Due to the change in life style and the gradual rise of health awareness, more and more people have given up their jobs, returned to the countryside, and bought or rented a small piece of land to live the life of small farmers. Therefore, small agricultural machinery will gradually have a place in the future market. In this paper, aiming at small and medium-sized farmers of cucumber planting, we have designed a prototype of a mobile robot for harvesting low-hanging crop like cucumbers. It is based on the NI roboRIO controller, and Mecanum-wheels are used as the moving wheel. After preliminary real-machine simulation, it was verified that the designed robot can meet the needs of assisting the harvesting of hanging crops.

The utilization of graphitic carbon nitride (C3N4) to enhance the oxidative polymerization of hydroquinone (HQ) within birnessite (δ-MnO2) systems was investigated. C3N4, a Lewis base enriched with nitrogen, acted as a bridge through π−π interactions between metal oxides and polyphenols. These interactions increased the affinity of the reactants, resulting in an enhanced reaction rate of six-fold, accelerated browning, and improved complex stability of C3N4...HQ...MnO2 complex. As a result, a humic-like substance (HS) was rapidly formed with improved surface morphology and larger particle sizes. Electron transfer of HQ...MnO2 promoted by C3N4 played a crucial role in HQ oxidation, expanding atomic distance and composite morphology. Theoretical calculations supported the experimental results, indicating strong affinity and higher binding energies in the C3N4...HQ...MnO2 complex. The complex had a more stable structure with a narrower HOMO-LUMO gap, facilitating HS formation. 13C and 1H NMR spectra confirmed the experimental-theoretical agreement. © 2023, The Authors. The stuffing box with pedestal (SBP) is a major component in centrifugal pumps (CPs). It is responsible for the transfer of load generated in the CP to the baseplate of the pump and finally to the ground. SBPs are usually fabricated using investment casting;however, this process is prone to residual casting defects, which can reduce mechanical strength and increase the likelihood of crack formation following long-term usage. In this study, the AnyCasting numerical simulation software package was used to optimize the investment parameters for the casting of an SBP in SUS304 alloy. Optimization efforts targeted the shrinkage cavity (based on retained melt modulus) and porosity defects (based on Niyama criterion). The results of preliminary simulations and experiments informed the establishment of five casting schemes for subsequent simulation. We used virtual thermo-dynamic sensors to determine the rate and direction of solidification in the mold cavity, and also investigated variations in the velocity of the molten metal at the inlets of the gating system as a function of time. The optimal casting parameters derived in simulations were assessed by fabricating an SBP via investment casting in a domestic foundry. Nondestructive testing based on X-ray analysis revealed none of the detrimental defects commonly associated with this type of casting. © 2020, Chinese Mechanical engineering Society. Evacuation route during a disaster with health protocol in the new normal era

The southern coast of Java Island, one of which is Sumbermanjing Wetan District, Malang Regency, is considered prone to the geological disaster tsunami. Sumbermanjing Wetan District is directly adjacent to the Indian Ocean, a seismic gap zone that produces geological processes and high-intensity seismic activity that can trigger tsunami waves. On June 13, 2021, the COVID-19 outbreak in Sumbermanjing Wetan District recorded 90 suspected cases (two were hospitalized and the other 88 were self-isolating at home), and 38 were confirmed positive for COVID-19 (34 recovered and 4 died). This research focuses on evacuation plans for coastal areas from the threat of a tsunami during the pandemic and the new normal era. The sub-variables for determining the shelters include building area, type of building, ease of access, building construction, and capacity. The sub-variables for determining the evacuation route include road class, pavement type, and road width. Meanwhile, the sub-variables for implementing health protocols in the new normal era are maintaining distance, wearing masks, washing hands, special treatment for symptomatic refugees, and implementing other health protocols. The implementation of health protocols in evacuation activities will bring an impact on the reduction of the available shelter's capacity. The study results indicate the need for additional new shelters to implement health protocols in the new normal era. With this addition, it will impact the travel time from the residential areas at risk of tsunami impacts to the shelters. One of the reasons is that the closest shelter to the residential area is already full of refugees, so the refugees have to move and evacuate to the other shelters that can still accommodate them.

Smart Fish Feeder is an automatic fish feeder that can be controlled using android smartphone. With this tool, fish owners will easily adjust the feeding schedule according to the recommended feed dose, and provide aquarium cleaning scheduling. In designing a fish feeder, there are some criteria such as temperature and time interval of feeding. The data collection has been done by interviewing ornamental fish traders. The data also has been obtained from literature studies that support problem solving theory. The Laravel framework is used to interpret the system while Firebase as the Database Management System. The Android is as a front end that interacts directly with the user. Automatic fish feeding systems are implemented using arduino micro-controller and prototype feeding devices. This research uses Fuzzy Logic Controller method. With the creation of the prototype smart fish feeder the device functions well in terms of both controller and push data. The results of the calculation of the duration of fish feed using the Fuzzy Sugeno Algorithm have been successfully applied to the smart fish feeder.

