The aim of this paper was to demonstrate the baffled effect of mobile phone panel at higher frequencies and presents an approach for localizing the optimal position of microphone receiving hole in the mobile phone with the aid of Abaqus commercial software and verification experiment conducted in anechoic chamber. Due to rapid technological development, the mobile phone has not only become a communication device, but also a daily necessity. In addition to the requirement for slim design, improvements are needed in the clarity and quality of sound, especially for the microphone system at higher frequencies. One of the influencing factors is the baffled effect from the panel design, especially in the smart phone. Thus, this paper mainly focuses on the influence of this effect in the mobile phone panel. The results revealed the optimal location of microphone receiving hole using Abaqus software, tested in anechoic chamber. With Abaqus software, the existence of baffled effect in the mobile phone panel can be clearly demonstrated, especially at higher frequencies. Moreover, the variations and relationships of sound field with different sizes and positions of panel can be analyzed. Many commercial mobile phones are also modelled using FEM software, with verification in anechoic chamber. There is perfect agreement between simulated and experimental results. Transferred frequency, in the range of 5 kHz to 6 kHz, causes sound pressure to drastically change and may prove useful in the design process. Finally, all receiving characteristics of microphone system, including the influence of internal components and external baffled effect, had been programmed and integrated in a graphic user interface (GUI) system.

In the gear-hobbing process, the work gear tooth flank is usually longitudinally crowned by varying the center distance between the hob and the work gear. Without crossed angle compensation, however, this center distance variation produces a twisted tooth flank on the work gear. This paper therefore proposes a methodology to reduce this tooth flank twist and achieve anti-Twist in longitudinal crowning by modifying the gear rotation angle in the hobbing process which is practiced using a CNC hobbing machine with three synchronous axes. © 2017 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

This article develops a robust simulation procedure to predict the electromagnetic and acoustic properties of loudspeaker with commercial finite element software. The performance of loudspeaker is essentially difficult to analyse and predict, not to mention the conditions without the design specifications. With the aid of FEMM, FINEMotor, Klippel system, and SoundCheck system, thus, a simulation procedure applied in the commercial finite element software-COMSOL Multiphysics is created in this article. Through the optimizations of magnetic resistance, relative permeability coefficient in the electromagnetic part, and Young's modulus and loss factor in the mechanical part, simulation results were in good agreement with actual measurements. After repeated verifications, this finite element simulation procedure is not only suitable for the predictions of loudspeaker performance, but also speed up the traditional simulation. © 25th International Congress on Sound and Vibration 2018, ICSV 2018: Hiroshima Calling. There are many various types of performances choosing to use indoor venues in recent years, but most of the arenas' acoustics in the early design is based on events, speeches and orchestra[1][2][3]. Now, due to the change of performance types, there is a need for change to increase the electro-sound and Louder-speaker system to enhance the sound pressure and music's dynamic at the venues[4]. At present, the venues for indoor performances are often in short supply, so the shows production team must perform in not so acoustically ideal conditions, such as balcony floor between the audience when in the large sound pressure, because the mezzanine factor caused the perception of the sound[5] and other roofless space is much worse, as the clarity and the overall sense of space are often a matter of audience reaction. © "Advances in Acoustics, Noise and Vibration - 2021" Proceedings of the 27th International Congress on Sound and Vibration, ICSV 2021. For measuring the rotation engine vibration signals, the mechanical or acoustical sensors are dif-ficult to get the clean signals from the heavy background noise of the machinery environment. The noise reduction algorithm may anticipate to decrease the background noise without disturbing the unpolluted signal. The spectral subtraction methods for noise attenuation case are reached for many years due to its simple and effectively. In this paper, the proposed algorithm incorporates the multiscale spectral subtraction method (MSS) with voice activity detector (VAD) and sup-ports vector machine (SVM) for removing the background noise, since SVM can be required for distinguishing a multivariate signal into separated subcomponents. From the analysis case for the rotating machinery, MSS shows that the low frequency with their harmonics frequencies can be tracked through the clustering of the data from SVM. The present method is helpful in background noise and signal compartmentalization as its application can significantly lower the requirement for labelled training cases in both the inductive noise and wanted signals.

