We propose a `Touch-less finger print system', the hardware of which is limited to just a webcam and a processor. The present biometric systems are either costly or unhygienic, as a person who is perfectly healthy may acquire a disease from the system which was already used by a diseased person. For various reasons, users are concerned about touching the biometric scanners. even then fingerprint remains to be the most unique feature of any person. Webcams are concomitant with today's PCs and laptops making it easier to implement our system. Our proposal is basically a software that can be implemented anywhere with access to a PC and a webcam. We use a web camera to capture the user's finger at a distance for recognition. The finger image so obtained is isolated from the background and ridges are extracted. The finger print is then processed in euclidean space to obtain the minutiae points. Spurious minutiae are removed and the orientations and euclidean distances of the minutiae points are saved for future matching. The main applications of this system widens to almost all fields especially Personal security (PC, Laptops and Mobile Phones), Defense, Attendance, ATM etc.

This Letter presents a measurement of the inelastic proton-proton cross section using 60 μb−1 of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy s of 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Inelastic interactions are selected using rings of plastic scintillators in the forward region (2.07<|η|<3.86) of the detector. A cross section of 68.1±1.4 mb is measured in the fiducial region ξ=MX2/s>10−6, where MX is the larger invariant mass of the two hadronic systems separated by the largest rapidity gap in the event. In this ξ range the scintillators are highly efficient. For diffractive events this corresponds to cases where at least one proton dissociates to a system with MX>13 GeV. The measured cross section is compared with a range of theoretical predictions. When extrapolated to the full phase space, a cross section of 78.1±2.9 mb is measured, consistent with the inelastic cross section increasing with center-of-mass energy.

A search for the decays of the Higgs and Z bosons to a ϕ meson and a photon is performed with a pp collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.7 fb−1 collected at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. No significant excess of events is ob.erved above the background, and 95% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions of the Higgs and Z boson decays to ϕγ of 1.4×10−3 and 8.3×10−6, respectively, are obtained.

The ZZ production cross section in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV center-of-mass energy is measured using 3.2 fb−1 of data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The considered Z boson candidates decay to an electron or muon pair of mass 66–116 GeV. The cross section is measured in a fiducial phase space reflecting the detector acceptance. It is also extrapolated to a total phase space for Z bosons in the same mass range and of all decay modes, giving 16.7−2.0+2.2(stat)+0.9−0.7(syst)+1.0−0.7(lumi) pb. The results agree with standard model predictions.

In interactive multi-screen visualization environments, every output device has to be constantly supplied with video information. Such visualization environments often use large projection screens, which require high resolution visualization data. An efficient approach to master this challenge is to distribute the workload to multiple low-cost computer systems. Nowadays' game consoles are very powerful and specialized for interactive graphics applications;therefore they are well suited to be applied for computational expensive rendering purposes in real-time applications. The proposed solution (dXNA) has b.en developed on Microsoft's XNA Game Studio. It supports interactive distributed rendering on multiple Xbox 360 and PC setups. Application logic synchronization and network session management are completely handled by dXNA. The interface of dXNA is similar to XNA Game Studio's interface, which allows for efficient porting of existing projects. It has b.en proven that dXNA is an efficient and lightweight solution for distributed rendering for interactive multi-screen visualization environments. © 2013 Springer-Verlag berlin Heidelberg.

A search for Higgs-boson pair production in the bb¯bb¯ final state is carried out with 3.2 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data collected at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector. The data are consistent with the estimated background and are used to set upper limits on the production cross section of Higgs-boson pairs times branching ratio to bb¯bb¯ for both nonresonant and resonant production. In the case of resonant production of Kaluza-Klein gravitons within the Randall-Sundrum model, upper limits in the 24 to 91 fb range are obtained for masses between 600 and 3000 GeV, at the 95% confidence level. The production cross section times branching ratio for nonresonant Higgs-boson pairs is also constrained to be less than 1.22 pb, at the 95% confidence level.

This paper presents a search for massive charged long-lived particles produced in pp collisions at s=13 TeV at the LHC using the ATLAS experiment. The data set used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb−1. Many extensions of the Standard Model predict the existence of massive charged long-lived particles, such as R-hadrons. These massive particles are expected to be produced with a velocity significantly below the speed of light, and therefore to have a specific ionization higher than any Standard Model particle of unit charge at high momenta. The Pixel subsystem of the ATLAS detector is used to measure the ionization energy loss of reconstructed charged particles and to search for such highly ionizing particles. The search presented here has much greater sensitivity than a similar search performed using the ATLAS detector in the s=8 TeV data set, thanks to the increase in expected signal cross section due to the higher center-of-mass energy of collisions, to an upgraded detector with a new silicon layer close to the interaction point, and to analysis improvements. No significant deviation from Standard Model background expectations is ob.erved, and lifetime-dependent upper limits on R-hadron production cross sections and masses are set. Gluino R-hadrons with lifetimes above 0.4 ns and decaying to qq¯ plus a 100 GeV neutralino are excluded at the 95% confidence level, with lower mass limit ranging between 740 and 1590 GeV. In the case of stab.e R-hadrons the lower mass limit at the 95% confidence level is 1570 GeV.

Measurements of normalized differential cross sections of top quark pair (tt¯) production are presented as a function of the mass, the transverse momentum and the rapidity of the tt¯ system in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of s=7 and 8 TeV. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb−1 at 7 TeV and 20.2 fb−1 at 8 TeV, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. events with top quark pair signatures are selected in the dilepton final state, requiring exactly two charged leptons and at least two jets with at least one of the jets identified as likely to contain a b hadron. The measured distributions are corrected for detector effects and selection efficiency to cross sections at the parton level. The differential cross sections are compared with different Monte Carlo generators and theoretical calculations of tt¯ production. The results are consistent with the majority of predictions in a wide kinematic range.

Searches for exclusively produced W boson pairs in the process pp(γγ)→pW+W−p and an exclusively produced Higgs boson in the process pp(gg)→pHp have b.en performed using e±μ∓ final states. These measurements use 20.2 fb−1 of pp collisions collected by the ATLAS experiment at a center-of-mass energy s=8 TeV at the LHC. exclusive production of W+W− consistent with the Standard Model prediction is found with 3.0σ significance. The exclusive W+W− production cross section is determined to be σ(γγ→W+W−→e±μ∓X)=6.9±2.2(stat)±1.4(sys) fb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction. Limits on anomalous quartic gauge couplings are set at 95% confidence level as −1.7×10−6eV−2 and −6.4×10−6eV−2. A 95% confidence-level upper limit on the total production cross section for an exclusive Higgs boson is set to 1.2 pb.

A search for supersymmetry involving the pair production of gluinos decaying via third-generation squarks to the lightest neutralino (χ˜10) is reported. It uses an LHC proton-proton data set at a center-of-mass energy s=13 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb−1 collected with the ATLAS detector in 2015. The signal is searched for in events containing several energetic jets, of which at least three must be identified as b jets, large missing transverse momentum, and, potentially, isolated electrons or muons. Large-radius jets with a high mass are also used to identify highly boosted top quarks. No excess is found above the predicted background. For χ˜10 masses below approximately 700 GeV, gluino masses of less than 1.78 TeV and 1.76 TeV are excluded at the 95% C.L. in simplified models of the pair production of gluinos decaying via sbottom and stop, respectively. These results significantly extend the exclusion limits obtained with the s=8 TeV data set.