Sorting municipal solid waste (MSW) at the source is a critical first step toward achieving a circular economy. Previous research has primarily focused on vision-based intelligent algorithms for MSW classification using red–green–blue (RGB) images. Some studies have also explored sound-based classification; however, only a few studies have employed multimodal deep learning methods (MDLMs) that integrate both image and sound data for MSW identification. To address this gap, the present study developed an innovative intelligent waste bin (IWB) prototype that utilizes MDLM and multimodal data fusion to enhance MSW classification. First, the sorting bin was constructed and an MSW dataset was constructed containing both audio signals and RGB images. The audio data were converted into Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs), and feature extraction from RGB images and MFCCs was performed using ResNet-101 and a Long Short-Term Memory network (LSTM) network, respectively. These features were then concatenated and fused within the MDLM model to classify MSW, which in turn controlled servomotors and rotatable boards in the IWB to automatically sort the waste. The results of this study clearly indicate that using sound modality alone is more effective for MSW identification than using RGB images. Based on fivefold cross-validation results, the MDLM model generally achieved higher average accuracy than the LSTM model, which used only sound features. However, the improvement was relatively modest, as the LSTM already achieved a high accuracy of approximately 90%. In the actual MSW sorting test using the IWB, the MDLM model also outperformed the LSTM, further confirming the advantages of multimodal fusion. Future research could explore the inclusion of a larger number of RGB images to develop more robust fusion features and further enhance the performance of the MDLM model.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has become integral to modern construction management in China, yet its successful implementation has been hindered by a shortage of skilled BIM personnel and high turnover rates. This study investigates the key factors influencing turnover intention among BIM workers in China through a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. Survey data were collected from 558 BIM practitioners and researchers across various regions in China. The SEM results revealed that three work-related factors—management and staff cooperation, working hours, and satisfaction with salary and incentives—significantly affected BIM workers' turnover intentions. Notably, the influence of these factors on turnover intention was fully mediated by two pivotal attitudinal variables: job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Among the predictors, excessive working hours emerged as the most salient driver heightening turnover intention, whereas strong team cooperation and competitive, fair rewards reduce the propensity to leave by enhancing worker satisfaction and commitment. The integrated model developed in this research advances understanding of BIM workforce retention and can be generalized to similar project-based contexts. The findings provide an evidence-based foundation for policymakers and industry leaders to devise strategies (e.g., improving working conditions, strengthening organizational support) aimed at increasing job satisfaction and commitment, thereby mitigating turnover intention among BIM workers. © 2025 The Authors

The deterioration of the surfaces of the constructions made with mortar C/A 1: 5 of Portland cement, are produced by being exposed to the emission of toxic gases emanating from the growing automobile fleet, this problem causes alternatives to be sought in order to counteract its effect on buildings and the environment. A new method to deal this problem is the incorporation of the titanium dioxide photocatalyst (TiO2) into the Portland cement mortar, which can develop self-cleaning and air purification properties to be in contact with sunlight. This work seeks to introduce this organic component to the Portland cement mortar, used for the facade charging and structural elements, for this purpose, different percentages (5%, 7.5% and 10%) of titanium dioxide (TiO2) are added and the properties of the modified mortars making use of [1] compression tests, [2] fluidity tests, [3] absorption tests and [4] photocatalytic activity tests with which the self-cleaning capacity was verified. This study concludes that the best percentage of titanium dioxide addition is 5%, with which the Portland cement mortar is granted self-cleaning property without substantially damaging its mechanical properties.

Deep learning based signal enhancement of low-resolution accelerometer for fall detection systems

In the last two decades, fall detection (FD) systems have been developed as a popular assistive technology. To support long-term FD services, various power-saving strategies have been implemented. Among them, a reduced sampling rate is a common approach for an energy-efficient system in the real world. However, the performance of FD systems is diminished flowing to low-resolution (LR) accelerometer signals. To improve the detection accuracy with LR accelerometer signals, several technical challenges must be considered, including mismatch of effective features and the degradation effects. In this work, a deeplearning-based accelerometer signal enhancement (ASE) model is proposed as a front-end processor to help typical LR-FD systems achieve better detection performance. The proposed ASE model based on a deep denoising convolutional autoencoder architecture reconstructs high-resolution (HR) signals from the LR signals by learning the relationship between the LR and HR signals.
