Hybrid prediction error and histogram shifting method for reversible data hiding in video system

With the rapid advancement of communication technology, ensuring the security of information transmission has become increasingly crucial. In today's digital landscape, video has emerged as one of the most popular media formats. Video Reversible Data Hiding (RDH) involves embedding information or secret data within a video file while preserving the perceived quality of the resulting stego video. This technique enables the receiver to perfectly restore the original video and extract the embedded secret data. Achieving high-quality stego files while maintaining sufficient capacity for secret data remains a significant challenge. This research proposes a novel reversible video data hiding method that utilizes an innovative prediction error algorithm for intra-frame pixel value prediction error calculation. The algorithm generates sharp histograms based on these prediction errors, with sharper histograms corresponding to a higher Peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of the stego video. Additionally, the method incorporates an adaptive zero-point system to identify which zero point that require minimal histogram shifts, thus achieving adaptive effects within each frame by applying different shifts based on frame characteristics. The proposed prediction error algorithm enhances the histogram shifting effects and addresses the limitation of not embedding data in the first frame while maintaining superior PSNR. Extensive experimental analysis demonstrates that proposed method surpasses various existing techniques in terms of steganographic video quality.

Featured Application The shockwave soil-loosening device developed in this paper can effectively improve the aeration of the soil in crops' root zones. It can also significantly reduce the amount of carbon released during the tillage and soil-loosening process, which helps reduce agricultural carbon. We can expand this equipment into a shockwave hole fertilization device to conduct efficient hole-digging and fertilization operations on woody *** When the soil at the plant roots is poorly ventilated due to few pores, the root system will grow short and shallow, leading to poor growth. In this paper, we developed a shockwave soil-loosening device. It can first drill a hollow drill bit containing multi-directional holes into the soil near the roots of the crops and then generate high-pressure gas to impact the soil outside the drill bit to increase the soil pores. Therefore, this can quickly improve soil aeration. We conducted numerical simulations of shockwave loosening to explore how 3.4 atm shockwaves are emitted from the drill bit's porous nozzles and analyze the behavior and efficiency of shockwave loosening. We also performed visual observation experiments of shockwave multi-directional impact in a transparent acrylic water tank. Furthermore, we used eight pressure sensors to automatically measure the range of shockwave impact and found that when the storage tank volume was 5000 cm3, we could achieve a soil loosening range of 30 cm. Finally, this shockwave-loosening mechanism ensures that the soil surface will not be damaged during the loosening process, thus avoiding large-scale tillage disturbance of the soil. This will reduce carbon emissions stored in soil and released into the atmosphere.

Learning English on Social Media: A Multi-Theoretical Approach to Exploring Continuance Behavior

Given the limited applicability of existing theories and models, this study aims to develop a merged multi-theory model to expand the boundaries of acceptance theories. It is based on the extended post-acceptance model of IS continuance, integrates the uses and gratifications theory, and incorporates self-determination theory to analyze the factors that influence users' continuous engagement with Instagram for English learning. Data collected from 534 Instagram users were analyzed in relation to the research model using the partial least squares (PLS) approach. The key results indicate that facilitating conditions and the intention to continue usage have a significant influence on users' actual continued usage behavior. Satisfaction mediated the impacts of extrinsic motivation, intrinsic motivation, information gratification, and post-usage usefulness on usage continuance intention. In conclusion, this study proposes a multi-theoretical framework and provides both academics and practitioners with valuable insights which are highly relevant for understanding social media learning behaviors.

The linkage of frontline employees' neuroticism, rumination and negative affect: a moderated moderated mediation model

PurposeDrawing on response style theory and conservation of resources theory, this study aims to examine how neuroticism indirectly influences negative affect via rumination, and whether this mediating effect is moderated directly by individual resources (i.e. emotion regulation) and indirectly by social resources (i.e. perceived organizational support [POS]).Design/methodology/approachA total of 181 valid responses were collected using two-wave self-reported questionnaires in Taiwan, and the research hypotheses were tested using partial least squares *** results showed that when both emotion regulation and POS are low, neuroticism has a positive indirect effect on negative affect via rumination. However, this effect weakens or becomes insignificant under other ***/valueThe findings of this study offer a more in-depth examination of the relationships among the traits, rumination, negative affect and both internal and external resources of frontline employees in the service industries. Neuroticism, as a personality trait, is not easily changed. Therefore, helping frontline employees at service sites improve their rumination, training them to regulate their emotions and enhancing the POS can be useful strategies for managers and human resource departments to pursue.

