Solar Radiation Estimation Based on a New Combined Approach of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Genetic Algorithms (GA) in South Algeria

When designing solar systems and assessing the effectiveness of their many uses,estimating sun irradiance is a crucial first *** study examined three approaches(ANN,GA-ANN,and ANFIS)for estimating daily global solar radiation(GSR)in the south of Algeria:Adrar,Ouargla,and *** proposed hybrid GA-ANN model,based on genetic algorithm-based optimization,was developed to improve the ANN *** GA-ANN and ANFIS models performed better than the standalone ANN-based model,with GA-ANN being better suited for forecasting in all sites,and it performed the best with the best values in the testing phase of Coefficient of Determination(R=0.9005),Mean Absolute Percentage Error(MAPE=8.40%),and Relative Root Mean Square Error(rRMSE=12.56%).Nevertheless,the ANFIS model outperformed the GA-ANN model in forecasting daily GSR,with the best values of indicators when testing the model being R=0.9374,MAPE=7.78%,and rRMSE=10.54%.Generally,we may conclude that the initial ANN stand-alone model performance when forecasting solar radiation has been improved,and the results obtained after injecting the genetic algorithm into the ANN to optimize its weights were *** model can be used to forecast daily GSR in dry climates and other climates and may also be helpful in selecting solar energy system installations and sizes.

With the exponential growth of e-commerce platforms, recommendation systems are widely used in predicting user interests, improving user experience, and increasing the number of sales. However, recommendation performance degrades for users who have very little interaction or new users who have never opted for the service. Consequently, the recommender systems cannot suggest items and services to these users due to the cold start issue. Naturally, a compelling demand for an efficient recommender system is essentially needed to guide users toward items of their interests. This paper proposes a deep neural network (DNN) framework that addresses the cold start problem in recommendation systems. The proposed framework named 'DeCS' works primarily in stages that involve creating embeddings and vectors followed by training and prediction of three fundamental metrics-mean square error (MSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and root MSE (RMSE) by the framework. Several experiments evaluate the DeCS framework for different recommender metrics at various datasets. Predictions show that the proposed DeCS model achieves the MSE, RMSE, and MAE metrics in the range of 0.4338-1.2911, 0.6883-1.1362, and 0.4691-0.8745, respectively. Further, the result shows that the proposed approach improves these metrics by 15.81% compared to many state-of-the-art methods. © 2022 IEEE.

In high-risk industrial environments like nuclear power plants, precise defect identification and localization are essential for maintaining production stability and safety. However, the complexity of such a harsh environment leads to significant variations in the shape and size of the defects. To address this challenge, we propose the multivariate time series segmentation network(MSSN), which adopts a multiscale convolutional network with multi-stage and depth-separable convolutions for efficient feature extraction through variable-length templates. To tackle the classification difficulty caused by structural signal variance, MSSN employs logarithmic normalization to adjust instance distributions. Furthermore, it integrates classification with smoothing loss functions to accurately identify defect segments amid similar structural and defect signal subsequences. Our algorithm evaluated on both the Mackey-Glass dataset and industrial dataset achieves over 95% localization and demonstrates the capture capability on the synthetic dataset. In a nuclear plant's heat transfer tube dataset, it captures 90% of defect instances with75% middle localization F1 score.

The innovative city network integrates numerous computational and physical components to develop real-time systems. These systems can capture sensor data and distribute it to end stations. Most solutions have been presented based on the centralized computing paradigm, which effectively and systematically increases data flow;however, distributed wireless technologies and heterogeneous network services continue to raise significant research problems. These challenges lower the optimization criteria and reflect communication structure around the network edges. In this research, we proposed a sustainable development for smart networks using efficient big data management with collaborative decisions for network devices. It differs from most existing work in the mentioned aspect. It applies computational lightweight intelligence for forwarding collected data using mobile collectors and reduces the congestion flow between devices on the limited bandwidth of wireless links. Moreover, the energy load is efficiently managed with edge-driven methods, and the incorporation of trusted devices ensures the integrity of the smart network. It also tackles potential communication threats smartly. Based on the experiments conducted in Network Simulator (NS-3), the proposed model enhances the efficacy of smart networks for performance metrics with reliability and effective management of resources in Internet of Things (IoT) network. © 2025 IEEE.

