Accurate segmentation of the ventricles plays a crucial role in determining cardiac functional parameters such as ventricular volume, ventricular mass, and ejection fraction. However, poor image quality, such as inadequate coverage of the left ventricle (LV) and right ventricle (RV) in cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) image sequences, can significantly affect the assessment of cardiac function. This study investigates issues related to missing or corrupted imaging planes, which often lead to incomplete ventricle coverage. To address the challenge of estimating ventricle coverage in CMR images regardless of variations in imaging parameters such as device type, magnetic field strength, and protocol execution, we introduce a novel convolutional neural network (CNN) based on adversarial learning. Additionally, we integrate supplementary information (e.g., cross-view image data) as privileged information to enhance the interpretability of our model's predictions and identify potential biases or inaccuracies. This research represents the first attempt to automatically estimate ventricular coverage by identifying missing slices and plane orientations in CMR images using a dataset-agnostic approach. The effectiveness of the proposed model is demonstrated through the evaluation of datasets from three diverse and sizab.e.image acquisition cohorts, demonstrating superior performance compared to existing methods. © 2020 Ieee.

Digital Twin-Assisted Load-balanced User Association and AoI-Aware Scheduling in IoT Networks

In this paper, we propose a digital twin (DT) assisted-user device (UD)-base station (bS) association for cellular-supported internet of things (IoT) networks, and scheduling of uplink transmission of these devices to their associated bSs considering the age of information (AoI). Unlike existing work, we consider the scenario of a main base station (MbS) and several smaller base stations (SbSs), which is suitab.e.for 5G and beyond 5G technology. We propose a novel Q-learning-inspired algorithm for simultaneous uplink throughput maximization and load balancing among the different bSs to associate the UDs away from the MbS and distribute them evenly between the SbSs as much as possib.e. We further take into account the maximum UD-association limit and limited coverage radius of each bS, which makes it closer to a realistic scenario. Another contribution is the proposal and analysis of heuristics-based scheduling of the UDs transmission to their respective bSs with the aim to reduce the overall AoI. Scheduling is important as many applications in the IoT networks require near-time or near-real-time updates for taking timely decisions and maintaining acceptab.e.performance and safety levels. The AoI is an effective metric for the timeliness of information at a receiver, and the computational simplicity of the heuristics-based approach ensures that the scheduling decisions are taken promptly. Simulations results and comparison with several benchmark methods show that the proposed solution can achieve load balancing with a slight degradation in the cumulative maximum achievab.e.throughput achieved in the network. The results also provide valuab.e.insights into the joint performance of the proposed model and the benchmark UD-bS association and scheduling solutions with different packet generation rates for transmission by the UDs. © 2013 Ieee.

TrustChain: A blockchain Framework for Auditing and Verifying Aggregators in Decentralized Federated Learning

The server-less nature of Decentralized Federated Learning (DFL) requires allocating the aggregation role to specific participants in each federated round. Current DFL architectures ensure the trustworthiness of the aggregator node upon selection. However, most of these studies overlook the possibility that the aggregating node may turn rogue and act maliciously after being nominated. To address this prob.e., this paper proposes a DFL structure, called TrustChain, that scores the aggregators before selection based on their past behavior and additionally audits them after the aggregation. To do this, the statistical independence between the client updates and the aggregated model is continuously monitored using the Hilbert-Schmidt Independence Criterion (HSIC). The proposed method relies on several principles, including blockchain, anomaly detection, and concept drift analysis. The growing interests in utilizing Photovoltaic (PV) systems are usually faced with challenges of accurate and reliab.e.protection of these distributed generation units. A desired protection of PV systems has to effectively and accurately detect and respond to internal faults (within the PV system) and external faults (in the host grid and/or fed loads). This article presents and tests the performance of a digital ground fault protection (DGFP) for grid-connected PV systems. The presented DGFP detects faults based on the energy contents of high frequency sub-bands of the ground current. These energy contents are extracted using the phaselet transform that can process signals with non-stationary variations in their phases. energy contents of the high frequency sub-bands can provide accurate, fast, and reliab.e.detection and identification of faults experienced by a PV system operated. The phaselet transform (PHT)-based DGFP is implemented for performance testing using PV systems that are operated in the grid-connected mode, and sub.e.ted to various fault and non-fault events. Performance results demonstrate accurate, fast, and reliab.e.detection and response to different types of fault and non-fault events. Response features of the PHT-based DGFP are complimented with minor sensitivity to the level of power production and/or type and location of faults. © 1972-2012 Ieee.