The Effect of Negative Corporate Social Responsibility Events on CEO Turnovers and CEO Compensations

This study explores how the presence and severity of negative corporate social responsibility (i.e., NCSR) events affect CEO turnovers and CEO compensations by collecting data from the Taiwan Economic Journal (TEJ) database from 2005 to 2022. The results show that companies likely terminate senior executives in subsequent years on NCSR events, resulting in CEO turnovers. Moreover, we find that the severity of NCSR is positively related to CEO turnovers. Similarly, the presence and severity of NCSR events are negatively related to CEO compensations. The positive relation between NCSR events and CEO turnovers is stronger for firms with higher CSR performance, higher industry growth opportunities, and lower board member turnover. Consequently, this research offers new insights into NCSR events’ impact on CEO turnovers and compensations. © 2025 Journal Of Accounting Review. All rights reserved.

Data Mining Approach for River Flood Hazard Time-Series: Using a Combination of Triple Exponential Smoothing and Neural Networks, in Demak

Conventional flood hazard maps depict a static perspective on flood risk and are helpful in flood forecasting. Then, time-series flood forecasting research was developed and widely conducted. Still, it has limitations because the univariate method used does not consider the influence of other variables, unlike regression. Also, the determination of flood hazard weights, which is usually conducted through empirical studies using AHP, has a good level of accuracy but has the drawback of expert subjectivity. A new approach is proposed for flood hazard forecasting, combining the Triple ES method with NN and determining weights in a data-driven manner using NN. A combination of time series and regression methods (significantly non-linear), namely Triple ES with NN, results in good accuracy with an MSE value of 3.03, MAE 1.20, RMSE 1.74, R2 0.54, and a MAPE of 32.93%. The evaluation results for flood hazard weight determination with an MSE of 0.0111 and a MAPE of 7.81% show promising results, and the weights can be used in Hazard Flood GIS. Visualization in the form of a GIS Hazard Map can be done after all related raster data have been combined. The computational outcomes, particularly the MSE and MAPE values, demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, providing a clear understanding of the model's performance. © 2025 Slovene Society Informatika. This study addresses the moral dilemmas associated with Level 4 autonomous or self-driving buses capable of making decisions in moral dilemmas where human intervention is still possible. With the help of a cusp catastrophe model, we examine the choices made by potential users, deciding appropriate responses to moral dilemmas in which their interests are implicated. The findings of these surveys indicate that most respondents exhibited a consequentialist decision-making logic. They placed emphasis on adherence to traffic regulations, safeguarding individuals who abide by the law, and imposing penalties on those who contradict it within the context of the scenarios under consideration..

For sensitive images, e.g., military and medical images, traditional digital image watermarking methods are insufficient to realize effective protection. The original image is distorted due to traditional digital image watermarking methods embedding a watermark into it. We suggest a method for generating a zero-watermark image that is robust and uses discrete wavelet transform and singular value decomposition techniques. The Arnold transform is used in the zero-watermark generation and verification phases to enhance the security of the proposed method. The feature image of the original image is extracted after normalization and then frequency transformed. Various attacks were evaluated to determine the robustness of the proposed method, and the experimental results indicate that it exhibits good robustness against most attacks. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

In this study, we propose a digital watermarking scheme with quick response (QR) codes for authenticating image fidelity. We hide an image hash value in a QR code as a watermark and then embed the watermark using our robust digital watermarking scheme. The proposed scheme takes advantage of QR codes for error correction. Using a QR code as a watermark can decrease the error rate after watermark extraction from an attacked image. To protect the content of images, we perform the perceptual hash algorithm for evaluation. The values of the perceptual hash algorithm can be stored in QR codes. Therefore, perceptual hash values are secured, even when the watermarked image has been damaged. Using perceptual hash values, we can determine the difference between the attacked and original images. The proposed scheme provides an effective method for protecting public and copyrighted digital images. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Reversible data hiding in encrypted images (RDHEI) has gained significant importance in the age of cloud computing and digital privacy, where securely embedding data into encrypted media without altering the original content is essential. However, conventional RDH techniques often face challenges in encrypted domains, particularly in achieving high embedding capacity, security, and complete reversibility. Moreover, pixel value ordering (PVO)-based embedding methods do not perform well in RDHEI techniques, as the encryption process affects pixel value correlations within a block. To address these challenges, we propose an innovative RDHEI method that integrates a three-stage encryption process with a median-preserving pixel value ordering (PVO) technique to overcome the limitations of PVO when applied in RDHEI. In the proposed method, the encryption phase consists of block permutation, pixel scrambling, and difference-preserving encryption (DPE), ensuring robust image security while preserving essential pixel correlations. For data embedding, a median-preserving PVO strategy is employed, adapting to various block sizes to maximize embedding efficiency. Experimental results demonstrate significant improvements in embedding capacity while maintaining strong security across multiple image databases, including USC-SIPI, BOSSBase v1.01, and BOWS-2. Comprehensive security evaluations, including complexity analysis, histogram analysis, StegExpose, the number of pixels change rate (NPCR), unified average changing intensity (UACI), and key space analysis.
