This study examines value proposition enhancement and customer engagement techniques in the context of the integration of mobile applications in small scale start up coffee chains. Startups do not have the same resources and infrastructure for extensive technological integration, like well-established chains, thus operating in unique segment of the industry. The study investigates the transformative influence of mobile applications ordering platforms on customer interactions, and operational efficiency. Specifically, the value proposition, as most mobile applications offer similar promises all centered around convenience, encapsulated in the phrase "Use the App, Skip the Queue". Process Chain Analysis identified the difference of direct interaction for offline orders and the surrogate interactions of application orders, is the root of operational issues, causing frustration in the ordering process. This finding acts as the foundation for the multi-criteria decision tree to assist in selecting the appropriate solution, through calculated weighted score. The solutions selected through this method were kitchen display system, and QR tracking system both scoring 4.64 and 4.84 respectively. UML diagrams were used to provide visual representation for the concepts, to aid in comprehension of how the concept should be implemented and used in the store. The outcomes highlight how the solutions improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction through transparency. The study is simply a concept, which has not been tested and all conclusions have been based on heuristic from previous implementation of similar solutions in restaurants and other food and beverage chains. © 2024 ACM.

Industry instructors' perspective on internship implementation strategy

Purpose The perspectives of industry instructors from a case enterprise were adopted to analyze various contexts of internship implementation and to examine feasible strategies for incorporating internships in the human resource development process. Design/methodology/approach A Taiwanese enterprise stationed in China was selected for case study. This study focused on the 2019 summer internship program. Interviews were conducted with 23 industry instructors. Findings (1) Units should effectively employ interns by guiding them to learn by doing tasks. (2) Provide training and assign personal industry instructors to guide interns in learning by doing, thereby establishing workplace relationships in advance. (3) High-level leaders and senior managers must pay close attention to internship results and inspire industry instructors and interns to perform internship tasks. (4) Managers of internship units must participate in interviews to select potential employees that satisfy unit requirements. (5) Opportunities for university teachers to interact with enterprises and recommend interested students who learn knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics (KSAOs) that fulfill enterprise requirements should be increased. Practical implications Enterprises must systematically plan internship tasks, recruitment and selection, as well as practices and reports if they wish to employ interns as potential human resource. Originality/value This study used the practical perspectives of industry instructors to establish the contexts and strategies of intern training for human resource development. The results of this study are expected to provide a reference for enterprises in planning internship workplaces and increase their willingness to employ interns.

Consumer-centric solutions are one technique to better understanding what the market wants. Taking into account all situations, the ecosystem must support consumer demand, offering the best environment for every company element. The current study develops the Consumer Centric Ecosystem (CCE) through the case study of a "XYZ"as a SME in the Batik business. A combination of sentiment analysis and design thinking approaches is used to develop the CCE. The data was collected between the middle of 2022 and the beginning of 2023. For sentiment research, 8662 Tweets were gathered from social media. Natural language processing (NLP) with Valance Aware Dictionary for Sentiment Reasoning is used in the sentiment analysis. Based on Ekman multiclass, the text mining produced six categories of emotions: Anger, disgust, fear, joy, sadness, and surprise. Design Thinking used data from 11 informants to create prototypes of the value proposition design (VPD) and customer journey (CJ). Steps such as emphasize, define, ideate, prototype, and test were meticulously completed. Anger, disgust, fear, delight, sadness, and surprise were elicited in proportions of 1.44 percent, 0.99 percent, 7.71 percent, 54.83 percent, 4.44 percent, and 30.58 percent. The findings also demonstrated better VPD and CJ. The results also reveal a new CCE from the examination of both combinations. The paper includes additional theoretical and practical discussion. © 2023 ACM.

Educational institutions worldwide have increasingly incorporated machine learning into laboratory subjects for university students. However, in the Philippines, there was a significant gap in understanding the intentions of engineering students towards adopting machine learning. This study investigated the factors influencing engineering students' behavioral intentions toward machine learning adoption. Employing the extended Technological Acceptance Model (TAM), the research explored the influence of various factors, with particular emphasis on m-learning self-efficacy, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and attitude toward machine learning on students' intentions. Through the purposive sampling method, 438 engineering students participated in a questionnaire focused on various aspects related to machine learning adoption. Results found that machine learning self-efficacy, followed by perceived ease of use, were the two significant factors. Surprisingly, attitude did not significantly affect engineering students' intention to use m-learning.

