Jet energy scale measurements and their systematic uncertainties are reported for jets measured with the ATLAS detector using proton-proton collision data with a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb−1 collected during 2015 at the LHC. Jets are reconstructed from energy deposits forming topological clusters of calorimeter cells, using the anti-kt algorithm with radius parameter R=0.4. Jets are calibrated with a series of simulation-based corrections and in situ techniques. In situ techniques exploit the transverse momentum balance between a jet and a reference ob.ect such as a photon, Z boson, or multijet system for jets with 20eV and pseudorapidities of |η|<4.5, using both data and simulation. An uncertainty in the jet energy scale of less than 1% is found in the central calorimeter region (|η|<1.2) for jets with 100eV. An uncertainty of about 4.5% is found for low-pT jets with pT=20 GeV in the central region, dominated by uncertainties in the corrections for multiple proton-proton interactions. The calibration of forward jets (|η|>0.8) is derived from dijet pT balance measurements. For jets of pT=80 GeV, the additional uncertainty for the forward jet calibration reaches its largest value of about 2% in the range |η|>3.5 and in a narrow slice of 2.2<|η|<2.4.

This paper presents the extended results of measurements of W±W±jj production and limits on anomalous quartic gauge couplings using 20.3 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data at s=8 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. events with two leptons (e or μ) with the same electric charge and at least two jets are analyzed. Production cross sections are determined in two fiducial regions, with different sensitivities to the electroweak and strong production mechanisms. An additional fiducial region, particularly sensitive to anomalous quartic gauge coupling parameters α4 and α5, is introduced, which allows more stringent limits on these parameters compared to the previous ATLAS measurement.

A measurement of the production cross section for two isolated photons in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of s=8 TeV is presented. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb−1 recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The measurement considers photons with pseudorapidities satisfying |ηγ|<1.37 or 1.56<|ηγ|<2.37 and transverse energies of respectively eT,1γ>40 GeV and eT,2γ>30 GeV for the two leading photons ordered in transverse energy produced in the interaction. The background due to hadronic jets and electrons is subtracted using data-driven techniques. The fiducial cross sections are corrected for detector effects and measured differentially as a function of six kinematic ob.ervab.es. The measured cross section integrated within the fiducial volume is 16.8±0.8 pb. The data are compared to fixed-order QCD calculations at next-to-leading-order and next-to-next-to-leading-order accuracy as well as next-to-leading-order computations including resummation of initial-state gluon radiation at next-to-next-to-leading logarithm or matched to a parton shower, with relative uncertainties varying from 5% to 20%.

A measurement of the inclusive pp→tt¯+X production cross section in the τ+jets final state using only the hadronic decays of the τ lepton is presented. The measurement is performed using 20.2 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The cross section is measured via a counting experiment by imposing a set of selection criteria on the identification and kinematic variab.es of the reconstructed particles and jets, and on event kinematic variab.es and characteristics. The production cross section is measured to be σtt¯=239±29 pb, which is in agreement with the measurements in other final states and the theoretical predictions at this center-of-mass energy.

In this paper the authors present the i) idea of applying formal methods (formal specification techniques) to open standards' specifications, and ii) an example of a formal specification of open standards, RSS v2.0 in particular. The authors support and provide evidence for the advantages of the open standards formal specification over natural language documentations (the current way that open standards' specifications are released). Formal specifications are more concise and consistent than the ones written in natural languages, while significantly less ambiguous and more complete with respect to the original documentation. Furthermore, they are executab.e in many cases and highly reusab.e as most formal methods automated support tools allow for module inheritance. The merging of formal specification methods and open standards allows for i) a more concrete standard design;ii) an improved understanding of the environment under design;III) an enforced certain level of precision into the specification, and also iv) provides software engineers with extended property checking/verification capabilities, especially if they choose to use any of the algebraic specification languages. The authors showcase how the RSSv2.0 standard can formally be specified using the CafeObJ formal specification language and demonstrate why the particular formal specification is beneficial. © 2014 ACM.

This contribution is the preface of the volume of post-proceedings of the 10 th Italian Research Conference on Digital Libraries, IRCDL 2014. The volume contains the reports on the invited presentations and the accepted papers. The accepted papers were initially reviewed for presentation at the conference, and after the presentation the papers were resubmitted by the authors in a revised version that included the suggestions received during the presentation at the conference. The resubmitted versions of the papers were reviewed by at least three anonymous reviewers and the accepted papers were revised by the authors taking into considerations the reviewers’ suggestions.

Measurements of ZZ production in the ℓ+ℓ−ℓ′+ℓ′− channel in proton–proton collisions at 13 TeV center-of-mass energy at the Large Hadron Collider are presented. The data correspond to 36.1 fb−1 of collisions collected by the ATLAS experiment in 2015 and 2016. Here ℓ and ℓ′ stand for electrons or muons. Integrated and differential ZZ→ℓ+ℓ−ℓ′+ℓ′− cross sections with Z→ℓ+ℓ− candidate masses in the range of 66 GeV to 116 GeV are measured in a fiducial phase space corresponding to the detector acceptance and corrected for detector effects. The differential cross sections are presented in bins of twenty ob.ervab.es, including several that describe the jet activity. The integrated cross section is also extrapolated to a total phase space and to all standard model decays of Z bosons with mass between 66 GeV and 116 GeV, resulting in a value of 17.3±0.9[±0.6(stat)±0.5(syst)±0.6(lumi)] pb. The measurements are found to be in good agreement with the standard model. A search for neutral triple gauge couplings is performed using the transverse momentum distribution of the leading Z boson candidate. No evidence for such couplings is found and exclusion limits are set on their parameters.

We present the summary of results of the 2013 euroMoonMars-b analogue operations mission conducted at the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS). The two-week campaign involved a series of operations, human factors, and scientific exploration research towards goals of the International Lunar exploration Working Group (ILeWG). The primary research ob.ectives revolved around the operations to conduct field geology to identify targets of astrobiological interest, and to provide recommendations for future crewed expeditions for increasing the science return based on improved resource allocation. These activities include assessment of robotic and automation tools for assisting geologists to increase the efficiency of time spent on extra-vehicular activities (eVAs);crowd-sourced mapping to identify potential target regions to send the geologists on eVA based on orbital imagery;efficiency of crew time allocations;and habitat-based human factors to reduce stress levels during operations. Secondary ob.ectives towards those goals included a low-bandwidth earth-Moon time-delayed communications experiment.

The in-plane rotation of magnetic stripe domains in a 65-nm magnetostrictive Fe0.8Ga0.2 epitaxial film was investigated combining magnetic force microscopy, vibration sample magnetometry, and x-ray resonant magnetic scattering measurements. We analyzed the behavior of the stripe pattern under the application of a bias magnetic field along the in-plane direction perpendicular to the stripe axis, and made a comparison with the analogous behavior at remanence. The experimental results have b.en explained by means of micromagnetic simulations, supported by energy balance considerations. Fields smaller than ∼400 Oe do not induce any stripe rotation; rather, a deformation of the closure domains pattern was evidenced. Larger fields produce a sudden rotation of the stripe structure.

This contribution explains and analyzes the use of RFID (radio-frequency identification) for defining a complete traceability system applied to the food-production chain. The paper contains a summary of the actual work developed to test the ability of radio technologies to perform traceability at different food companies in a variety of sectors: wine, fish, and meat. each pilot experience is explained, with special emphasis on the radio segment implemented by RFID technologies and sensors, whether connected by wired or as elements of a wireless sensor network. The application of the new RFID-based system at the three investigated sectors, and the return on investment that the companies could obtain by its usage, are the core of the paper. © 2014 Ieee.