Global Attitude Synchronization for Multi-agent Systems on SO(3)

In this paper, we address the prob.e. of attitude synchronization for a group of rigid body systems evolving on SO(3). The interaction among these systems is modeled through an undirected, connected, and acyclic graph topology. First, we present an almost global continuous distributed attitude synchronization scheme with rigorously proven stability guarantees. Thereafter, we propose two global distributed hybrid attitude synchronization schemes on SO(3). The first scheme is a hybrid control law that leverages angular velocities and relative orientations to achieve global alignment to a common orientation. The second scheme eliminates the dependence on angular velocities by introducing dynamic auxiliary variab.e., while ensuring global asymptotic attitude synchronization. This velocity-free control scheme relies exclusively on attitude information. Nonlinear Ob.e.ver Design for Landmark-Inertial Simultaneous Localization and Mapping

This paper addresses the prob.e. of Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) for rigid body systems in three-dimensional space. We introduce a new matrix Lie group Se3+n(3), whose elements are composed of the pose, gravity, linear velocity and landmark positions, and propose an almost globally asymptotically stab.e.nonlinear geometric ob.e.ver that integrates Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) data with landmark measurements. The proposed ob.e.ver estimates the pose and map up to a constant position and a constant rotation about the gravity direction. Numerical simulations are provided to validate the performance and effectiveness of the proposed ob.e.ver, demonstrating its potential for robust SLAM applications. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. Modeling of Four-Winged Micro Ornithopters Inspired by Dragonflies

In this paper, we present a full dynamical model of a four-winged micro ornithopter inspired by a dragonfly-type insect. The micro ornithopter is modeled as four articulated rigid body components (wings) connected to the main body via spherical joints. The dynamical model is derived using Lagrangian mechanics with intrinsic global coordinates, without relying on the common assumptions that neglect the wings-body interactions. Furthermore, the aerodynamic forces are modeled under the quasi-steady motion assumption without restricting the flapping frequency to be relatively high. This provides a full and elegant four-winged micro ornithopter model that captures the interaction between the body and the wings while avoiding the complexities and singularities associated with other coordinate representations (e.g., euler angles). Simulation studies of the inertial effects of the relative motion between the different parts of the multibody system show the importance of considering the forces and torques, resulting from the wings-body interaction, in motion generation of these insects.

equilibrium optimizer (eO) is a new proposed meta-heuristic algorithm by utilizing the mass balance model of the control volume. In order to solve the binary appli-cations, this paper proposes a binary version of equilibrium optimizer (beO). beO takes advantage of the structure of eO, only modifying the equations of equilibrium concentra-tion and position updating. Through the benchmark functions and Wilcoxon’s rank sum test, it compares beO with binary bat algorithm, binary differential evolution, binary grey wolf optimizer, binary particle swarm optimization, and a binary hybrid algorithm of particle swarm optimization and gravitational search algorithm. beO shows excep-tional performance in the solving quality, time complexity and convergence. Reaction Systems (RSs) were introduced in the field of natural computing as a qualitative model inspired by biological systems. In a RS, each reaction comprises a set of reactants that generate products unless inhibited by reaction inhibitors. We propose a method for analyzing the attractors of a RS model (the states to which the system converges) and for identifying the entities responsib.e.for their attainment. Our approach builds on (i) the construction of a Labeled Transition System (LTS) based on a formal SOS semantics of RSs, and (ii) the application of a slicing method to the trajectories within the LTS. Our model analysis provides new insights with respect to previous studies. We illustrate our methodology on a case study that demonstrates its capability to identify stimulus combinations that lead to specific phenotypes, but also to elucidate the involvement of proteins within T cells in each scenario. These findings allow for a better understanding of the phenomenon and for the identification of potential drug targets for diseases. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