The present study examines the effects of visual complexity, in which cognitive and emotional characteristics of humans can be influenced by a variety of factors of differing degrees of complexity. Contextual relevance, which examines the correlation between the dissemination of information included in an advertising, is another aspect investigated in this study. The research functions as a tool to improve the organization's website's competitive advantage concerning trust and web attractiveness in relation to online purchasing intention. Seven hypotheses were tested. Multiple linear regression and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) were utilized to conduct the analysis. A 2 x 2 factorial design was implemented for the 160 participants. Manipulation tests were administered to participants to ascertain their comprehension of the manipulated stimuli that had been created. Specifically, high and low treatments were created for visual complexity. The relevance and irrelevance were created for contextual relevance. The total of seven hypotheses were validated in the result. Increasing the amount of visual complexity and contextual relevance on a website led to greater trust and online purchase intention. Trust and web attractiveness were identified in relation to contextual relevance. Trust is dominated from web attractiveness in affecting the online purchase intention by 0.486 coefficient score.

Maintaining a high quality of life through physical activities (PA) to prevent health decline is crucial. However, the relationship between individuals' health status, PA preferences, and motion factors is complex. PA discussions consistently show a positive correlation with healthy aging experiences, but no explicit relation to specific types of musculoskeletal exercises. Taking advantage of the increasingly widespread existence of smartphones, especially in Indonesia, this research utilizes embedded sensors for Human Activity Recognition (HAR). Based on 25 participants' data, performing nine types of selected motion, this study has successfully identified important sensor attributes that play important roles in the right and left hands for muscle strength motions as the basis for developing machine learning models with the LSTM algorithm. © 2024, CC BY-SA.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected individuals across various sectors, including university students. As a result, online learning emerged as the primary mode of education worldwide, including in the Philippines. However, the abrupt shift to online platforms presented significant challenges for undergraduate students. Therefore, this research aims to investigate the barriers that contribute to undergraduate students' reluctance to engage with online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Four main barriers were identified: technological, financial, insufficient institutional support, and individual barriers. Additionally, correlations between pairs of variables were examined, including financial and technological barriers, technological and individual barriers, financial and individual barriers, and insufficient institutional support and individual barriers. Utilizing the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and employing the Partial Least Squares (PLS) technique. The findings indicate that insufficient institutional support and individual barriers are statistically significant factors affecting online learning, whereas technological and financial barriers have an insignificant impact. Furthermore, financial barriers demonstrate a significant influence on technological barriers, and both financial and insufficient institutional support barriers significantly impact individual barriers. However, technological barriers exhibit an insignificant effect on individual barriers.

High-fidelity reversible data hiding based on PVO and median preserving

This paper aims to provide a comprehensive methodology for transmitting data securely between smart city applications. Reversible data hiding technique is widely used to protect secret information. Pixel value ordering (PVO) is an effective method of reversible data hiding (RDH) that sorts the pixels of a block based on their values. The pixel-based PVO (PPVO) method changes the predictive manner in PVO and achieves a high embedding capacity. However, in PPVO, the errors between the predicted pixel and the current pixel close to zero are not utilized. We propose a novel high-capacity reversible data hiding method based on PVO and median preservation to promote hiding capacity. The median preserving strategy in each block is used to compute the predicted error and to determine the smoothness of the area. If the block is a smooth area, more predicted errors are generated and fall within the range of [- 1, 1]. A modified multiple histogram scheme is applied to hide messages using predicted error shifting. Experimental results show that the proposed method has superior hiding capacity performances than that of the previous PVO-based methods.

Information hiding techniques are used to hide confidential data in digital carriers. It is difficult for malicious users to detect the existence of confidential data within the digital carriers. Audios, images, or videos can call be digital carriers. Information hiding includes steganography and watermarking. Watermarking is used for copyright protection. Steganography is used to protect confidential data transmission from malicious attackers. Imperceptibility and capacity are always the major concerns in steganography. In this paper, we propose an efficient steganography method for images using modulus operation and magic cube. The partial secret message bits are converted into decimals and then mapped to a predefined cube. The coordinates of the mapped position were embedded into the cover image using modulus operation. We obtain the stego-image quality better than 42 dB, while the payload is 3 bpp. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method has a higher capacity than previous works. Meanwhile, our method also maintain high imperceptibility. Furthermore, modulus operation can reduce the computational overhead of the proposed method.

Data hiding is an important technology for privacy protection. The proposed information hiding method is based on neighborhood mean interpolation (NMI) and 1' s complement. Different from other previous schemes, the proposed method can embed at least one bit of secret data in each pixel. Also, in some cases, secret data is converted to its one's complement. This makes the hiding ability better than other schemes. Experimental results comparing the proposed interpolation method with other methods show that the proposed method achieves more than 20% improvement in hiding ability and 8% improvement in PSNR. © 2022 IEEE.
