Quality control is a crucial issue in the injection molding process with target of obtaining a high yield rate and reducing production cost. However, conventional injection molding acts like a black-box in which the flowing behavior of polymer melt within cavities is unseen, and the tuning of process parameters is heavily relied on operators' experience, design of experimental methods, or even trial- and-error. Such approaches are not only time-consuming but also lack of assuring consistent injection molding qualities and quality control is then required. Nowadays with the advance of sensing technology, many sensors are available to detect the flowing behavior of polymer melt within mold cavities. Particularly the pressure, velocity, and temperature that affect the flowing ability of polymer melt can be detected in time. In other words, injection molding now has been transformed into a grey-box and a scientific viewpoint to tune process parameters can be realized. In this research, a quality index extracted from pressure profile is aimed for online quality monitoring. In addition, the clamping force increment quality index extracted from the tie-bar elongation which is detected by strain gauges attached on tie bars, free of invading injection mold structure, is paid much attention. To verify the feasibility of the designed quality index using to prediction the injection molded quality, varying barrel temperature, back pressure and rotational speed of plasticizing screw those can affect the plasticizing quality of raw materials are conducted in this investigation. Experimental results reveals that the clamping force increment as well as pressure peak index extracted from injection system pressure, nozzle pressure, end-of-filling cavity pressure profiles during injection molding are highly correlated with injection-molded qualities and thereby are feasible to be a good quality indicator. © 2019 Society of Plastics Engineers. Filling-to-packing switchover (also called as V/P switchover) is critical for assuring injection molding quality. An improper filling-to-packing switchover setting may result in various defects of injection-molded parts, such as excessive residual stress, flash, short shot, and warpage, etc. To enhance consistent molding quality, recent V/P switchover approach applies cavity pressure profiles requiring sensors embedded in mold cavities, which is invasive to mold cavities and even expensive. Instead of using cavity pressure sensors, this study thereby proposes a novel approach of identifying ideal V/P switchover timing using a tie-bar elongation profile. In this investigation, a dumbbell testing specimen mold is applied to experimentally verify the feasibility of the proposed method. The results showthat the mold filling and packing stages can be observed along the tie-bar elongation profile detected by mounting strain gauges on tie bars. Moreover, the varying process parameter settings including injection speed, filling-to-packing switchover point, and holding pressure, can be reflected in these profiles. By extracting their characteristics, the decision of filling-to-packing switchover is proved to be realistic. © 2019 Society of Plastics Engineers. All rights reserved.

The stuffing box with pedestal (SBP) is a major component in centrifugal pumps (CPs). It is responsible for the transfer of load generated in the CP to the baseplate of the pump and finally to the ground. SBPs are usually fabricated using investment casting;however, this process is prone to residual casting defects, which can reduce mechanical strength and increase the likelihood of crack formation following long-term usage. In this study, the AnyCasting numerical simulation software package was used to optimize the investment parameters for the casting of an SBP in SUS304 alloy. Optimization efforts targeted the shrinkage cavity (based on retained melt modulus) and porosity defects (based on Niyama criterion). The results of preliminary simulations and experiments informed the establishment of five casting schemes for subsequent simulation. We used virtual thermo-dynamic sensors to determine the rate and direction of solidification in the mold cavity, and also investigated variations in the velocity of the molten metal at the inlets of the gating system as a function of time. The optimal casting parameters derived in simulations were assessed by fabricating an SBP via investment casting in a domestic foundry. Nondestructive testing based on X-ray analysis revealed none of the detrimental defects commonly associated with this type of casting. © 2020, Chinese mechanical engineering Society. The growth of consumer electronic products is encouraged by innovations and has stimulated the persistent development of earphones for high-quality sound reproduction. Earbud earphone is located in the concha of the human ear facing an ear-canal. The placement of earphones in the concha plays a remarkable role in the sound pressure level response of an earphone. In this study, ten earphones were tested for frequency response and total harmonic distortion using head and torso simulator in an anechoic chamber. Three positions and two orientations of earphones in the concha were identified for measurement. Based on the responses of all earphones at all orientations and positions, it is concluded that there is a variation in the frequency response and total harmonic distortion. Even though the variation is small in magnitude, its effect on sound perception, sound exposure, and the hearing threshold is phenomenal. Based on the proposition presented in this work and the safe daily sound exposure, it has been determined that the variation in the frequency response affects the perceived loudness of sound and can cause signif-icant differences in the daily sound exposure limit for a human being. © 2020, Canadian Acoustical Association. Thermal Efficiency Simulation of Working Fluids Performance on Small Scale Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) with Biomass Energy

This paper presents the comparative analysis of working fluids R-134a, R-414B, R-404A, and R-407C on small scale Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) with biomass of coconut shell as heat energy. Simulation of the close system using Cycle Tempo software and compared with mathematical calculation models using engineering Equation Solver (EES) software. The property of working fluids is obtained by using Reference Fluid Properties (REFPROP). The best result performance of ORC was shown by working fluid R-404A with thermal efficiency ranges between 7.48-7.53% and electric power output range between 0.074-0.091 kW. This condition operated on the turbine inlet temperature at 60 °C, difference turbine working temperature of 15 °C, condensing temperature of 25 °C, and water boiler mass flow rate of 3 lpm. A comparison of thermal efficiency simulated by Cycles Tempo and EES has an average coefficient of determination (R2) is 99.20%.

