Predicting student academic performance is a critical challenge in higher education that aims to improve the quality of learning and optimize support for students. The main issues faced are how to choose the right prediction model, utilize optimization methods, and improve prediction accuracy. This paper presents a systematic review of the literature related to various prediction models, ranging from traditional statistical models to machine learning and ensemble/hybrid models, and discusses optimization techniques such as evolutionary algorithms. In addition, determinants of academic performance such as motivation, student engagement, and institutional support are identified as important variables in predicting learning outcomes. The datasets used, model evaluation methods, and technologies and tools that support the analysis process are also discussed in detail. The results of this review show that a hybrid approach that combines machine learning and optimization techniques is able to provide more accurate predictions compared to traditional models. This paper also highlights existing limitations, including challenges in model generalization, and provides policy recommendations to improve the effectiveness of academic performance prediction and its implementation in educational practice. © 2024 IEEE.

Infertile patients may be a high-risk group of mental disorder. The precise identification of the mental status of infertile patients can provide decision support to healthcare professionals and may be helpful in providing preventive measures accordingly. Rare studies focused on the mental status identification using artificial intelligence (AI) models for infertile people. This study aimed to precisely identify the mental status (anxiety and depression) of infertile patients using three AI models, the XGBoost, decision tree, and stacking models. The dataset, retrieved from a structured questionnaire survey in 2011, which included 400 infertility outpatients seeking reproductive treatments at three teaching hospitals in Taiwan was adopted for training and testing AI models. Aforementioned AI models were designed and reached identification performances of accuracy, precision, recall and area under ROC curve (AUC) equaling 0.75–0.82, 0.70–0.80, 0.64–0.72, and 0.64–0.72, respectively. The XGBoost model (accuracy = 0.82, precision = 0.80, recall = 0.72, and AUC = 0.72) outperformed or equaled the decision tree and stacking models in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and AUC values. Designed AI models for mental status identification can be integrated into the clinical decision support system (CDSS) to provide the anxiety and depression group automatically. eLearning has been utilized as a mode of instruction among medical students amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The present study aimed to investigate the factors influencing the acceptance of eLearning platforms in medical education during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines by employing the latent variables of UTAUT2, along with two additional latent variables gathered from various related literature. A sum of 360 medical students participated and answered an online survey that consists of 40 questions. A stepwise multiple linear regression was utilized and found that performance expectancy (PE), habit (HB), and instructor characteristics (IC), can successfully predict the actual use (AU) of medical students with a precision of 54.22%. A higher performance expectancy (PE), habit (HB), and instructor characteristics (IC) can enhance and promote the acceptance of medical eLearning platforms. This is the first study that has examined the acceptance of eLearning platforms among medical students in the Philippines during the COVID-19 pandemic. The outcomes of this research can serve as guidelines for the Commission on Higher Education of the Philippines for the enhancement of eLearning platforms. Although this study only utilized the latent variables of UTAUT2 along with two additional variables: Learning Value and Instructor Characteristics;the findings of this study would still hold significant value for promoting open innovation in eLearning platforms in medical fields worldwide. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). Non-conformance cost is one of the key performance indicators in determining the success of executing a project. This study will substantiate the significance of two consecutive fiscal years of non-conformance cost data set in project execution of smart grid. A two-Sample T-Test was used to compare the means of two consecutive years' data sets. All the results of both fiscal years' data set were insignificant. Since it is insignificant, the best recommendation is to thoroughly review the lessons learned from the previous projects and implementation of preventive actions to mitigate or even prevent the occurrence/ reoccurrence of non-conformance and non-conformance costs. A continuous improvement in preventing failures will assure success and increase the profitability margin of the project. © 2023 ACM.

Due to pandemic Covid-19, there is an increase and rough transition into remote work. Communication tools/platforms are softwares used by industries to facilitate different functionalities like remote technical support and communication. Especially for service industries, coordinators and engineers adapted on using these tools to support internal and external communications. For a certain machine service company, Skype and Microsoft Teams are the main communication tools used. The objective of this study is to determine the usability/user experience of these tools of engineers and coordinators on their daily activities. System Usability Scale were used to evaluate their user experience. As interpreted using the Curved Grading Scale, only the use of Microsoft Teams of Coordinators is graded as D, and the rest are graded as F. Based on the results on the user experience of coordinators and engineers using platforms Microsoft Teams and Skype, the low scores show that they are struggling with the usability of these tools due to drastic change and adaptability and limitation of activities that these tools can only perform. © 2023 ACM.

