Fall accidents are critical issues in an aging and aged society. Recently, many researchers developed "pre-impact fall detection systems"using deep learning to support wearable-based fall protection systems for preventing severe injuries. However, most works only employed simple neural network models instead of complex models considering the usability in resource-constrained mobile devices and strict latency requirements. In this work, we propose a novel pre-impact fall detection via CNN-ViT knowledge distillation, namely PreFallKD, to strike a balance between detection performance and computational complexity. The proposed PreFallKD transfers the detection knowledge from the pre-trained teacher model (vision transformer) to the student model (lightweight convolutional neural networks). Additionally, we apply data augmentation techniques to tackle issues of data imbalance. We conduct the experiment on the KFall public dataset and compare PreFallKD with other state-of-the-art models. The experiment results show that PreFallKD could boost the student model during the testing phase and achieves reliable F1-score (92.66%) and lead time (551.3 ms). © 2023 IEEE.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the quadrotor type are widely used in both civilian and military applications due to their superior maneuverability, lower manufacturing costs, and the absence of crew risk. This has led to an increased demand for control and navigation systems that enable autonomous operation, allowing quadrotors to follow desired flight paths and avoid obstacles. In this study, an obstacle detection and avoidance system for an autonomous quadrotor was designed and implemented. The obstacle detection system can detect obstacles up to 7 meters away with a mean average precision (mAP) of 89.63%. The position estimation system can estimate obstacle positions up to 6 meters on the y-axis and 1.2 meters on the x-axis, with average errors of 0.146 meters and 0.019 meters, respectively. The flight route planning system uses the A* algorithm to calculate the shortest path to the target while avoiding obstacles. Based on test results, the quadrotor successfully detects obstacles, estimates their positions, determines the optimal flight route, and follows it with a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.101 meters, demonstrating reliable autonomous operation.

Patent intellectual property in social informatics with entrepreneurship support creates greater opportunities to improve human life. It has the potential to open enormous innovation opportunities in various fields, such as technology, health, services, and society. This research was conducted to review the patent landscape and the main trends of patents on social informatics in all countries. Researchers applied a patent landscape analysis using data on 487 patent documents over 16 years from the *** database. The study results show yearly patented development patterns related to social informatics. There is a royalty-free opportunity by using 15 patent discontinued. Patent related to social informatics was dominated by company ownership and inventors from the United States. The patent physics (G) section overwhelmed patents related to social informatics. There were 334 simple family patents on social informatics in nine jurisdictions;the United States was the highest. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

The impact of film thickness and annealing temperature on the structural, electrical, magnetic, and mechanical properties of cobalt–iron–dysprosium (Co40Fe40Dy20 ) thin films deposited on Si(100) substrates have been investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the film's crystalline microstructure, featuring dysprosium oxide, Dy2O3(440), and cobalt oxide, Co2O3(422) and Co2O3(511), crystallographic phases. Surface energy measurements indicated a noticeable reduction in surface energy following annealing treatments, which could be ascribed to the alleviation of residual stress and enhanced atomic arrangement, resulting in a more stable film structure with reduced surface energy. The film exhibited a decreasing trend in hardness with increasing thickness, and film resistivity was significantly responsive to alterations in thickness and annealing temperature. Notably, the Co40Fe40Dy20 film demonstrated exceptional characteristics, featuring a high saturation magnetization (Ms) of 675 emu/cm3 and a low coercivity (Hc) of 9.5 Oe. Further analysis of magnetic domains and hysteresis loops revealed that larger and brighter domains were associated with higher Hc. To sum up, the surface roughness of CoFeDy films under various annealing temperatures played a pivotal role in shaping their magnetic, electrical, adhesive, and optical characteristics. An improved low-frequency alternating current magnetic susceptibility (χac) value was achieved by minimizing the pinning effect on domain walls through surface smoothing. Moreover, smoother surfaces displayed heightened carrier conductivity, resulting in a decrease in electrical resistance. On the whole, Co40Fe40Dy20 films exhibited outstanding soft magnetic properties, encompassing high saturation magnetization, low coercivity, exceptional mechanical attributes, and decreased surface energy. Mg-Sn alloy thin films have garnered significant attention for their outstanding thermoelectric (TE) properties and cost-effective elemental composition, making them potential candidates for wearable energy harvesting devices. While previous studies have explored the properties of these thin films, limited research has been conducted to identify physical factors that can further enhance their performance. In this study, we present a novel approach utilizing a convenient electron beam coevaporation technique to fabricate Mg-Sn alloy thin films. Experimental results revealed that controlling the tin content in the Mg-Sn thin films at 38.9% led to the formation of a mixed-phase structure, comprising Mg2Sn and Mg9Sn5. This dual-phase structure exhibited a notable advantage in enhancing the TE performance. The presence of the Mg9Sn5 phase significantly increased the carrier concentration, while maintaining the original Seebeck coefficient and mobility, thereby improving the conductivity of Mg2Sn. Theoretical calculations indicated that the Mg9Sn5 phase displayed 1D-like characteristics, leading to a highly effective valley degeneracy and consequently a high power factor. Overall, this work introduces a promising approach to fabricate high-performance Mg-Sn alloy thin films through electron beam coevaporation, opening up possibilities for their application in wearable energy harvesting devices. © 2024 American Chemical Society.