Silencers have widespread applications. In industrial settings they are used at large-scale combustion, gas turbine, blower and compressor system junction points to control noise. The most common methods of noise elimination via silencer are varying of the size and cross-sectional area of the transmission pipe such that during sound wave transmission, non-uniform impedance is produced. Partial sound wave reflection is an echo source or consumes the energy of transmitted sound waves to achieve noise elimination. In this study, COMSOL Multiphysics, commercial finite element analysis and simulation software, was the main analytical tool. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of variations in silencer structure on acoustic attenuation. Based on finite element method simulation, the optimal silencer geometry for noise cancellation was determined.

Quality control is a crucial issue in the injection molding process with target of obtaining a high yield rate and reducing production cost. However, conventional injection molding acts like a black-box in which the flowing behavior of polymer melt within cavities is unseen, and the tuning of process parameters is heavily relied on operators' experience, design of experimental methods, or even trial- and-error. Such approaches are not only time-consuming but also lack of assuring consistent injection molding qualities and quality control is then required. Nowadays with the advance of sensing technology, many sensors are available to detect the flowing behavior of polymer melt within mold cavities. Particularly the pressure, velocity, and temperature that affect the flowing ability of polymer melt can be detected in time. In other words, injection molding now has been transformed into a grey-box and a scientific viewpoint to tune process parameters can be realized. In this research, a quality index extracted from pressure profile is aimed for online quality monitoring. In addition, the clamping force increment quality index extracted from the tie-bar elongation which is detected by strain gauges attached on tie bars, free of invading injection mold structure, is paid much attention. To verify the feasibility of the designed quality index using to prediction the injection molded quality, varying barrel temperature, back pressure and rotational speed of plasticizing screw those can affect the plasticizing quality of raw materials are conducted in this investigation. Experimental results reveals that the clamping force increment as well as pressure peak index extracted from injection system pressure, nozzle pressure, end-of-filling cavity pressure profiles during injection molding are highly correlated with injection-molded qualities and thereby are feasible to be a good quality indicator. © 2019 Society of Plastics Engineers. Filling-to-packing switchover (also called as V/P switchover) is critical for assuring injection molding quality. An improper filling-to-packing switchover setting may result in various defects of injection-molded parts, such as excessive residual stress, flash, short shot, and warpage, etc. To enhance consistent molding quality, recent V/P switchover approach applies cavity pressure profiles requiring sensors embedded in mold cavities, which is invasive to mold cavities and even expensive. Instead of using cavity pressure sensors, this study thereby proposes a novel approach of identifying ideal V/P switchover timing using a tie-bar elongation profile. In this investigation, a dumbbell testing specimen mold is applied to experimentally verify the feasibility of the proposed method. The results showthat the mold filling and packing stages can be observed along the tie-bar elongation profile detected by mounting strain gauges on tie bars. Moreover, the varying process parameter settings including injection speed, filling-to-packing switchover point, and holding pressure, can be reflected in these profiles. By extracting their characteristics, the decision of filling-to-packing switchover is proved to be realistic. © 2019 Society of Plastics Engineers. All rights reserved.

Screw rotors of a twin screw compressor often deform and interfere due to the cyclic gas pressure and working temperature, which lead to noise, vibration and abrasion of the screw rotors. Therefore, this paper proposed a simplified CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) method instead of the past massive and complex CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) method to simulate and estimate reasonably the screw rotor load and deformation with considering the gas pressure and working temperature applied on its operating process. The analysis results could provide the possible maximum rotor deformation and cyclic load acting on the rotors for design consideration.

Injection molding is one of the most common methods for the mass production of plastic products with complex geometries. However, while injection molding is a highly convenient and cost-effective method, some problems still remain, including warpage, quality variations, surface defects, insufficient physical properties of the finished parts, and so on. During the ejection stage, one of the most serious problems is that of sticking at the interface between the molded part and the cavity surface. The adhesion force inhibits the release of the molded part from the mold surface, and can lead to serious defects, such as distortion and cracking. The adhesion phenomenon is particularly common in the injection molding of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). Numerous factors affect the intensity of the mold adhesion force, including the injection molding conditions, the surface morphology, the surface modification conditions, and the rheological properties of the molten polymer. To clarify the effect of the molding conditions on the mold adhesion level, the present study uses a tensile mode mold adhesion tester to measure the adhesion force for various values of the mold temperature, melt temperature and injection speed. In addition, the surface free energy (SFE) of the molded parts is measured in order to better understand the correlation between the wettability and the processing conditions. © 2018 Society of Plastics Engineers.