This study delves into the perception of homeowners in the Philippines regarding the utilization of Residential Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic systems (RSPVS), focusing on their intention to adopt this renewable energy technology. The research is driven by the advantageous conditions in the Philippines, including high irradiance levels, supportive solar PV policies, and decreasing system costs. Understanding prosumers' (producers and consumers) perspectives is crucial to accelerating the adoption of RSPVS, which can significantly contribute to decentralizing and greening the electrical production landscape in the country. Building on previous studies, which highlight a keen interest in solar technology among homeowners but cite high installation costs and a lack of understanding as major barriers, this research aims to shed light on the factors influencing prosumers' intentions to use RSPVS. Employing a theoretical framework combining the technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of technology (UTAUT), and integrating Technophilia and Perceived Risk as supplementary constructs, this study seeks to uncover the drivers and inhibitors of RSPVS adoption. The study employs an online questionnaire distributed in key cities where Residential RSPVS is available, with a sample size of 239 respondents. The data collected are analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine the relationships between variables and to test the hypothesized model. The results indicate that factors such as Technophilia, Price Value, and Social Influence are significant determinants of prosumers' intent to adopt RSPVS. Notably, Technophilia, reflecting enthusiasm for new technology, emerged as a key factor, suggesting that prosumers are motivated by the allure of solar energy. Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) indicates subclinical organ damage, associating with the incidence of cardiovascular diseases. From the medical perspective, electrocardiogram (ECG) is a low-cost, non-invasive, and easily reproducible tool that is often used as a preliminary diagnosis for the detection of heart disease. Nowadays, there are many criteria for assessing LVH by ECG. These criteria usually include that voltage combination of RS peaks in multi-lead ECG must be greater than one or more thresholds for diagnosis. We developed a system for detecting LVH using ECG signals by two steps: firstly, the R-peak and S-valley amplitudes of the 12-lead ECG were extracted to automatically obtain a total of 24 features and ECG beats of each case (LVH or non-LVH) were segmented; secondly, a back propagation neural network (BPN) was trained using a dataset with these features. Echocardiography (ECHO) was used as the gold standard for diagnosing LVH. The number of LVH cases (of a Taiwanese population) identified was 173. As each ECG sequence generally included 8 to 13 cycles (heartbeats) due to differences in heart rate, etc., we identified 1466 ECG cycles of LVH patients after beat segmentation. Results showed that our BPN model for detecting LVH reached the testing accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and specificity of 0.961, 0.958, 0.966 and 0.956, respectively. Detection performances of our BPN model, on the whole, outperform 7 methods using ECG criteria and many ECG-based artificial intelligence (AI) models reported previously for detecting LVH.

He attended Duke University graduating in May 1974 with a bachelor of science in zoology. He was commissioned in the Navy in May 1974 through the NROTC Program at Duke. Rear Adm. Hamilton's sea tours include electronics material officer and combat information center officer in USS Hawkins (DD 873) (1974 to 1976) fire control officer and missile officer in USS Coontz (DDG 40) (1976 to1978) operations officer in USS Callaghan (DDG 994) (1981 to 1984) executive officer USS Fox (CG 33) (1986 to 1988) and commanding officer USS O'Brien (DD 975) (1991 to 1993). Rear Adm. Hamilton's shore tours include anti-submarine warfare program analyst and administrative assistant to director Program Resource Appraisal Division (OP-91) Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (1984 to 1986) head Aegis Destroyer Section (OP-355F) and financial coordinator Aegis Cruiser Destroyer Branch Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (1988 to 1990) and military staff specialist for naval war-fare in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition and Technology) (1994 to 1996). In May 1996 Rear Adm. Hamilton became program manager for the arsenal ship which was designed to provide massed precision fires in support of Fleet commander's warfighting requirements. The challenges which stood as an obstacle to the naval force development are discussed. The main challenge in the national security environment is to be virtually available anywhere in the world at the behest of the national command. It is observed that in surface warefare coast guard has the most applicability and expansion of their surveillance area will help in engaging other vessels away from the manned platform. It is also observed that the relationship with mission modularity and the growth between the coast guard and the navy has attracted interest among the international community.

There is a very large demand for basic telephone service in developing nations, and remote parts of industrialized nations, which cannot be met by conventional wireline and cellular systems. This is the world's largest unserved market. We describe a system which uses recent advances in active phased arrays, fast-packet switching technology, adaptive routeing, and light spacecraft technology, in part based on the work of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and on recently-declassified work done on the Strategic Defense Initiative, to make it possible to address this market with a global telephone network based on a large low-Earth-orbit constellation of identical satellites. A telephone utility can use such a network to provide the same modern basic and enhanced telephone services offered by telephone utilities in the urban centres of fully-industrialized nations. Economies of scale permit capital and operating costs per subscriber low enough to provide a service to all subscribers, regardless of location, at prices comparable to the same services in urban areas of industrialized nations, while generating operating profits great enough to attract the capital needed for its construction. The bandwidth needed to support the capacity needed to gain these economies of scale requires that the system use K(alpha)-band frequencies. This choice of frequencies places unusual constraints on the network design, and in particular forces the use of a large number of satellites. Global demand for basic and enhanced telephone service is great enough to support at least three networks of the size described herein. The volume of advanced components, and services such as launch services, required to construct and replace these networks is sufficient to propel certain industries to market leadership positions in the early 21st Century.
