In this study, we combine cloud computing with big data processing techniques to build a real-time energy monitoring system for smart campus. The monitor plat-form collects the electricity usage in campus buildings through smart meters and environmental sensors, and processes the huge amount of data by big data processing techniques. A Hadoop ecosystem is built on top of big data processing architecture to improve the capacity of big data storage and processing ability. Moreover, we compare the performance of Hive and HBase in searching energy data, and the performance of relational database and big data distributed database for data search. We also identify abnormal electrical condition through the MapReduce framework, and compared the difference of performances between Spark and Hadoop in real-time processing. The proposed system has been implemented in Tunghai University campus. It enables administrators to observe the real-time electricity usage and analyze historical data anytime and from anyplace.

4-(Furan-2-yl)phenyl-containing polydithienylpyrroles as promising electrodes for high contrast and coloration efficiency electrochromic devices

A 4-(furan-2-yl)phenyl-containing conjugated dithienylpyrrole (FPT) was prepared using a Paal-Knorr reaction and its homologous homopolymer (PFPT) and copolymers (P(FPT-co-DTC) and P(FPT-co-DTP)) were electrosynthesized. Spectroelectrochemical investigations displayed that PFPT film was saffron yellow (0 V) in a reduced state, yellowish-gray (1.0 V), light purple (1.2 V), and bluish-purple (1.4 V) in an oxidized state. P(FPT-co-DTC) film was green, grayish-green, grayish-blue, and bluish-purple from reduced to oxidized states. Electrochromic switching studies revealed the transmittance change (Delta T) of PFPT, P(FPT-co-DTC), and P(FPT-co-DTP) films were 22.7%, 44.8%, and 50.7% at 1320 nm, 906 nm, and 1212 nm, respectively, and the coloration efficiency (eta) of PFPT, P(FPT-co-DTC), and P(FPT-co-DTP) films were estimated to be 181.8 cm(2) C-1, 229.0 cm(2) C-1, and 232.4 cm(2) C-1 at 1320 nm, 906 nm, and 1212 nm, respectively. A P(FPT-co-DTP)/PProDOT-Et-2 ECD revealed a high Delta T (38.6% at 612 nm) and rapid switching time, whereas a PFPT/PProDOT-Et-2 ECD attained a high Delta T (33.3% at 590 nm), a high eta (533.5 cm(2) C-1 at 590 nm) and long-term reversible redox behaviors.

A 3,5-di(9H-carbazol-9-yl)benzonitrile (CzBN)-containing homopolymer (P(CzBN)) and five CzBN-containing 2,20-bithiophene (BTP) copolymers, namely (P(CzBN-co-BTP)), P(CzBN-co-BTP2), P(CzBN-co-BTP3), P(CzBNco-BTP4), and P(CzBN-2-co-BTP), with various feeding molar ratios of CzBN and BTP were electrodeposited on transparent conductive indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes, and their electrochromic performances were characterized. The P(CzBN-co-BTP4) film exhibited distinct electrochromic behaviors and displayed three different colors (brown, grayish-blue, and olive green) at different potentials. Electrochromic kinetic analyses of the anodic polymers revealed that P(CzBN-co-BTP) had a high transmittance change (Delta T%) (59.6% at 960 nm) and high coloration efficiency (eta) (174.3 cm(2)/C at 960 nm) in three-electrode cells. Six dual-layer organic electrochromic devices (ECDs) were constructed using P(CzBN), P(CzBN-co-BTP), P(CzBN-co-BTP2), P(CzBN- coBTP3), P(CzBN-co-BTP4), or P(CzBN2-co-BTP) as the anodically coloring layers and PEDOT as the cathodically coloring layer. The P(CzBN-co-BTP2)/PEDOT ECD had a high.T (43.7% at 627 nm) and a rapid response time (<= 2.0 s), while the P(CzBN)/PEDOT ECD had a high. (616.7 cm(2)/C at 625 nm) and adequate optical memories. These electrochromic results suggest that cyano-containing polycarbazoles are promising high-contrast and rapid-response electrodes for ECD applications.

In this study, a plurality of camera sensors distributed in the agricultural land was integrated into the Raspberry Pi, and photos were taken to observe whether the foliage of the crop was harmful or not. The image data were transmitted to the Alexnet, VGG-16 and VGG-19 convolutional nerves through deep learning methods. The network architecture extracts image features to detect the presence of pests and identifies the types of pests. Compared by the classification accuracy, training model and prediction time with a classifier based on a neural network, and a Support Vector Machine, the identified pest results will be immediately displayed on the farming management app as a timely epidemic prevention management of the farming.

