This work is part of a larger project exploring how affective computing can support the design of player-adaptive video games. We investigate how controlling some of the game mechanics using biofeedback affects physiological reactions, performance, and the experience of the player. More specifically, we assess how different game speeds affect player physiological responses and game performance. We developed a game prototype with Unity1 which includes a biofeedback loop system based on the level of physiological activation through skin resistance (SKR) measured with a smart wristband. In two conditions, the player moving speed was driven by SKR, to increase (respectively decrease) speed when the player is less activated (SKR decreases). A control condition was also used where player speed is not affected by SKR. We collected and synchronized biosignals (heart rate [HR], skin temperature [SKT] and SKR), and game information, such as the total time to complete a level, the number of ennemy collisions, and their timestamps. Additionally, emotional profiling (TIPI, I-Panas-SF), measured using a Likert scale in a post-task questionnaire, and semi-open questions about the game experience were used. The results show that SKR was significantly higher in the speed down condition, and game performance improved in the speed up condition. Study collected data involved 13 participants (10 males, 3 females) aged from 18 to 50 (M = 24.30, SD = 9.00). Most of the participants felt engaged with the game (M = 6.46, SD = 0.96) and their level of immersion was not affected by wearing the prototype smartband. Thematic analysis (TA) revealed that the game speed impacted the participants stress levels such as high speed was more stressful than hypothesized;many participants described game level-specific effects in which they felt that their speed of movement reflected their level of stress or relaxation. Despite achieving remarkable performance, Federated Learning (FL) encounters two important problems, i.e., low training efficiency and limited computational resources. In this article, we propose a new FL framework, i.e., FedDUMAP, with three original contributions, to leverage the shared insensitive data on the server in addition to the distributed data in edge devices so as to efficiently train a global model. First, we propose a simple dynamic server update algorithm, which takes advantage of the shared insensitive data on the server while dynamically adjusting the update steps on the server in order to speed up the convergence and improve the accuracy. Second, we propose an adaptive optimization method with the dynamic server update algorithm to exploit the global momentum on the server and each local device for superior accuracy. Third, we develop a layer-adaptive model pruning method to carry out specific pruning operations, which is adapted to the diverse features of each layer so as to attain an excellent tradeoff between effectiveness and efficiency. Our proposed FL model, FedDUMAP, combines the three original techniques and has a significantly better performance compared with baseline approaches in terms of efficiency (up to 16.9 times faster), accuracy (up to 20.4% higher), and computational cost (up to 62.6% smaller). © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). With the growing demand for global trade transportation, the shipping container market has gained an increasingly important position. As a key issue of the market, container pricing is regarded as an important indicator to adjust the market supply and demand as well as the revenue of liner enterprises. Although various methods aimed at increasing enterprise revenue, such as expert pricing and dynamic pricing, have been proposed by industry and academia in recent years, these approaches rarely yield worst-case performance guarantee for the double-sided online scenarios of commodities and *** cater to the double-sided online scenario and provide theoretical performance guarantee, we propose an online learning-based pricing framework named Balancing Inventory and Revenue with -chasing Decider (BIRD). BIRD determines container price by combining advantages of given multiple online pricing strategies. We utilize a strategy selector A to select a proper target strategy and use an ϵ-chasing decider DChasing to determine the price. BIRD is proven to combine the advantages of multiple online pricing strategies to achieve the performance close to the posterior optimal strategy for any sequence of online buyers on realistic sales platforms with inventory limitation. BIRD is proved to yield a vanishing regret for the online posted pricing problem with the features of limited inventory and multi-unit demand. Based on the historical data provided by COSCO, one of the largest liner enterprises in the world, we experimentally demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. © 2023 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming an active research area because of its largescale challenges and implementation. But security is the major concern while seeing the dramatic expansion in its applications and size. It is challenging to independently put security mechanism in all the IoT devices and upgrade it according to newer threats. Furthermore, machine learning (ML) techniques could better apply the massive quantity of data produced by IoT devices. Thus, several Deep Learning (DL) based algorithms were introduced for detecting attacks in IoT. Therefore, this study develops a galactic swarm optimization with Deep Learning based Attack Detection and Classification (GSODL-ADC) Model in IoT Environment. The presented GSODL-ADC technique concentrates on the identification of attacks in the IoT environment. The presented GSODL-ADC technique utilizes deep autoencoder (DAE) as a classifier model which properly recognizes the attacks in the IoT environment. Followed by this, the GSO approach is utilized for the optimum hyperparameter adjustments of the DAE model, which leads to enhanced attack detection efficacy. The experimental evaluation of the GSODL-ADC algorithm is tested against benchmark dataset. The obtained experimental values signify the betterment of the GSODL-ADC technique for attack recognition purposes. © 2023 IEEE.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have garnered significant attention from the research community during the last decade, due to their diverse capabilities and potential applications. One of the most critical functions that drones must execute efficiently is navigation in real-world environments. This paper presents a decentralized approach for enabling unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to navigate safely in unknown environments and avoid obstacles. Leveraging the Optimal Reciprocal Collision Avoidance (ORCA) algorithm, implemented in the Robot Operating System (ROS), our method facilitates conflict detection and resolution in 2D environments. Through simulations using ROS, Gazebo, and Iris drones, we validate the effectiveness of our approach in scenarios with initial trajectory conflicts. Our work addresses the pressing need for UAVs to autonomously plan and execute safe flights, laying the groundwork for enhanced UAV capabilities in various real-world applications. The simulation results demonstrate the efficiency and robustness of our approach. © 2024 IEEE.

