The paper presents a theoretical approach and implementing issue for automatic CNC toolpath generation using morphological image processing operators applied to dept. map images. This method allows computing cutter compensation for various end mill shapes. Roughing is made using zigzag cuts with a flat end mill, and finishing is done with isoparametric toolpaths using various rounded end mills. An AI-based algorithm and image processing software create CNC machining instructions from dept. map image models. The paper also describes a graphical user interface and includes experimental results.

One of the most important problems when considering the design of manufacturing systems based on SOA paradigms is the integration of shop floor activities in the business processes at enterprise level. This paper presents the design and implementation of a web service abstraction layer for holonic manufacturing systems that allow business process orchestration of customer order management module. It focuses on enhancements implemented for the NetLogo tool by adding both incoming and outgoing Web Services capabilities and discusses the technical solutions for this integration. An example is being provided for the integration and testing of a business process against the considered environment.

This paper presents a formal methodology to perform a cost analysis for the customer order management (COM) process in the context of holonic manufacturing systems. The business process described in the paper, centred on COM, interconnects reference architecture with several enhancements that help in the mapping of the financial relevant activities. The process is analysed from two perspectives, first to show how the resource break-down rate in the HMES influences the overall profit and secondly to show the relationship between the percentage of products that fail the quality assurance test and the overall profit. The process was simulated using a BPM tool and the results are discussed.

Abstract Long distance teleoperation formulates a current control problem task yet to be solved, primarily due to the difficulty to compensate for signal latency. Predictive and model-based control can only give satisfying results if proper description of the system's behavior is provided. The interdisciplinary field of telesurgery has become a focal point of technology-extended medicine, where master–slave type control over large distances poses significant challenges. Innovative solutions are required to deal with the modeling human teleoperation and varying communication quality parameters. In this paper, we investigate the feasibility a more straight-forward, classical control solution based on Kessler's Extended Symmetrical Method, formulated in a cascade control approach to tackle the problems caused by latency and uncertainties in a modeled telesurgical robot system.
