Robust performance of control schemes for open quantum systems is investigated under classical uncertainties in the generators of the dynamics and nonclassical uncertainties due to decoherence and initial state preparation errors. A formalism is developed to measure performance based on the transmission of a dynamic perturbation or initial state preparation error to the quantum state error. This makes it possible to apply tools from classical robust control such as structured singular value analysis. A difficulty arising from the singularity of the closed-loop Bloch equations for the quantum state is overcome by introducing the #-inversion lemma, a specialized version of the matrix inversion lemma. Under some conditions, this guarantees continuity of the structured singular value at s = 0. Additional difficulties occur when symmetry gives rise to multiple open-loop poles, which under symmetry-breaking unfold into single eigenvalues. The concepts are applied to systems subject to pure decoherence and a general dissipative system example of two qubits in a leaky cavity under laser driving fields and spontaneous emission. A nonclassical performance index, steady-state entanglement quantified by the concurrence, a nonlinear function of the system state, is introduced. Simulations confirm a conflict between entanglement, its log-sensitivity and stability margin under decoherence. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Performance Analysis of 128-bit Modular Inverse Based Extended Euclidean Using Altera FPGA Kit

Modular inverse is a division operation performed over a modulus and is considered as a fundamental operation for many public-key cryptosystems. Extended Euclidean Algorithm (EEA) is considered one of the most efficient algorithms to compute the modular multiplicative inverse of two coprime numbers. In this paper, we are reporting on the FPGA implementation of 128-bit modular inverse unit using Extended Euclidean Algorithm (EEA) algorithm with maximum possible parallelism of the internal operations. To verify the deposed implementation, we have synthesized our VHDL coding using ALTERA Cyclone IV FPGA with target device EP4CGX22CF19C7 using Quartus II simulation package. The experimental results showed that the proposed implementation recorded a critical path delay of 16.84 ns with maximum operational frequency of 72.7 MHz. Also, the area of the proposed design was estimated as the number of logic elements (LEs) utilized by the proposed unit which is reported as 7157 LEs. Finally, the power dissipation of the proposed using was estimated as the total FPGA thermal power dissipation and reported as 231.41 mW. Hence, the proposed modular inverse module can be efficiently embedded with many FPGA based cryptographic applications.

Cost effective FPGA Implementation of Right-to-Left Modular Exponentiation with NAF-Representation

Modular exponentiation is an exponentiation performed over a modulus. It is useful in computer science, especially in the field of public-key cryptography. Most technological applications of modular arithmetic involve exponentials with very large numbers. In this paper, we propose a high radix reconfigurable implementation for the Right-to-Left Modular Exponentiation with NAF-Representation by exploiting the maximum possible parallelism of the internal operations. The proposed design targeted the ALTERA Cyclone IV FPGA (EP4CGX22CF19C7) along with Quartus II simulation package. The proposed design was evaluated in terms of the maximum operational frequency, the total path delay, the total design area and the total thermal power dissipation. The synthesized results revealed that the proposed high radix architecture implementation has recorded: critical path delay of 25.5 ns, maximum operational frequency of 44.59 MHz, hardware design area (number of logic elements) of 2556 LEs, and total thermal power dissipation estimated as 221.82 mW. Consequently, the proposed modular exponentiation architecture can be efficiently employed by many public key cryptographic mechanisms.

The global interest in quantum networks stems from the security guaranteed by the laws of physics. Deploying quantum networks means facing the challenges of scaling up the physical hardware and, more importantly, of scaling up all other network layers and optimally utilising network resources. Here we consider two related protocols, their experimental demonstrations on an 8-user quantum network test-bed, and discuss their usefulness with the aid of example use cases. First, an authentication transfer protocol to manage a fundamental limitation of quantum communication – the need for a pre-shared key between every pair of users linked together on the quantum network. This paper presents an agile reactive navigation strategy for driving a non-holonomic ground vehicle around a preset course of gates in a cluttered environment using a low-cost processor array sensor. This enables machine vision tasks to be performed directly upon the sensor’s image plane, rather than using a separate general-purpose computer. We demonstrate a small ground vehicle running through or avoiding multiple gates at high speed using minimal computational resources. To achieve this, target tracking algorithms are developed for the Pixel Processing Array and captured images are then processed directly on the vision sensor acquiring target information for controlling the ground vehicle. The algorithm can run at up to 2000 fps outdoors and 200fps at indoor illumination levels. Conducting image processing at the sensor level avoids the bottleneck of image transfer encountered in conventional sensors. The real-time performance of on-board image processing and robustness is validated through experiments. Experimental results demonstrate that the algorithm’s ability to enable a ground vehicle to navigate at an average speed of 2.20 m/s for passing through multiple gates and 3.88 m/s for a ‘slalom’ task in an environment featuring significant visual clutter. The dramatic increase in the use of knowledge discovery applications requires end users to write complex database search requests to retrieve information. Such users are not only expected to grasp the structural complexity of complex databases but also the semantic relationships between data stored in databases. In order to overcome such difficulties, researchers have been focusing on knowledge representation and interactive query generation through ontologies, with particular emphasis on improving the interface between data and search requests in order to bring the result sets closer to users research requirements. This paper discusses ontology-based information retrieval approaches and techniques by taking into consideration the aspects of ontology modelling, processing and the translation of ontological knowledge into database search requests. It also extensively compares the existing ontology-to-database transformation and mapping approaches in terms of loss of data and semantics, structural mapping and domain knowledge applicability. The research outcomes, recommendations and future challenges presented in this paper can bridge the gap between ontology and relational models to generate precise search requests using ontologies. Moreover, the comparison presented between various ontology-based information retrieval, database-to-ontology transformations and ontology-to-database mappings approaches provides a reference for enhancing the searching capabilities of massively loaded information management systems. © 2017