A Variational Inference-Based LSTM-enhanced Deep Neural Model for Sequential Recommendations

Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks are particularly useful in recommender systems since user preferences change over time. Unlike traditional recommender models which assume static user-item interactions, LSTM models capture sequential dependencies and temporal dynamics, making them ideal for personalized, session-based, and sequential recommendation tasks. However, traditional LSTM-based recommender systems do not model uncertainty since they perform deterministic predictions. Moreover, those recommender models exhibit poor generalization on small datasets, and poor-handle cold-start and data sparsity problems. To overcome those limitations, this paper presents an LSTM-based recommender model that leverages an improved deep matrix factorization to accurately address the data sparsity problem. In addition, an enhanced variational inference coupled to the Evidence Lower Bound Optimization is applied on LSTM unit layers to perform uncertainty-aware predictions. Thereafter, latent vectors obtained from LSTM networks are effectively involved in the sequential recommendation process. Experiments have been conducted on several real-world datasets to evaluate our proposal and the results show the proposed model presents significant performances compared to state-of-the-art models. © 2013 IEEE.

An improved LOS Guidance and Sail-Rudder Cooperative Controller for the Path Tracking of Unmanned Sailboats

Unmanned sailboats are driven only by wind, making them good platforms for the synchronous observation of air-sea interfaces over a large range. Compared with traditional unmanned ships, the unmanned sailboat involves simultaneous sail and rudder control for path tracking in unpredictable marine environments. The system is characterized by strong coupling and nonlinearity, creating challenges for the design of controllers. This paper combines line-of-sight (LOS) guidance with the introduction of a sideslip angle observer and model predictive control. A high-precision path tracking strategy suitable for cooperative sail and rudder control for unmanned sailboats is proposed. First, considering the lateral error easily caused by the large sideslip angle of sailboats, a full-path fixed-time guidance strategy with double fixed-time sideslip angle observers (DFSO) is proposed. Second, different from the previous strategy of decoupling the sail and rudder to control the speed and heading, the proposed cooperative control framework uses Lyapunov-based model predictive control (LMPC). The sailing speed and heading angle are both accounted for in the objective function, and the stability is verified by Lyapunov theory. Finally, the feasibility and superiority of this proposed method are confirmed by numerical simulation experiments involving the path tracking of a four degree of freedom sailboat model integrated with wind and waves in an ocean environment. The network switches in the data plane of Software Defined Networking (SDN) are empowered by an elementary process, in which enormous number of packets which resemble big volumes of data are classified into specific flows by matching them against a set of dynamic rules. This basic process accelerates the processing of data, so that instead of processing singular packets repeatedly, corresponding actions are performed on corresponding flows of packets. In this paper, first, we address limitations on a typical packet classification algorithm like Tuple Space Search (TSS). Then, we present a set of different scenarios to parallelize it on different parallel processing platforms, including Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), clusters of Central Processing Units (CPUs), and hybrid clusters. Experimental results show that the hybrid cluster provides the best platform for parallelizing packet classification algorithms, which promises the average throughput rate of 4.2 Million packets per second (Mpps). That is, the hybrid cluster produced by the integration of Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA), Message Passing Interface (MPI), and OpenMP programming model could classify 0.24 million packets per second more than the GPU cluster scheme. Such a packet classifier satisfies the required processing speed in the programmable network systems that would be used to communicate big medical data.

This study presents an overview on intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)-enabled sensing and communication for the forthcoming sixth-generation(6G) wireless networks, in which IRSs are strategically deployed to proactively reconfigure wireless environments to improve both sensing and communication(S&C) performance. First, we exploit a single IRS to enable wireless sensing in the base station's(BS's) non-line-of-sight(NLoS) area. In particular, we present three IRS-enabled NLoS target sensing architectures with fully-passive, semi-passive, and active IRSs, respectively. We compare their pros and cons by analyzing the fundamental sensing performance limits for target detection and parameter estimation. Next, we consider a single IRS to facilitate integrated sensing and communication(ISAC), in which the transmit signals at the BS are used for achieving both S&C functionalities, aided by the IRS through reflective beamforming. We present joint transmit signal and receiver processing designs for realizing efficient ISAC, and jointly optimize the transmit beamforming at the BS and reflective beamforming at the IRS to balance the fundamental performance tradeoff between S&C. Furthermore, we discuss multi-IRS networked ISAC, by particularly focusing on multi-IRS-enabled multi-link ISAC, multi-region ISAC, and ISAC signal routing, respectively. Finally, we highlight various promising research topics in this area to motivate future work.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending in the Financial Technology (FinTech) sector is increasingly gaining attention from people where the online platform enables lenders to offer loans to borrowers. The platform as a much needed mechanism targets to reduce the risk of default and increase profitability for lenders and the platform. Each loan record maintains a variety of attributes, including details about the loan, the borrower, their credit history, their finances, and public data. If all the features are considered, the performance of the lending platform may decline. Finding the necessary characteristics more helpful in forecasting loan default is a concern. This paper investigates essential features of the P2P lending mechanism with adequate performance in lending money to individuals or businesses. We employ two algorithms to find the pertinent features: Boruta and Max-Relevance and Min-Redundancy (mRMR). Further, we use two classifiers-decision tree and XGBoost that exercise the selected elements to predict the loan defaults. © 2023 IEEE.
