Coastal regions are crucial for human settlements, and comprehending the risks they pose is imperative. This study introduces a comprehensive risk assessment framework employing numerical simulations of rogue waves for reef coasts in Taiwan. This methodology integrates bathymetric data, wave conditions, and the FLOW-3D computational fluid dynamics model to replicate wave patterns and their evolution in nearshore areas. Such integration permits the assessment of rogue wave occurrence probability and associated hazard level ratings for designated reef coast sites in Taiwan. The study analyzed 30 reef coast locations, focusing specifically on the likelihood and hazard scores of rogue waves. An evaluation of historical wave data and simulation results revealed that zones with elevated rogue wave occurrence probabilities align with previous incident patterns. This framework offers invaluable insights into latent risks, thereby enhancing coastal safety and benefiting engineering strategies. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The eye tracking obtains the position data of both eyes;the fuzzy intent decision maker chooses the desired action for embedded vehicle. The action operation instructions are sent to edge computing to control the appliance and algorithm. The proposed article adopts eye aspect ratio and facial landmark detection with built-in pop count of XNOR-net to judgment driver monitoring system (DMS) on APEX2 and ARM NEON for NXP S32V234 platform. Verification of facial landmark detection and human behavior based on the human face image feature by camera is studied. Implementation network of the computing time upgrade to 59 ms from original 1624 ms under the accuracy loss is smaller than 3%. The overall algorithm has been improved to 16 fps from 0.5 fps. © 2021 IEEE.

This study uses a conjoint analysis approach to determine the key factors influencing subscriber preferences for subscribing to Netflix plan. In a rapidly evolving industry, understanding the drivers of subscription choices is critical for market success. Through a designed survey, respondents are presented with different hypothetical Netflix subscription plans characterized by attributes such as price, resolution, same time watch device, downloadable device and device specs. By analyzing respondents’ answers from these attributes, researchers aim to find out the relatedness of each attribute and levels with the subscription preference. The study’s findings can help Netflix make more strategic decisions about plan options and pricing policies, so that it can better serve the wide range of demands and tastes of customers in the cutthroat streaming market.

The field of dermatology faces considerable challenges when it comes to early detection of skin cancer. Our study focused on using different datasets, including original data, augmented data, and SMOTE oversampled data, to identify skin cancer. Our dataset consisted of images of skin lesions from the MNIST Skin Cancer dataset (HAM 10000), including samples of both cancerous and benign cases in the dataset. We employed data augmentation to expand the dataset’s size and increase the diversity of skin lesion features. Furthermore, to tackle class imbalance in the dataset, we applied the SMOTE oversampling technique to generate synthetic samples for the under-represented group. With the original, augmented, and SMOTE oversampled datasets, we trained a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model. The performance of the model was evaluated using accuracy, recall, precision, and F1-score. The comparison between the results obtained from the original data, augmented data, and SMOTE oversampling data clearly revealed distinctions in performance. Our findings clearly demonstrate that employing data augmentation and SMOTE oversampling can significantly enhance the efficacy of skin cancer detection.

This article introduces a 20-bit pipelined analog to digital converter and low noise amplifier with a wake-up receiver from an RF detector in a double-sided stacked-up integrated circuit as a neural recording device. The proposed design is to obtain stable built-in action and local field potential. The optimized phase margin of ideal degrees is made sure as compared with original solutions. This article introduces a solution for early diagnoses by establishing a neural recording architecture to measure electroencephalography (EEG) signal along with a deep neural network (DNN) that classify the suspected patients. © 2021 ECBIOS 2021. The Smart Power Grid (SPG) is pivotal in orchestrating and managing demand response in contemporary smart cities, leveraging the prowess of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Within the immersive SPG environment, the ubiquitous deployment of smart meters stands as a testament to their paramount importance in the realm of vigilant monitoring and oversight. These smart meters are installed on high-tension electricity lines and transmit information about electricity outages and other issues to the utility center. To access services from utility centers, smart meters need to communicate securely over a public channel, even though the network itself is insecure. However, potential attacks from adversaries ( Ad) can exploit this communication. Therefore, protecting this communication is of utmost importance. Several privacy-preserving authentication protocols designed for SPG have been introduced in the literature. Nevertheless, a significant number of these protocols exhibit vulnerabilities to diverse security attacks. This article introduces a lightweight and anonymous authentication protocol specifically designed to address these concerns in the SPG environment. Our protocol ensures both security and efficiency, surpassing other comparable protocols in terms of its lightweight nature. By employing both formal and informal analysis, we showcase the robustness of our protocol against significant attacks while remaining lightweight. The proposed protocol provides added security features and incurs 23.8879% lower computation cost than related protocols. Consequently, our protocol is highly suitable for implementation in the SPG system. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper applies ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm for the dual-pin flying probe circuit board inspection optimal path searching problem. First, the proposed approach creates a representation for circuit inspection path, which groups and encodes the measurement endpoints into a sequence. Moreover, the ant colony algorithm with the sequence can be used to solve the complex circuit optimal problem. The experimental results show that the best solutions of ACO are performed better than other algorithms.

Crawler cranes are used in various applications, including plant construction and civil engineering. However, accidents caused by hazardous events, such as overturning the entire body or overshadowing of a suspended load, can be problematic. Because crawler cranes are large and powerful machines, simulators are required to analyze the relationship between such hazardous events and human operations. This study proposed a framework for a mixed-reality simulator to analyze the interactions between humans and crawler cranes. This framework combined the high-performance graphics capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 with the high-precision multibody dynamics analysis of MATLAB Simscape to create a visually and physically realistic simulation. Moreover, the quantification of the decision-making process was possible based on the eye-tracking information of the operator. This study described the implementation of these features and discussed the prospects for human-crawler crane interaction analysis using this simulator.

Bragg scattering of gravity waves by a sea bed of varying depth in the presence of uniform current covered by a floating membrane

We present an asymptotic approach to solving the water wave scattering by undulating bottom topography in the presence of uniform currents where a flexible membrane covers the upper surface. The interest in this problem lies in the development of asymptotic solutions using the Fourier transform under the action of uniform currents. The method allows the physical processes involved in the sea-bed topography and membrane-covered surface and wave interactions to be studied. In particular, we identify the existence of Bragg resonance between gravity waves and the bottom ripples, which are associated with the reflection of incident wave energy. We consider the impacts of uniform current, and we highlight the central role of the asymptotic expansion method in the evolution of the response of current. For depth Froude number in the range of 0.4-0.7, the effects of bottom topography on Bragg resonance dominate. The current shifts the frequency of the most reflected wave components, and wave action conservation results in amplified reflected wave energies for the following currents. The theory developed in the frequency domain is illustrated in the time domain using discrete Fourier transform with the Joint North Sea Wave Observation Project (JONSWAP) spectrum [Hasselmann et al., J. Phys. Oceanogr. 10, 1264 (1980)] to analyze wave propagation through the whole system. © 2024 Author(s).
