Plasma, the fourth and most pervasive state of matter in the visible universe, is a fascinating medium that is connected to the beginning of our universe itself. Man-made plasmas are at the core of many technological advances that include the fabrication of semiconductor devices, which enabled the modern computer and communication revolutions. The introduction of low temperature, atmospheric pressure plasmas to the biomedical field has ushered a new revolution in the healthcare arena that promises to introduce plasma-based therapies to combat some thorny and long-standing medical challenges. This paper presents an overview of where research is at today and discusses innovative concepts and approaches to overcome present challenges and take the field to the next level. It is written by a team of experts who took an in-depth look at the various biomedical applications, made critical analysis, and proposed ideas and concepts that should help the research community focus their efforts on clear and practical steps necessary to keep the field advancing for decades to come. © 2021, CC BY.

The general position problem in graph theory asks for the largest set S of vertices of a graph G such that no shortest path of G contains more than two vertices of S. In this paper we consider a variant of the general position problem called the monophonic position problem, obtained by replacing 'shortest path' by 'induced path'. We prove some basic properties and bounds for the monophonic position number of a graph and determine the monophonic position number of some graph families, including unicyclic graphs, complements of bipartite graphs and split graphs. We show that the monophonic position number of triangle-free graphs is bounded above by the independence number. We present realisation results for the general position number, monophonic position number and monophonic hull number. The effect of surfactants on the tail and film dynamics of elongated gas bubbles propagating through circular capillary tubes is investigated by means of an extensive three-dimensional numerical study using a hybrid front-tracking/level-set method. The focus is on the visco-inertial regime, which occurs when the Reynolds number of the flow is much larger than unity. Under these conditions, “clean” bubbles exhibit interface undulations in the proximity of the tail, with an amplitude that increases with the Reynolds number. We perform a systematic analysis of the impact of a wide range of surfactant properties, including elasticity, bulk surfactant concentration, solubility, and diffusivity, on the bubble and flow dynamics in the presence of inertial effects. The results show that the introduction of surfactants is effective in suppressing the tail undulations as they tend to accumulate near the bubble tail. Here large Marangoni stresses are generated, which lead to a local “rigidification” of the bubble. This effect becomes more pronounced for larger surfactant elasticities and adsorption depths. At reduced surfactant solubility, a thicker rigid film region forms at the bubble rear, where a Couette film flow is established, while undulations still appear at the trailing edge of the downstream “clean” film region. In such conditions, the bubble length becomes an influential parameter, with short bubbles becoming completely rigid.

Radiofrequency-driven resonant spin rotators are routinely used as standard instruments in polarization experiments in particle and nuclear physics. Maintaining the continuous exact parametric spin-resonance condition of the equality of the spin rotator and the spin precession frequency during operation constitutes one of the challenges. We present a detailed analytic description of the impact of detuning the exact spin resonance on the vertical and the in-plane precessing components of the polarization. An important part of the formalism presented here is the consideration of experimentally relevant spin-decoherence effects. We discuss applications of the developed formalism to the interpretation of the experimental data on the novel pilot bunch approach to control the spin-resonance condition during the operation of the radiofrequency-driven Wien filter that is used as a spin rotator in the first direct deuteron electric dipole moment measurement at COSY. We emphasize the potential importance of the hitherto unexplored phase of the envelope of the horizontal polarization as an indicator of the stability of the radiofrequency-driven spin rotations in storage rings. The work presented here serves as a satellite publication to the work published concurrently on the proof of principle experiment about the so-called pilot bunch approach that was developed to provide co-magnetometry for the deuteron electric dipole moment experiment at COSY. © 2023, CC BY.