The new generation of aircraft will experience increasing electrical power demands because of the more electric trends and advances in recent years. Adopting higher voltage levels is widely discussed for More Electric Aircraft (MEA) Power Distribution Systems (PDSs) to efficiently deliver the increased power ratings and reduce the system weight. However, higher voltage levels also indicate the risk of electrical insulation failures. Hence, it is essential to select optimised voltage levels for onboard PDSs considering the trade-offs. In addition, the relationship between the PDS weight/efficiency and voltage levels is complex rather than linear, resulting in infeasibility issues when optimising voltage levels. This study proposes a voltage optimisation method based on selecting among a set of components, i.e., converters and cables, for onboard DC PDSs. Moreover, to improve feasibility, the Integrated Converter Component (ICC) concept is proposed to combine each converter with its lightest input/output cables as an integrated block. Hence, the optimal bus voltages can be decided by selecting the lightest and most efficient ICCs while meeting the power delivery and voltage conversion requirements. © 2024 IEEE.

Instance segmentation plays a vital role in the morphological quantification of biomedical entities such as tissues and cells, enabling precise identification and delineation of different structures. Current methods often address the challenges of touching, overlapping or crossing instances through individual modeling, while neglecting the intrinsic interrelation between these conditions. In this work, we propose a Gradient Anomaly-aware Biomedical Instance Segmentation approach (GAInS), which leverages instance gradient information to perceive local gradient anomaly regions, thus modeling the spatial relationship between instances and refining local region segmentation. Specifically, GAInS is firstly built on a Gradient Anomaly Mapping Module (GAMM), which encodes the radial fields of instances through window sliding to obtain instance gradient anomaly maps. To efficiently refine boundaries and regions with gradient anomaly attention, we propose an Adaptive Local Refinement Module (ALRM) with a gradient anomaly-aware loss function. Extensive comparisons and ablation experiments in three biomedical scenarios demonstrate that our proposed GAInS outperforms other state-of-the-art (SOTA) instance segmentation methods. Analytical dashboards are popular in business intelligence to facilitate insight discovery with multiple charts. However, creating an effective dashboard is highly demanding, which requires users to have adequate data analysis background and be familiar with professional tools, such as Power BI. To create a dashboard, users have to configure charts by selecting data columns and exploring different chart combinations to optimize the communication of insights, which is trial-and-error. Recent research has started to use deep learning methods for dashboard generation to lower the burden of visualization creation. However, such efforts are greatly hindered by the lack of large-scale and high-quality datasets of dashboards. In this work, we propose using deep reinforcement learning to generate analytical dashboards that can use well-established visualization knowledge and the estimation capacity of reinforcement learning. Specifically, we use visualization knowledge to construct a training environment and rewards for agents to explore and imitate human exploration behavior with a well-designed agent network. The usefulness of the deep reinforcement learning model is demonstrated through ablation studies and user studies. In conclusion, our work opens up new opportunities to develop effective ML-based visualization recommenders without beforehand training datasets. © 2022 IEEE.

Feature selection plays a pivotal role in the data preprocessing and model-building pipeline, significantly en-hancing model performance, interpretability, and resource efficiency across diverse domains. In population-based optimization methods, the generation of diverse individuals holds utmost importance for adequately exploring the problem landscape, particularly in highly multi-modal multi-objective optimization problems. Our study reveals that, in line with findings from sev-eral prior research papers, commonly employed crossover and mutation operations lack the capability to generate high-quality diverse individuals and tend to become confined to limited areas around various local optima. This paper introduces an augmen-tation to the diversity of the population in the well-established multi-objective scheme of the genetic algorithm, NSGA-II. This enhancement is achieved through two key components: the genuine initialization method and the substitution of the worst individuals with new randomly generated individuals as a re-initialization approach in each generation. The proposed multi-objective feature selection method undergoes testing on twelve real-world classification problems, with the number of features ranging from 2,400 to nearly 50,000. The results demonstrate that replacing the last front of the population with an equivalent number of new random individuals generated using the genuine initialization method and featuring a limited number of features substantially improves the population's quality and, consequently, enhances the performance of the multi-objective algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.