The stock market is one of the investment options that offer the best potential returns. However, investors are aware of the risk associated with their investments, which is why stock portfolios are established to diversify investments or distribute investments. Managing a portfolio may be challenging because there are so many different stocks. One of the challenges is deciding how much money to invest and how to allocate it for the best results. This paper used the K-means Algorithm for cluster analysis in identifying Decision Making Unit (DMU), the stocks will be grouped according to their characteristics considering their risk and return. Asset allocation per clustered portfolio was performed and the Mean-Variance Model was used to optimize clustered portfolios. This paper aims to use Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to evaluate the efficiency of these clustered portfolios/DMUs. In addition, this paper introduces subjective choice in decision-making using the criterion's level of importance to help investors decide which among these efficient DMUs is a better option. The results show 4 Efficient DMUs for 2019 Data, and 3 Efficient DMUs in 2020 Data. All simulations were carried out using the MATLAB environment platform. © 2023 IEEE.

Investment is a lifetime work. Investing in stocks is a popular measure. However, investing in stocks is not easy, and losing money is not uncommon. We investigate if there is a systematic way to find buyable stocks and more importantly when to buy and sell them. Nowadays, with the progress of hardwarel, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a feasible solution to many issues. Machine learning and deep learning are two widely adopted methods in AI. In this study, we show how to apply machine learning to stock prediction and recommendation. After trials, we found that LightGBM shows its potential to predict and recommend stocks. We used the data of the Taiwan stock market to validate the method. We compared the prediction and recommendation with the wellknown Taiwan ETFs 0050 and 0056. The results show that the method is feasible, effective, efficient, and has better performance than Taiwan ETFs 0050 and 0056. © 2022 IEEE.

Construction teams are responsible for building complex projects within the allotted budget, time and expected quality. Thus, team members must be able to work with each other to avoid any complications during the construction process. As such, team supervisors must select from a pool of applicants or from their current roster of workers, which would be composed of different personalities and capabilities. This paper aims to identify the preferences of team supervisors when building up their team using conjoin analysis. The study found out that supervisors would like to have workers that respects and values their work and can work harmoniously with others. This study is beneficial for the human resource department of construction companies when recruiting workers, for the management when trying to develop their current personnel and for the workers who are trying to improve themselves. © 2024 ACM.

A customer service chatbot enhanced with conversational language understanding and knowledge base is developed. Here, we explore LUIS and QnA Maker which are unified as Azure cognitive service for language. LUIS is a cloudbased conversational AI service that responds a user intelligence. QnA maker is a knowledge base for custom question answering. This question-and-answer knowledge base is especially useful for customer dialogs. Hence, by combining the services, we provide a smart response and provide a knowledge base to understand and improve the service. We implement this chatbot on the LINE Bot platform. Users easily access it by simply adding the representative of this chatbot on LINE. In addition, we put marketing information through this chatbot. The experiments are conducted, and the results show the chatbot is feasible and has a high user acceptance. © 2022 IEEE.

Wireless sensors and actor networks (WSANs) have been widely used in various fields, from basic data collection to precise real-time control and monitoring, including battlefield monitoring, rescue, and exploration. The actor nodes in a WSAN play a key role in processing and transmitting data, and because of the harsh environmental conditions encountered, network node failures are prone to occur. The failure of an actor causes a loss of connectivity with its neighbor nodes, resulting in network splits and failure to deliver messages between nodes. Therefore, determining how to quickly and autonomously recover network connectivity while minimizing the moving distance of backup nodes and the number of relocated nodes is crucial. In this paper, we propose a dynamic weight-based connectivity recovery (DWCR) method to minimize the total moving distance of actor nodes, the number of relocated nodes, the total messages sent, and the coverage loss rate. The proposed DWCR method involves selecting a backup node for each critical node by dynamically adjusting the weight. If a critical node fails, the backup node starts to move to restore the connectivity of the failed node. The simulation results indicate that the proposed DWCR method outperforms the recovery through inward motion (RIM) method and other methods in terms of minimizing the total moving distance, the number of relocated nodes, and the total messages sent. However, because the RIM algorithm requires the relocation of more nodes during the network process, the DWCR algorithm is slightly inferior to the RIM algorithm in terms of coverage loss rate. Nevertheless, the DWCR algorithm still outperforms the distributed actor recovery algorithm and the distributed autonomous connectivity restoration method based on finite state machine algorithm. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.