The development of materials engineering has led to many significant discoveries one of which is biocomposite with its diverse applications. The addition of reinforcing materials in biopolymers improves the composite properties. This study aimed at investigating the effect of adding nanoclay on the tensile strength, morphology, functional group, and structure of extruded biocomposites with cassava starch matrix. This experimental research involved different concentrations of nanoclay i.e. 0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%. The extrusion process was performed using a single screw extruder at 120°C. The samples were characterized by tensile testing, XRD, and SEM. The biocomposite reinforced with 5% nanoclay had the highest tensile strength of 10.8 MPa. The highest diffraction peak at 2θ of 19.4° appeared in the sample added with 5% nanoclay. The addition of excessive amounts of nanoclay can hinder the formation of exfoliated structures. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2018.

Electrical energy is one of the important energy needs in human life. To meet the electricity needs in the North Maluku area, it was planned to build a diesel power plant (PLTD) in the coastal area of Halmahera. In the activity of the power plant, it produces heat wastewater from the rest of the radiator cooling process. This study, conducted a numerical simulation to determine the thermal dispersion pattern of waste heat from PLTD cooling water in Halmahera waters. Modeling the dispersion of heat waste temperature of PLTD cooling water is carried out using the Ansys CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) method in 3D. The input data are in the form of heat water discharge of 4,000 tons/hour, with heat wastewater temperature 37.5 °C. Ambient seawater temperature is 30.5 °C and seawater density is 1022 kg/m3. Hydrodynamic modeling of oceanic currents is modeled with two variations, namely constant current of 0.4 m/s and UDF current. UDF currents have different current values for each depth with a current velocity of 0.005 m/s up to 0.4 m/s. The simulated results of a constant current show the spread of heat to the environment occurs as far as 210 m to the north of the discharge outlet. The highest temperature value is 37.14°C, the lowest is 30.8°C. For these UDF current models, the heat spread is 210 m to the north of the discharge outlet with the highest temperature value is 37.13°C the lowest is 30.61°C.

Injection molding is one of the most common methods for the mass production of plastic products with complex geometries. However, while injection molding is a highly convenient and cost-effective method, some problems still remain, including warpage, quality variations, surface defects, insufficient physical properties of the finished parts, and so on. During the ejection stage, one of the most serious problems is that of sticking at the interface between the molded part and the cavity surface. The adhesion force inhibits the release of the molded part from the mold surface, and can lead to serious defects, such as distortion and cracking. The adhesion phenomenon is particularly common in the injection molding of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). Numerous factors affect the intensity of the mold adhesion force, including the injection molding conditions, the surface morphology, the surface modification conditions, and the rheological properties of the molten polymer. To clarify the effect of the molding conditions on the mold adhesion level, the present study uses a tensile mode mold adhesion tester to measure the adhesion force for various values of the mold temperature, melt temperature and injection speed. In addition, the surface free energy (SFE) of the molded parts is measured in order to better understand the correlation between the wettability and the processing conditions. © 2018 Society of Plastics Engineers. Indonesia is one of the countries with the third highest air pollution in the world. The biggest contributor air pollution is produced by motorbikes by 60-70%. One the causes of increased exhaust emission is widespread use absorptive exhaust that designed without catalytic converter. The aims of this research is to determine the effect of copper-based catalytic converter with circular tube shape on exhaust emission of Yamaha Vixion 1PA. This study used an experimental research design. The objective of this research is copper catalyst with circular tube shape model. The research instrument used the gas analyzer HG-510 as a test tool for data collection of exhaust emission. Data analysis using inferential statistical techniques paired sample T test through the SPSS 24 statistical analysis application. The results showed that the addition of copper catalytic converter with a circular tube shape model can reduce CO exhaust emission by 16.67%, whereas for exhaust emission HC can be reduced by 32.54%.

This paper presents an analysis study of customer reservation behavior in Agrotourism N8 based on recency, frequency and monetary (RFM) method. The historical data from January to December 2016 were collected from Rancabali tour and used for RFM analysis. Prior to the RFM analysis, the data were grouped into frequency and monetary using mean shift clustering. This analysis will provide the guideline to Agrotourism N8 to predict the customer needs in the future based on historical data. The RFM method shows that Rancabali tour always crowded with visitors until the end of each month. The highest number of visitors occurred in January, July, and December. Moreover, The highest revenue earned in December. The mean shift shows the income-based cluster by the frequency of customer.
