The problems of heating and acceleration of solar wind particles are of significant and enduring interest in astrophysics. The interactions between waves and particles are crucial in determining the distributions of proton and alpha particles, resulting in non-Maxwellian characteristics including temperature anisotropies and particle beams. These processes can be better understood as long as the beam can be separated from the core for the two major components of the solar wind. We utilized an alternative numerical approach that leverages the clustering technique employed in Machine learning to differentiate the primary populations within the velocity distribution, rather than employing the conventional bi-Maxwellian fitting method. Separation of the core and beam revealed new features for protons and alphas. We estimated that the total temperature of the two beams was slightly higher than that of their respective cores, and the temperature anisotropy for the cores and beams was larger than 1. We concluded that the temperature ratio between alphas and protons largely over 4 is due to the presence of a massive alpha beam, which is approximately 50% of the alpha core. We provided evidence that the alpha core and beam populations are sensitive to Alfvénic fluctuations and the surfing effect found in the literature can be recovered only when considering the core and beam as a single population. Several similarities between proton and alpha beams would suggest a common and local generation mechanism not shared with the alpha core, which may not have necessarily been accelerated and heated locally. In this paper, a mathematical model for assessing the impact of COVId-19 on tuberculosis disease is proposed and analysed. There are pieces of evidence that patients with Tuberculosis (TB) have more chances of developing the SARS-CoV-2 infection. The mathematical model is qualitatively and quantitatively analysed by using the theory of stability analysis. The dynamic system shows endemic equilibrium point which is stable when R₀<1 and unstable when R₀>1. The global stability of the endemic point is analysed by constructing the lyapunov function. The dynamic stability also exhibits bifurcation behaviour. The optimal control theory is used to find an optimal solution to the problem in the mathematical model. The sensitivity analysis is performed to clarify the effective parameters which affect the reproduction number the most. Numerical simulation is carried out to assess the effect of various biological parameters in the dynamic of both tuberculosis and COVId-19 classes. Our simulation results show that the COVId-19 and TB infections can be mitigated by controlling the transmission rate γ. © 2023 The Author(s)

Aims. The linear scaling of the mixed third-order moment of the magnetohydrodynamic fluctuations is used to estimate the energy transfer rate of the turbulent cascade in the expanding solar wind. Methods. In 1976 the Helios 2 spacecraft measured three samples of fast solar wind originating from the same coronal hole, at different distance from the sun. Along with the adjacent slow solar wind streams, these represent a unique database for studying the radial evolution of turbulence in samples of undisturbed solar wind. A set of direct numerical simulations of the MHd equations performed with the lattice-Boltzmann code FlAME is also used for interpretation. Results. We show that the turbulence energy transfer rate decays approximately as a power law of the distance, and that both the amplitude and decay law correspond to the observed radial temperature profile in the fast wind case. Results from magnetohydrodynamic numerical simulations of decaying magnetohydrodynamic turbulence show a similar trend for the total dissipation, suggesting an interpretation of the observed dynamics in terms of decaying turbulence, and that multi-spacecraft studies of the solar wind radial evolution may help clarifying the nature of the evolution of the turbulent fluctuations in the ecliptic solar wind. © 2023, CC BY.

In this study, composite membranes composed of polysulfone and polyaniline (PSF/PANi) were prepared via the phase inversion technique for the efficient removal of hazardous binary dye mixtures methylene blue (MB) and congo red (CR) (MB/CR) from aqueous solutions. The incorporation of PANi significantly enhanced the physicochemical properties of the PSF membranes. Notably, hydropholicity improved, as evidenced by a reduction in contact angle from 85.12° (pristine PSF) to 39.45°, alongside increased porosity and permeability. These enhancements contributed to superior dye separation performance. Moreover, the separation efficiency in the MB/CR binary dyes system was systematically optimized using the Box-Behnken design (BBd) in conjunction with response surface methodology (RSM), enabling the identification of optimal operational parameters for maximum dye rejection. Molecular modeling using the semi-empirical GFN2-xTB method further confirmed the enhanced adsorption performance of PSF membranes upon PANi incorporation. Calculations of frontier molecular orbitals and global reactivity descriptors such as chemical potential, global hardness, and electrophilicity-based charge transfer (ECT) indicated stronger interactions between the composite membrane and dye molecules. Additionally, analysis based on the Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules (QTAIM) revealed the presence of significant intermolecular interactions, including π–π stacking and hydrogen bonding. These findings demonstrate that PSF/PANi composite membranes represent a promising, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective solution for the efficient removal of organic pollutants from wastewater. © 2025 The Author(s)

This paper presents a procedure for the robust design of an SdC for a UPFC device for damping inter-area mode oscillations in the large power system. The controller is designed by pmbH∞ loop shaping technique using lMI. The controller is designed for modified New England test system which includes a UPFC. The input signals to the controller are obtained from PMUs located at an important buses of the test system. For deciding the best control signal as input to the controller, residue analysis was carried out. The minimum damping ratio (10%) is ensured with by adding pole placement objective in the controller design. The robustness of the UPFC WAdC is accessed via nonlinear time domain simulations for various contingency conditions like line fault, line outage, and load shedding. The performance of the UPFC W AdC is found satisfactory for such contingency conditions. © 2018 IEEE.

