to traditional quark and gluon extractions using input from simulation. The simulations provide a reasonab.e description of the quark-like data across the jet pT range presented in -this measurement, but the gluon-like data have systematically fewer charged particles than the simulation.

A search is conducted for the electroweak pair production of a chargino and a neutralino pp→χ˜1±χ˜20, where the chargino decays into the lightest neutralino and a W boson, χ˜1±→χ˜10W±, while the neutralino decays into the lightest neutralino and a Standard Model-like 125 GeV Higgs boson, χ˜20→χ˜10h. Fully hadronic, semileptonic, diphoton, and multilepton (electrons, muons) final states with missing transverse momentum are considered in this search. Higgs bosons in the final state are identified by either two jets originating from bottom quarks (h→bb¯), two photons (h→γγ), or leptons from the decay modes h→WW, h→ZZ or h→ττ. The analysis is based on 36.1 fb−1 of s=13 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Ob.ervations are consistent with the Standard Model expectations, and 95% confidence-level limits of up to 680 GeV in χ˜1±/χ˜20 mass are set in the context of a simplified supersymmetric model.

Results are reported from a search for new particles that decay into a photon and two gluons, in events with jets. Novel jet substructure techniques are developed that allow photons to be identified in an environment densely populated with hadrons. The analyzed proton-proton collision data were collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, in 2016 at s=13 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The spectra of total transverse hadronic energy of candidate events are examined for deviations from the standard model predictions. No statistically significant excess is ob.erved over the expected background. The first cross section limits on new physics processes resulting in such events are set. The results are interpreted as upper limits on the rate of gluino pair production, utilizing a simplified stealth supersymmetry model. The excluded gluino masses extend up to 1.7 TeV, for a neutralino mass of 200 GeV and exceed previous mass constraints set by analyses targeting events with isolated photons.

A search for a light charged Higgs boson (H+) decaying to a W boson and a CP-odd Higgs boson (A) in final states with eμμ or μμμ is performed using data from pp collisions at s=13 TeV, recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. In this search, it is assumed that the H+ boson is produced in decays of top quarks, and the A boson decays to two oppositely charged muons. The presence of signals for H+ boson masses between 100 and 160 GeV and A boson masses between 15 and 75 GeV is investigated. No evidence for the production of the H+ boson is found. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are obtained on the combined branching fraction for the decay chain, t→bH+→bW+A→bW+μ+μ−, of 1.9×10−6 to 8.6×10−6, depending on the masses of the H+ and A bosons. These are the first limits for these decay modes of the H+ and A bosons.

A search for narrow low-mass resonances decaying to quark-antiquark pairs is presented. The search is based on proton-proton collision events collected at 13 TeV by the CMS detector at the CeRN LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1, recorded in 2016. The search considers the case where the resonance has high transverse momentum due to initial-state radiation of a hard photon. To study this process, the decay products of the resonance are reconstructed as a single large-radius jet with two-pronged substructure. The signal would be identified as a localized excess in the jet invariant mass spectrum. No evidence for such a resonance is ob.erved in the mass range 10 to 125 GeV. Upper limits at the 95% confidence level are set on the coupling strength of resonances decaying to quark pairs. The results obtained with this photon trigger strategy provide the first direct constraints on quark-antiquark resonance masses below 50 GeV obtained at a hadron collider.
