Implementation of expert systems in potassium deficiency in cocoa plants using forward chaining method

As one of the largest exporters in the world, cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) production in Indonesia provides an important contribution to the plantation sector that can, directly and indirectly, attribute to the national economic development. However, recent data shows a decline in cocoa productivity in Indonesia. This is arguably caused by various factors, including poor agricultural management and practices in cocoa plantations, that may lead to lower fertility in the soil and an increased risk of diseases and pests. Potassium deficiency is a major contributing factor to the low soil fertility that affects cocoa yields. Therefore, in this work, we implement an application with an expert system utilizing the forward chaining method to detect potassium deficiency in cocoa plants and then give a fertilization-based recommendation based on the plants’ condition. The system employs a set of rules to identify symptoms related to the deficiency on the sample photo of a cocoa leaf according to the channels of red, green, and blue of the image. The sample images of cocoa leaves are submitted to the application with an easy-to-use interface that can show the scanning result and proceed to display the suggested quantity of fertilizers to prevent potassium deficiency. Implementing the system can contribute constructive impacts to improve current practices in the overall cropping system of cocoa plants.

Food sustainability is still one of the main priorities for many countries as it contributes to the economy and stability of the nation. For government in many countries whose peoples consumes rice as its staple food, food self-sufficiency initiatives highly depend on accurate prediction of paddy field map. Mapping paddy field task is a challenging problem which cannot be handled manually especially when the paddy fields are spread out in very wide geographical areas such as those in Indonesia. Fortunately, wide availability of satellite imagery and the advent of deep learning technology in the past ten years have made it possible to improve efficiency of most parts of those manual works involving image semantic segmentation tasks. However, satellite image-based semantic segmentation is a challenging task. High object complexity, cloud partial occlusion, larger image size than a computer memory can stored can hinder accuracy of the image segmentation results. This paper presents a method for paddy field map generating using semantic image segmentation approach in which Pyramid Scene Parsing Net model is used for segmenting satellite imagery. The generated paddy map can be used as a basis for decision-making, especially in the agricultural sector. Analysis of local land use/land cover dynamics. The results of his experiments using SPOT 6 satellite imagery from the Pahung region of Central Kalimantan achieved average training accuracy, best training accuracy and test accuracy of 0.85, 0.86 and 0.89 respectively. These results indicated that the semantic segmentation model is suitable for addressing the same task in different crops. © 2022 IEEE.

Dynamic programming is a fundamental algorithm that can be found in our daily lives easily. One of the dynamic programming algorithm implementations consists of solving the 0/1 knapsack problem. A 0/1 knapsack problem can be seen from industrial production cost. It is prevalent that a production cost has to be as efficient as possible, but the expectation is to get the proceeds of the products higher. Thus, the dynamic programming algorithm can be implemented to solve the diverse knapsack problem, one of which is the 0/1 knapsack problem, which would be the main focus of this paper. The implementation was implemented using C language. This paper was created as an early implementation algorithm using a Dynamic program algorithm applied to an Automatic Identification System (AIS) dataset. © 2023 IEEE.

The spread of Corona Virus Disease 19 (COVID-19) in Indonesia is still relatively high and has not shown a significant decrease. One of the main reasons is due to the lack of supervision on the implementation of health protocols such as wearing masks in daily activities. Recently, state-of-the-art algorithms were introduced to automate face mask detection. To be more specific, the researchers developed various kinds of architectures for the detection of masks based on computer vision methods. This paper aims to evaluate well-known architectures, namely the ResNet50, VGG11, InceptionV3, EfficientNetB4, and YOLO (You Only Look Once) to recommend the best approach in this specific field. By using the MaskedFace-Net dataset, the experimental results showed that the EfficientNetB4 architecture has better accuracy at 95.77% compared to the YOLOv4 architecture of 93.40%, InceptionV3 of 87.30%, YOLOv3 of 86.35%, ResNet50 of 84.41%, VGG11 of 84.38%, and YOLOv2 of 78.75%, respectively. It should be noted that particularly for YOLO, the model was trained using a collection of MaskedFace-Net images that had been pre-processed and labelled for the task. The model was initially able to train faster with pre-trained weights from the COCO dataset thanks to transfer learning, resulting in a robust set of features expected for face mask detection and classification.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a type of diabetes mellitus that attacks the retina of the eye. DR will cause patients to experience blindness slowly. Generally, DR can be detected by using a special instrument called an ophthalmoscope to view the inside of the eyeball. However, in conditions where there is a very small difference between the normal image and the DR image, computer-based assistance is needed for maximizing image reading value. In this research, a method of image quality improvement will be carried out which will then be integrated with a classification algorithm based on deep learning. The results of image improvement using Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) shows that the average accuracy of the method on several models is very competitive, 91% for the VGG16 model, 95% for InceptionV3, and 97% for EfficientNet compared to the results original image which only has an accuracy of 87% for VGG16 model, 90% for InceptionV3 model, and 95% for EfficientNet. However, in ResNet34 better accuracy is obtained in the original image with an accuracy of 95% while in the CLAHE image the accuracy value is only 84%. The results of this comprehensive evaluation and recommendation of famous backbone networks can be useful in the computer-aided diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy.