We report measurements of the absolute photoionization cross sections of magnesiumlike S4+ over the 158–280 eV photon energy range. The experiments were performed with the multianalysis ion apparatus at the SOlEIl synchrotron radiation facility. Single- and double-ionization ion yields produced by the photoionization of the 2p subshell of the S4+ both from the 2p63s21S0 ground state and the 2p53s3p3P0,1,2 metastable levels were observed, as well as 2s excitations. Theoretical calculations of the photoionization cross sections were carried out using multiconfiguration dirac-Fock and R-matrix computer codes and the results are compared with the experimental data. While in general reasonably good agreement was found, notable differences in the strengths and positions of predicted resonances were observed and significant systematic energy shifts of the theoretical predictions were required.

It is important to understand how the provision of information influences individuals’ behavior and its impact on disease transmission dynamics. We formulate a simple deterministic Susceptible–Infected–Recovered (SIR) model with vital dynamics and incorporate, one at a time, four media functions used in previous studies to mimic media reporting of a disease outbreak to investigate their impact on the dynamics of an epidemic. The most sensitive model parameter for the epidemic outcome at initial disease transmission and disease prevalence are obtained through normalized forward-sensitivity analyses. Media reporting does not impact initial disease transmission but affects the effective reproduction number as the media coverage begins. Numerical results show that the epidemic will affect a large proportion of the population with no media functions. Still, the epidemic time line may be short. In contrast, the key epidemiological quantities (such as age at infection, peak magnitude, peak time, end of the epidemic, and final epidemic size) vary depending on the media function used. The choice of the media function in a pandemic is critical. The media reporting on the spread of disease during pandemics should be done with care since it could counter-intuitively lead to under or overestimating the disease outbreak. © 2023 The Author(s)

Handheld devices are becoming increasingly common in today's world. With every passing year, the diversity of applications (apps) being supported by mobile platforms is growing manyfold. In addition, Android, the most popular handheld OS in the market is releasing a new version every year, with a newer and richer set of APIs, enabling the next generation of feature-rich applications. To support these apps, hardware requirements of these devices are increasing rapidly. Mobile SoCs need a larger number of faster cores, better GPUs and above all, higher dRAM capacities to do justice to user experience. To augment capacity requirements, non-volatile memories (NVMs) have been proposed as a potential addition to lPddR variants, which have been the mainstay of mobile SoCs. However, few tools exist to carry out architectural design space exploration of main memory hierarchies featuring NVMs for newer Android and app versions. In this paper, we present META, a trace based tool for facilitating the exploration of memory hierarchies in mobile devices. META uses an enhanced version of Android emulator for generating raw instruction traces. These traces are then fed into a cache hierarchy and memory simulation modules to carry out design space exploration for a wide variety of apps and memory technologies. © 2018 Association for Computing Machinery.

Semantic segmentation of large-scale outdoor point clouds is essential for urban scene understanding in various applications, especially autonomous driving and urban high-definition (Hd) mapping. With rapid developments of mobile laser scanning (MlS) systems, massive point clouds are available for scene understanding, but publicly accessible large-scale labeled datasets, which are essential for developing learning-based methods, are still limited. This paper introduces Toronto-3d, a large-scale urban outdoor point cloud dataset acquired by a MlS system in Toronto, Canada for semantic segmentation. This dataset covers approximately 1 km of point clouds and consists of about 78.3 million points with 8 labeled object classes. Baseline experiments for semantic segmentation were conducted and the results confirmed the capability of this dataset to train deep learning models effectively. Toronto-3d is released 1 to encourage new research, and the labels will be improved and updated with feedback from the research community. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Gallium nitride (GaN) has some challenges for gas sensing, such as high detection lower limit (lOd) or controlling the epitaxy of nanostructures. To address these issues, we exclusively designed a device to enhance the gas interaction capabilities of GaN quantum dots (Qds) film fabricated by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVd). The GaN Qds film gas sensor exhibited a low lOd (5 ppb) to NO2 at room temperature (RT), which has much superior gas performance than other GaN-based sensors. The results manifest that many ultra-small Qds around 2 nm in diameter are stacked to form Qds of larger size, and confirm the existence of vacancies. The sensor displays a ultra-high electron mobility of 1237.37 cm2 V−1s−1, demonstrate that great shallow donor impurities in GaN Qds film that ionize easily at RT, which is greatly beneficial for gas sensing. The sensing mechanisms were analyzed based on its abundant active sites, ultrahigh carrier mobility, high surface energy and chemical activity, grain boundary barrier and good electrical conductivity. Moreover, the sensor processes high selectivity, repeatability, stability and reusability based on MOCVd technology which can realize precise control of structure, morphology and surface energy level, which is expected to achieve rapid industrialization. © 2022, The Authors.