A review of experimental mobile learning research in 2010-2016 based on the activity theory framework

In this study, we systematically reviewed the experimental mobile learning studies published in 2010-2016. Moreover, the activity theory framework was adopted to investigate the insights and trends of mobile learning. That is, the dimensions of context, tools, control, communication, subjects and objectives were employed to analyze the studies. It was found that most experimental mobile learning studies engaged students in real-world contexts, and the activities were conducted based on the existing school curriculums. This means that researchers and school teachers noted the value of situating students in meaningful learning by helping them link what they had learned from the textbooks to real-world scenarios or daily life environments. In the meantime, the studies frequently involved the students in actively using mobile systems with communication facilities to acquire knowledge via interacting with peers, events, and specified real-world learning targets in the environment. On one hand, many researchers proposed to raise students' motivation;on the other hand, they expected to observe more of what the learners, particularly novices and low-achievement students, had done when observing their past interactions. Even so, it was found that mobile devices were considered a main way of allowing students to acquire self-learning materials rather than only mediation learning across contexts. As the current studies can be considered to contain blended rather than purely self-paced learning, there is still a large space for mobile learning progress and development.

The state of the art of mobile robot path planning is composed with global planner and local planner. For example, the global planner majorly establishes a suitable path from a knowing map based on the shortest path. And the local planner which computes the velocity command that includes obstacle clearance and progress toward the goal. However, due to the 2D laser ranger on a mobile service robot just detects the part of the meal table or misses it, this will cause robot often hits the meal table. In this work we apply adaptive control method to feed the goals for Dynamic Window Approach's (DWA) computing. Managing water quality in a river basin with uncertainty

The effects of both climate change and the geographic location of Taiwan have influenced the perceived variability of river flow and increased uncertainty and complexity in the management of river basins. In this study, a genetic algorithm (GA) optimizer was integrated into a stochastic river basin model to develop a stochastic optimization river basin management model (SORBMM). Firstly, the flow probability density function was determined through statistical analysis of the hydrological data. A Monte Carlo simulation was then conducted to evaluate the effect of flow variability, and a GA was implemented to obtain an optimal river pollution reduction strategy. A true case involving multi-objective management of a river basin under conditions of high spatiotemporal flow variation was tested to demonstrate the feasibility of the SORBMM. The results revealed that a reduction in pollution removal would lead to higher risks for river basin management due to the dilution effect in the river downstream and the objective of lowering pollution removal costs.

Matchstick-like Ag2S-ZnS nanorods (NRs) with a tunable aspect ratio (AR) were synthesized using one-pot thermal decomposition. The ultraviolet photoelectron spectra and time-resolved photoluminescence spectra of the Ag2S-ZnS NRs were collected to study their electronic band structures and charge carrier dynamics. The energy difference (Delta E) at the interface between the ZnS stem and Ag2S tip was altered as the AR of Ag2S-ZnS NRs increased from 11.9 to 18.4, resulting in an enlarged driving force for the delocalized electrons along the conduction band of ZnS being injected into that of Ag2S. The interfacial electron transfer rate constant (k(et)) from ZnS to Ag2S could be enhanced by similar to 2 orders of magnitude from 5.27 x 10(6) to 3.24 x 10(8) s(-1), leading to a significant improvement in the efficiency of solar hydrogen generation. This investigation provides new physical insights into the manipulation of charge carrier dynamics by means of AR adjustment in semiconductor nanoheterostructures for photoelectric conversions.

Recent college students have been observed to be motivated and engaged in acquiring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) knowledge and skills with robots and IoT objects. A sample of 13 master's students participated in the program. Data collected include the pre- and post- STEM and computational thinking (CT) written tests, and the pre- and post-surveys of learning perceptions toward the robots and IoT objects learning activities. The results show that the learning activities were an effective approach for the master's students' STEM learning outcome and CT as shown in the post- test. The differences between the master's students' STEM learning outcome, CT, and perceptions were also confirmed, particularly between the groups of computer programming-experienced learners and computer programming-novice learners. The results revealed that the learning activities with robots and IoT objects could improve the overall master's students' CT, STEM knowledge, and learning perceptions. Both programming-experienced and programming-novice learners' STEM learning outcome were improved.

The Influence of Annealing and Film Thickness on the Specific Properties of Co40Fe40Y20 Films

Cobalt Iron Yttrium (CoFeY) magnetic film was made using the sputtering technique in order to investigate the connection between the thickness and annealing procedures. The sample was amorphous as a result of an insufficient thermal driving force according to X-ray diffraction (XRD) examination. The maximum low-frequency alternate-current magnetic susceptibility (?(ac)) values were raised in correlation with the increased thickness and annealing temperatures because the thickness effect and Y addition improved the spin exchange coupling. The best value for a 50 nm film at annealing 300 ? for ?(ac) was 0.20. Because electron carriers are less constrained in their conduction at thick film thickness and higher annealing temperatures, the electric resistivity and sheet resistance are lower. At a thickness of 40 nm, the film's maximum surface energy during annealing at 300 ? was 28.7 mJ/mm(2). This study demonstrated the passage of photon signals through the film due to the thickness effect, which reduced transmittance. The best condition was found to be 50 nm with annealing at 300? in this investigation due to high ?(ac), strong adhesion, and low resistivity, which can be used in magnetic fields.