MOOCs are one of the developments or impacts of e-learning or online learning. Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is one of the choices for students to increase their knowledge through non-formal channels. Our research aims to determine the level of readiness of students regarding MOOC learning and opportunities for utilizing recommendation systems in students' decision-making regarding selecting MOOCs that suit their interests and needs. We conducted a survey regarding the constraints and needs of learner readiness through 5 aspects, namely 1) technical aspect, (2) social aspect, (3) communication aspect, (4) lecture readiness aspect, and (5) online discussion. The results of this research show that the main challenges that MOOC participants may face in a MOOC environment are Technical Aspects (28.25%), Social Aspects (21.47%), and Communication Aspects (18.93%). Meanwhile, the greatest strength of online learning in the MOOC environment is the social aspect (21%), the most influential and continued with technical and other aspects. Meanwhile, the lecture readiness aspect is quite good, and the online discussion aspect is the biggest aspect that influences the success of MOOC learning. Other results of this research indicate the importance of a recommendation system for MOOC students to make it easier for students to choose the right MOOC according to their interests and needs.

Ant colony optimization with semi random initialization for nurse rostering problem

A nurse rostering problem is an NP-Hard problem that is difficult to solve during the complexity of the problem. Since good scheduling is the schedule that fulfilled the hard constraint and minimizes the violation of soft constraint, a lot of approaches is implemented to improve the quality of the schedule. This research proposed an improvement on ant colony optimization with semi-random initialization for nurse rostering problems. Semi-random initialization is applied to avoid violation of the hard constraint, and then the violation of soft constraint will be minimized using ant colony optimization. Semi-random initialization will improve the construction solution phase by assigning nurses directly to the shift that is related to the hard constraint, so the violation of hard constraint will be avoided from the beginning part. The scheduling process will complete by pheromone value by giving weight to the rest available shift during the ant colony optimization process. This proposed method is tested using a real-world problem taken from St. General Hospital Elisabeth. The objective function is formulated to minimize the violation of the constraints and balance nurse workload. The performance of the proposed method is examined by using different dimension problems, with the same number of ant and iteration. The proposed method is also compared to conventional ant colony optimization and genetic algorithm for performance comparison. The experiment result shows that the proposed method performs better with small to medium dimension problems. The semi-random initialization is a success to avoid violation of the hard constraint and minimize the objective value by about 24%. The proposed method gets the lowest objective value with 0,76 compared to conventional ant colony optimization with 124 and genetic algorithm with 1. © S. Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition characterized by extreme mental states ranging from manic highs to depressive lows. Early intervention is crucial to prevent progression and complications of bipolar disorder, which can lead to significant loss. This study proposes a framework to detect bipolar disorder based on crowdsourced symptoms in the form of free texts. We extract the features by transforming these free-text symptoms into binary features using a set of natural language processing techniques. We build support vector machine models with different kernel functions and penalized logistic regression models with different penalty functions, where the best models have a precision of 0.7, recall of 0.78, F1 score of 0.74, and accuracy of 0.88. Moreover, the models are explainable since we incorporate a model-agnostic explanation method called Shapley additive explanations to understand the symptoms that mostly contributed to the prediction of bipolar disorder. The models presented in this study can be implemented in the initial screening process of bipolar disorder for further examination.

One of the biggest challenges in Music Information Retrieval (MIR) is classification. MIR is a subset of Machine Learning (ML), where the methods found in computer science can be used to solve problems in the music domain area. Indonesia is an archipelago country inhabited by around 1,340 ethnic groups spread across 38 provinces. This ethnic group has a variety of cultures, including folk songs, and almost every area in Indonesia has folk songs. In this study, we conducted a regional classification of 500 Indonesian folk songs from 10 regions in Indonesia. We build a model for regional classification tasks using the MIR approach. This model combines feature selection and dimension reduction capabilities. By using hyperparameter tunning and a cross- validation of 5 folds, the result of our proposed model for regional classification of Indonesian folk songs using K-NN with PCC-LDA can obtain an accuracy rate of 84.7%.

Oil Palm Fruits Dataset in Plantations for Harvest Estimation Using Digital Census and Smartphone

This article presents a dataset of oil palm Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFBs) images from commercial plantations in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, focusing on five maturity stages: Unripe, Underripe, Ripe, Flower, and Abnormal. The data collection involved smartphone video recordings of unharvested trees from multiple angles under varying conditions. Video frames were extracted and expertly annotated using computer Vision Annotation Tool (CVAT), with annotations exported in Common Objects in Context (COCO) format suitable for object detection tasks. It has 10,207 images in its training set, 2,896 in the validation set, and 1,400 in the test set, which are supplemented using data augmentation to handle class imbalance and increase variation. These images have real-world complications arising from partial visibility, low contrast, occlusion, and blurriness. It forms the basis that will support the development of deep learning models for detection and classification of FFB, particularly for monitoring of harvest times, yield prediction, and optimization of resources in plantation operations.
