In 1970 he joined the NTT Musashino Electrical Communication Laboratories and engaged in developing PIPS-1 and PIPS-11 computer systems. In 1988 he joined the Department of Computer Science Tokyo Institute of Technology as an Associate Professor. In 1990 he became a full Professor. He was a Visiting Professor at the Center for Advanced Computer Studies the University of Southwestern Louisiana from June 1985 to July 1986. His current research interests include coding theory for computers fault-tolerant memories VLSI defect-toleranceand WSI systems. He is a co-author ofError Control Coding for Computer Systems(Prentice-Hall1989) EssentiaLF of Error-Correcting Coding Techniques (Academic Press 1990) and other books. Dr. Fujiwara received the Young Engineer Award from the I.E.I.C.E. in 1978 and the Teshima Memorial Research Award in 1991. 作者: DeHaemer, DJ Dr. Michael J. DeHaemer:is Director of the World Technology Evaluation Center and the Japanese Technology Evaluation Center at Loyola College in Baltimore. He has directed more than a dozen studies of technologies in foreign countries under the sponsorship of the National Science Foundation ARPA Departments of Energy and Commerce and other agencies. He has a continuing interest in assessing foreign technologies in comparison to the United States.—-On the faculty of the Sellinger School of Business at Loyola College Dr. DeHaemer is a former department chairman and an associate professor of information systems and decision sciences. He teaches the strategic use of information technology and human-computer interface design. His research includes user performance with automated speech recognition systems for computers and business applications of artificial intelligence. Dr. DeHaemer completed an earlier career as a submarine officer including command of a ballistic missile submarine. He holds a B.S. degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Master's degree in Operations Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School. He has an M.B.A. an M.S. in Industrial Engineering and a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Heil received a B.S. from Manhattan College and an M.S. from New York University in civil engineering and is a licensed professional engineer in New York. He is a former president of the New York State Solid Waste Management Association. John A. Black is the coordinator of the environmental science program at Suffolk County Community College (Environmental Science Program Suffolk County Community College Selden NY 11784). He is currently the chair of the Ecology Committee of the Pine Barrens Advisory Committee for Suffolk County and is a member of the Suffolk County Pine Barrens Review Commission. Black received a B.S. in chemistry from Adephi University an M.S. in public administration from the University at Stony Book an M. S. from Hofstra University and a Ph. D. from Adlephi in marine sciences.

He received his B.S. degree in Systems Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1983 and his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School in 1990. He has served in several positions on board Sturgeon and Los Angeles class nuclear fast attack submarines including three years as Combat Systems Officer on USS Helena (SSN 725). He has been in his current assignment at the Cruise Missiles Project since June 1994 with primary responsibility for the Submarine ATWCS program.

The platforms involved included T-AGOS 39. CG 47.DD 963 FFG 7. FF 1052. SSN 637 and SSBN 640 Classes. He earned his B.S. in Ocean Engi-meringfrom Florida Atlantic University and his B.S. in Biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He received a Meritorious Civilian Service Award for his work on SWATH Acoustics and integrated testing. Thomas C. Slotwinski:is the Manager of the Rockville Maryland office of Applied Measurement Systems Inc. He provides technical support for surface ship silencing programs for NAVSEA 03T and submarine acoustic measurement programs for CDNSWC. Mr. Sbtwinski has over 25 years experience in RDT &E programs related to submarine and surface ship silencing ship acoustic and vibration characteristics ship design sonar system engineering and acoustic measurement and analysis programs. He has participated extensively in at-sea measurements and acoustic design experiments for all operational classes of submarines most classes of ASW surface combatants and a number of special purpose surface ships. He has developed and evaluated acoustic and vibration performance goals for specific systems ship components and total ship characteristics. Mr. Slotwinski has conducted several inter-disciplinary efforts to identify noise sources mechanisms and propagation characteristics on several different surface ship and submarine platforms. This effort has been primarily in support of the TRIDENT and SEAWOLF submarine programs and the T-AGOS 39 and T-AGOS 19 surface ship programs. Mr. Slotwinski has B.S. and M.S. degrees in Physics from John Carroll University. In the 1960s he worked on the synthesis of ruby and sapphire crystals for lasers. He has been with the Naval Ocean Systems Center (NOSC—now NR aD) since 1964. He worked with the development of new rare-earth chelates for dye lasers which were used in prototype optical communication projects at NOSC. In 1981. he developed and demonstrated the first laser-addressed liquid crystal light valve large-screen projection display system operating at video scan rates. His work as project leader for the Command Control Technology Task at NR aD involves advancing laser light valve display technology. His current interests are in the development of direct-view high-resolution laser displays using acousto-optic devices and in 3-D volumetric displays using high-speed acousto-optic scanning and a nonmoving volume screen. Mr. Trias has 15 patents and has authored 35 technical publications Malvyn C. McDonald:received both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering in 1971 and 1976 respectively from San Diego State University. He has twenty-three years of engineering experience with professional emphasis on design and development of shipboard submarine and shore-based communication systems electronics and optics packaging systems and structural and dynamic mechanical systems. 作者: ERKER, GJ DODDs, DE KRZYMIEN, WA David E. Dodds was born in Saskatoon Canada in 1945. He received the B. Eng. and MSc. degrees from the University of Saskatchewan in 1966 and 1968 respectively. He worked with Bell Northern Research (Ottawa) on PBX design in 1969 1972 and 1978. Since 1969 he has been with the University of Saskatchewan where he is currently Professor of Electrical Engineering. He teaches courses in electronics and communications and also presents short courses on the fundamentals of telephony. Current research interests are in data transmission signal processing architecture and frame synchronization for PCM and spread spectrum systems. He has been granted five patents relating to commercial products in delta-modulation telephone line interfacing and computer data transmission. In 1986 he was on sabbatical leave at BNR Inc. and worked with an ANSI committee on the standardization of FDDI-II a combined voice and data system. Mr. Dodds is a Registered Consulting Engineer in Saskatchewan. Witold A. Krzyden received his MSc. (Eng.) and Ph.D. degrees (both in Electrical Engineering) in 1970 and 1978 respectively from the Poznan Technical University in Poznan Poland. He was awarded the Minister's of Science and Technology Prize of Excellence for his Ph.D. thesis. From 1970 to 1978 he was a Research Engineer and Teaching Assistant and then from 1978 to 1980 an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Poznan Technical University. In 1980 he won a Dutch Government Research Fellowship at the Twente University of Technology in Enschede the Netherlands for the year of 1980/1981. In the following year of 1981/82 he was a Research Assistant Professor there. From 1982 to 1986 he was an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay Ontario Canada.