We gained some exact solutions of the (2+1)- and (3+1)-dimensional constant coefficients KdV equations by using extended exp(−φ(ξ))-expansion method. These solutions we gained are hyperbolic, trigonometric, exponential and rational solutions. In addition, we provided both two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphics of the solutions we found in −10≤x≤10 and −1≤x≤1 intervals. Then, we observed, via Mathematica 11.2, that the solutions prove the equations. This method has been used for obtaining exact travelling wave solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations (NlPdEs). © 2022

In polarization experiments at storage rings, one of the challenges is to maintain the spin-resonance condition of a radio-frequency spin rotator with the spin-precessions of the orbiting particles. Time-dependent variations of the magnetic fields of ring elements lead to unwanted variations of the spin precession frequency. We report here on a solution to this problem by shielding (or masking) one of the bunches stored in the ring from the high-frequency fields of the spin rotator, so that the masked pilot bunch acts as a co-magnetometer for the other signal bunch, tracking fluctuations in the ring on a time scale of about one second. While the new method was developed primarily for searches of electric dipole moments of charged particles, it may have far-reaching implications for future spin physics facilities, such as the EIC and NICA. © 2023, CC BY.

The unforeseen pandemic of COVId-19 forced all countries worldwide to appreciate digital solutions and their potential contributions in managing such outbreaks. Countries began to share their knowledge and ongoing experiences on how to employ the latest technologies to trace infected cases, warn people on potential danger, increase social and population awareness, and how to provide effective and efficient telehealth services. MENAHIA (The Middle East and North Africa Health Informatics Association), established in 2018, as a new IMIA regional chapter which has started regional work in several areas of collaboration and knowledge sharing, particularly focused on the common basis of MENA countries’ needs towards health informatics solutions regarding COVId-19 crisis management. This article briefly presents health informatics activities and prospects by countries of the Region with a non-exclusive focus on the COVId-19 pandemic. Feedback graph convolutional network for skeleton-based action recognition

Skeleton-based action recognition has attracted considerable attention in computer vision since skeleton data is more robust to the dynamic circumstance and complicated background than other modalities. Recently, many researchers have used the Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) to model spatial-temporal features of skeleton sequences by an end-to-end optimization. However, conventional GCNs are feedforward networks which are impossible for low-level layers to access semantic information in the high-level layers. In this paper, we propose a novel network, named Feedback Graph Convolutional Network (FGCN). This is the first work that introduces the feedback mechanism into GCNs and action recognition. Compared with conventional GCNs, FGCN has the following advantages: (1) a multi-stage temporal sampling strategy is designed to extract spatial-temporal features for action recognition in a coarse-to-fine progressive process;(2) A dense connections based Feedback Graph Convolutional Block (FGCB) is proposed to introduce feedback connections into the GCNs. It transmits the high-level semantic features to the low-level layers and flows temporal information stage by stage to progressively model global spatial-temporal features for action recognition;(3) The FGCN model provides early predictions. In the early stages, the model receives partial information about actions. Naturally, its predictions are relatively coarse. The coarse predictions are treated as the prior to guide the feature learning of later stages for a accurate prediction. Extensive experiments on the datasets, NTU-RGB+d, NTU-RGB+d120 and Northwestern-UClA, demonstrate that the proposed FGCN is effective for action recognition. Skyrmions in chiral magnetic materials are topologically stable and energetically balanced spin configurations appearing under the presence of ferromagnetic interaction (FMI) and dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (dMI). Much of the current interest has focused on the effects of magnetoelastic coupling on these interactions under mechanical stimuli, such as uniaxial stresses for future applications in spintronics devices. Recent studies suggest that skyrmion shape deformations in thin films are attributed to an anisotropy in the coefficient of dMI, such that dx≠dy, which makes the ratio λ/d anistropic, where the coefficient of FMI λ is isotropic. It is also possible that λx≠λy while d is isotropic for λ/d to be anisotropic. In this paper, we study this problem using a modeling technique constructed based on Finsler geometry (FG). Two possible FG models are examined: In the first (second) model, the FG modeling prescription is applied to the FMI (dMI) Hamiltonian. We find that these two different FG models' results are consistent with the reported experimental data for skyrmion deformation. We also study responses of helical spin orders under lattice deformations corresponding to uniaxial extension/compression and find a clear difference between these two models in the stripe phase, elucidating which interaction of FMI and dMI is deformed to be anisotropic by uniaxial stresses.
